Abstract

This study attempts to critically explore the representation of witches in two genres of text, i.e. popular animated movie Spirited Away and a historical essay published on history.com. Critical Discourse Analysis and Critical-feminist Approach to Marx’s ‘primitive accumulation’ are incorporated as the guiding framework in the data analysis process. Findings showcase that the representation of witches in animated movie highlights the criticism of capitalist disruption of Japanese gender roles as can be seen from the ambivalent characters of the movie’s main witch antagonist, Yubaba and her twin sister Zeniba. Furthermore, in the historical essay, findings portray that witches’ representation in historical article does not guarantee that they are free from marginalizing and stereotypical accusation. Even though the highlight is on the severe state-sponsored punishment and disciplining toward women’s body during the great witch hunt, the actors exerting power are made invisible, resulting in the perpetuation of unjust power balance within the society. Keywords: critical discourse analysis, critical feminist perspective, Marx’s primitive accumulation, witches’ representation

Abstract

Abstract

The integration of language and literary skills within vocational education often presents a pedagogical challenge, particularly in technical majors where curriculum emphasis leans heavily toward practical, non-literary subjects. This study addresses the need for an effective, engaging instructional approach to foster poetry reading and recitation competence among students in a vocational setting. The research was conducted by combining two instructional models—namely, Discovery Learning and Problem-Based Learning—to create the resulting Process Development learning model. The research subjects were 26 students from the 10th-grade TKJ (Computer and Network Engineering) class at SMK Informatika Pesat Bogor. This study employed Research and Development (R&D), utilizing a qualitative research methodology. The research instruments included observation and interviews. The findings indicate that the developed Process Development learning model for poetry reading skills is quite good and is effective in motivating and engaging students during the language development process. The feasibility of the Process Development learning model shows that it is appropriate for use in increasing students' self-confidence to actively explore concepts related to poetry reading skills

Abstract

Abstract: Stunting prevention is crucial for realizing Golden Indonesia 2045. By addressing stunting, we improve human capital, boost productivity, and ensure sustainable development, paving the way for a prosperous and globally competitive Indonesia in 2045. This research investigates women’s beliefs about weaning foods as a means of preventing stunting, as well as the actions to take to avoid it. In addition, some challenges in preventing stunting were also investigated. Under a descriptive qualitative study design, observations, interviews, and a questionnaire were administered to participants. The participants were mothers and pregnant women. The research took place at one of the care centers for prenatal and postnatal care in Bogor Regency, called Posyandu Mawar 03, Dukuh Village. Once the data were collected, they were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings showed that participants had some misunderstandings about weaning food and that training could help close the gap in understanding. It is also found that the training itself has some drawbacks and challenges. Keywords: care center for pre- and postnatal, stunting, training, weaning food (MPASI)
