Abstract

In the recently, students have to understand multimodal text become understanding so, probing into students' PowerPoint Slides can impact an overview of the students' multimodal literacy. To add to this body of research, the present study attempts to analyze the implementation and logical meaning of six senior high school students' PPT slides, which explain natural and social phenomena. Through the qualitative design, students' PPT focusing on the students' slides capturing the images and texts were collected. These data were analyzed using the concept of the representational meanings of images proposed by Kress & van Leeuwen, the representational meaning of text proposed by Halliday, and the logical meanings of images and text comprising status and logico-semantic relation suggested by Martinec & Salway, which are under the Approach of Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis (SF-MDA). The analysis reveals that experientially the Actional processes and the Relational Process are dominantly used in Students' PPT, and logically the complementary relation and logico-semantic of exemplification with Text more general are the most frequent logical meaning realized in Students PPT. The results offer a practical implication and suggestion for further research. The practical implication is that multimodal learning is necessary to emerge in the language instructions for scaffolding the learners' multimodal literacy. Besides, further research is recommended to investigate different and foci of analysis to develop Multimodal Discourse Analysis

Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their writing ability in narrative texts at the tenth grade of Vocational Senior High School 8 Kota Serang. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 35 students selected through simple random sampling. Two instruments were used: a vocabulary test and a writing test focusing on narrative composition. The validity and reliability of both instruments were confirmed through Pearson Product–Moment and Cronbach’s Alpha analyses. Descriptive statistics showed that the mean score of vocabulary mastery was 75.60 and writing ability was 74.20, both categorized as good. The Pearson correlation analysis revealed a strong and significant positive relationship between vocabulary mastery and writing ability (r = 0.713, p < 0.05), with vocabulary contributing 50.8% to the variance in writing performance. These results support cognitive–constructivist theories proposed by Piaget and Vygotsky, emphasizing that vocabulary development and writing competence evolve through active learning and social interaction. The findings suggest that integrating contextualized vocabulary instruction into writing practice can effectively enhance students’ writing proficiency, especially in vocational education contexts.

Abstract

Menstruation is one of the changes experienced by adolescent girls. During this period, women often experience discomfort such as dysmenorrhea, which can affect physical health and daily activities. The incidence of dysmenorrhea remains high worldwide and in Indonesia, but it can be managed through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of conventional, complementary and diversion therapy in overcoming dysmenorrhea in adolescents. The study design was a retrospective cohort. The sample used was 35 using a purposive sampling technique at MTsN 1 Serang Regency in March-April 2025. Data analysis used in this study was the Wilcoxon Test and Kruskal-Wallis Test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between post-test results and pre-test in complementary therapy (p = 0.005) and diversion therapy (p = 0.007) with dysmenorrhea, while conventional therapy (p = 0.458) did not have a significant relationship with dysmenorrhea. Overall, the three therapies had a significant effect on dysmenorrhea (p <0.001). The post-test results of the three therapies were analyzed and found that there was no significant relationship with dysmenorrhea (p = 0.812). This indicates that complementary and diversional therapies have comparable effectiveness in reducing dysmenorrhea pain. It is hoped that medical personnel and adolescents can begin to consider integration strategies to treat dysmenorrhea pain.
