Abstract

Abstract

Social anxiety can occur online when individuals use social media. Several factors that are thought to influence social anxiety using social media are self-esteem and demographic factors such as age, gender, and duration of social media use. The aim of this research is to measure empirically whether these variables are determinants of social anxiety using social media. The participants of this research are 164 active social media users who live in the Jakarta Greater Area. The social anxiety scale for social media users and the self-esteem scale are used as research instruments. The data analysis technique used is regression to measure the role of self-esteem on social anxiety using social media. Meanwhile, correlation tests and difference tests were carried out to determine the position of demographic variables in relation to social anxiety using social media. The research results show that age has a significant negative correlation, while the duration of social media use has a significant positive correlation with social anxiety using social media. On the other hand, self-esteem is proven to have an influence on all aspects of social anxiety using social media. The strongest effect appears on interaction anxiety, and the weakest effect appears on privacy content anxiety. The research results also showed that female participants had higher social anxiety using social media than male participants.

Abstract

Sexting is sexual behavior related to the use of communication technology. Anxiety attachment is a determining factor because it influences emotion-based social relations regarding sexuality. Therefore, a meta-analysis needs to be conducted to confirm this. The aim of this study was to measure the strength of the correlation between anxiety attachment and sexting by considering the effect size. This meta-analysis involved 36 studies with a total of 17,568 participants. The findings showed a weak correlation between anxious attachment and sexting (r = 0.113; z = 4.816, p < .01; 95% CI [0.06; 0.17]). This same correlation pattern was observed when the assessment was conducted among the general and married people group (r = 0.125; z = 2.757, p < .01; 95% CI [0.04; 0.21]), and the high school and college student group based on their educational level (r = 0.107; z = 4.086, p < .01; 95% CI [0.06; 0.16]). For these three groups, the heterogeneity test showed significant results, indicating a symmetrical distribution of scores based on the results of the funnel test and Egger’s test. The findings also showed no publication bias. In other words, this meta-analysis proves that anxiety attachment is a determining factor but not a strong antecedent of sexting.

Abstract

Aggression behavior in parents needs to be considered to avoid violence in children, one of which affects aggression behavior is emotional maturity in parents. This study aims to examine whether emotional maturity influences parents' aggressive behavior when accompanying children during PJJ. Respondents in this study were 113 parents who accompanied children aged 5-8 years, parents aged at least 20 years, and located in JABODETABEK. This study used the aggression behavior scale from Buss and Perry (1992) and the emotional maturity scale from Singh and Barghava (1990), both of which were modified by the researcher. This study uses the linear regression method to test the influence between emotional maturity and aggression behavior. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence between emotional maturity and aggression behavior in parents when accompanying children during PJJ with the results of R2 = 0.422 and contributed an influence of 42.3%. This means that showing the emotional maturity of individuals will affect aggressive behavior.

Abstract

One result of the COVID-19 pandemic for the wider community, especially employees, is the need to carry out physical distancing in the form of work from home. This phenomenon certainly has consequences on the quality of life felt by employees. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the quality of life of employees who work from home is influenced by variables such as type D personality, anxiety, technology overload, and work-life balance. Participants in this study were 486 employees living in Jakarta Greater Area who worked from home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were recruited by purposive sampling using online questionnaire. Measurements were made using a measuring tool from each variable using a quantitative approach. Hierarchical regression is used as a data analysis technique. The findings of this research show that all independent variables have an influence on quality of life. However, anxiety has the smallest influence and type D personality has the greatest effect. Meanwhile, like work-life balance, technology overload has positive effect on quality of life. That is, internal and external factors can have different effects on the quality of life felt by employees who work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Instagram addiction is a social phenomenon among teenagers that has been little studied. This study aims to empirically examine the effect of type D personality (social disinhibition and negative affectivity), self-esteem, and fear of missing out (FoMO) on Instagram addiction among adolescents. A total of 259 participants living in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia, with type D personalities with mild to severe addiction were identified through screening results (based on total score). Snowball sampling and regression were used to collect and process the data. The results of the analysis show that together, all the independent variables have an effect of 56.9% (p<.01) on Instagram addiction. Partially, only negative affectivity (a type D personality factor) does not affect Instagram addiction (β=0.078, p>.05), which means that such addiction is strongly influenced by a combination of external and internal factors. The study illustrates that individuals who have difficulty building social relationships in the real world due to negative self-esteem try to connect with others through social media such as Instagram.

Abstract

Abstract

The observation of the progress made in studying “fear of missing out” is interesting, specifically with a focus on analyzing the possible existence of a strong correlation between the concept and the antecedents widely involved in most of these studies such as neuroticism. This meta-analysis was conducted to measure the correlation between neuroticism and fear of missing out by considering the size of the effect. The process involved using 13,685 participants from 23 eligible studies as samples. The results showed that neuroticism was positively correlated to fear of missing out at a moderate strength as indicated by r = .369 and 95% CI (.29, .44). Similar results were also found for adolescents and emerging adulthood groups (95% CI [.272, .460]) as well as the common group and workers (95% CI [.249, .488]). Moreover, the heterogeneity test showed good significance, the distribution of scores was considered symmetrical except in adolescents and emerging adulthood, and no publication bias was detected. The moderate level of correlation reported showed the possibility of involving neuroticism as an antecedent of fear of missing out. However, the effect could become stronger when it was involved with other external antecedents.
