Abstract

ABSTRAK                                                                        Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas nira aren sebagai pengencer alternatif dalam proses pembekuan (kriopreservasi) semen kambing boer.Kriopreservasi semen kambing boer menggunakan pengencer tris-gliserol-kuning telur (P1 73-7-20%), nira aren-gliseol-kuning telur(masing-masing P2 74-6-20%, P3 73-7-20%, dan P4 72-8-20%) dan andromed (P5 tanpa mengandung kuning telur dan gliserol). Parameter evaluasi meliputi motilitas, viabilitas, dan membrane plasma utuh setelah pengenceran, ekuilibrasi dan thawing.  Evaluasi motilitas pasca thawing menunjukkan P5 52% berbeda nyata (P<0.05) dengan P1 42%, selanjutnya P5 dan P1 berbeda sangat nyata (P<0.05) dengan P2 8%, P3 6% dan P4 12%.  Viabilitas pasca thawing menunjukkan P5 65,4% tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) dengan P1 61,8%, akan tetapi P5 dan P1 berbeda sangat nyata (P<0.05) dengan P2 26,2%, P3 29,8%, dan P4 34%.  Membran plasma utuh (MPU) pasca thawing menunjukkan P5 66,2% tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) dengan P1 65,4%, akan tetapi keduanya berbeda sangat nyata (P<0.05) dengan P2 39%, P3 38%, dan P4 36,2%.  Disimpulkan kriopreservasi semen kambing boer dengan pengencer nira aren dan gliserol pada konsentrasi berbeda belum dapat dipergunakan sebagai sumber bibit berdasarkan standar nasional Indonesia.Kata Kunci : Kambing boer, semen, nira arenABSTRACTThe experiment was conducted to determine the effect of sugar palm juice as alternative extender for cryopreservation process of boer semen.Tris-glycerol-egg yolk (P1 73-7-20%), Sugar palm juice-glyserol-egg yolk (P2 74-6-20%, P373-7-20%, dan P4 72-8-20%), and andromed (P5) used as a extender  in the cryopreservation process of boer semen.  Sperm motility (%), live sperm (%) and sperm membrane integrity (%) were recorded after diluted, equilibration and freeze-thawing.  Result of post thawing motility showed that P5 52% was significantly different (P <0.05) with P1 42%, then P5 and P1 were significantly different (P <0.05) with P2 8%, P3 6% and P4 12%. Viability after thawing showed P5 65.4% was not significantly different (P> 0.05) with P1 61.8%, but P5 and P1 significantly different (P <0.05) with P2 26.2%, P3 29.8 %, and P4 34%. Spermmembrane integrity post-thawing showed P5 66.2% was not significantly different (P> 0.05) with P1 65.4%, but both were very significantly different (P <0.05) with P2 39%, P3 38% and P4 36.2%. Conclusions, sugar palm juice-glycerol-egg yolk with differentconcentrationsineffectively as an alternative extenderin cryopreservation of boer semen.Keywords: boer goat, semen, sugar palm juice

Abstract

Sugar palm juice (Arenga pinnata Merr.) can be used as semen extender because its various nutrientscontent which were needed for spermatozoa preservation. The objective of this research was to examineeffectivity of sugar palm juice as swamp buffalo semen extender in artificial insemination (AI) program.Semen of swamp buffalo were collected by using an artificial vagina. Fresh semen were evaluated anddivided in equal volume into four tubes and diluted with lactose extender containing 20% egg yolk (lactoseor control), 85% sugar palm juice + 15% egg yolk (PJEY15), 80% sugar palm juice + 20% egg yolk (PJEY20),and 75% sugar palm juice + 25% egg yolk (PJEY25), respectively. Diluted-semen were preserved inrefrigerator at 5oC, and quality of spermatozoa including percentages of motile spermatozoa, livespermatozoa, and intact plasma membrane (IPM) were evaluated every day for four days. A total of 13female swamp buffaloes were estrous synchronize with PGF2a, and six buffaloes were inseminated withlactose and seven buffaloes were inseminated with PJEY20. Results of this research showed that at dayfourpreservation, mean percentages of motile and live spermatozoa for lactose (36.67 and 51.83%) andPJEY20 (35.83 and 51.5%) were significantly (P<0.05) higher than PJEY15 (31.67 and 44%) and PJEY25 (30 and 45.33%), but no difference significant between treatment for IPM parameter. Pregnancy rate forlactose was 66.67% and 71.43% for PJEY20. Percentage of birth for lactose and PJEY20 were 66.67% and71.43%, respectively. In conclusion, sugar palm juice could be used as an alternative extender in semenpreservation process and AI of swamp buffalo.

Abstract

Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a molecular structure that binds to heavy metals andother toxins which needed to protect the spermatozoa during the cryopreservation process. The objectiveof this research was to examine EDTA in maintain the quality of garut ram frozen semen. Semen werecollected from mature Garut ram by artificial vagina. Fresh semen were evaluated and divided in equalvolume into three tubes and diluted with Tris extender containing 20% egg yolk (TEY-20) as control, TEY-20 + 0.01% EDTA (EDTA0.01), and TEY-20 + 0.02% EDTA (EDTA0.02), respectively. Semen was loaded in 0.25 mL mini straw with the concentration of 100 million motile spermatozoa. Semen was equilibrated at5oC for three hours, then frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen container. Quality of spermatozoa includingpercentages of motile spermatozoa (MS), live spermatozoa (LS), and intact plasma membrane (IPM) wereevaluated after diluting, equilibrating, and thawing. Data were analyzed using completely randomizeddesign with three treatments and five replicates. Means were compared significant difference test at 0.05significant level. Results of this research showed that mean volume, color, consistency, pH, mass movement,spermatozoa concentration, percentage of MS, percentage of LS, percentage of abnormal spermatozoa,and percentage of IPM of garut ram fresh semen were 0.87 mL, cream, thick, 6.98, 3, 4,296 million cell/mL,75%, 86.33%, 4.4%, and 85%, respectively. Percentages of MS, LS, and IPM after thawing in control (42.5,52.5, and 52.17%) was not significantly difference with EDTA0.01 (44.17, 52.5, and 52.5%) and EDTA0.02(39.17%, 51%, and 48.33%). In conclusion, the addition of EDTA in Tris extender can maintain quality ofGarut ram frozen semen, and its suitable using in artificial insemination program. Addition of EDTA cannot enhancing quality of garut ram frozen semen.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas telur ayam ras yang beredar di pasar tradisional diKecamatan Liang Anggang Kota Banjarbaru. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel telur dari 15pedagang dan 1 peternakan sebagai kontrol. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 120 butir. Parameteryang diamati yaitu berat telur, indeks bentuk telur, berat kerabang, tebal kerabang, indeks putih telurdan haugh unit. Pelaksanaan pengujian kualitas dilakukan di Laboratorium Ilmu Nutrisi dan MakananTernak Program Studi Peternakan Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. Pengukuran sampelmenggunakan alat timbangan pocket, jangka sorong digital, mikrometer digital, height and depthgaugh digital, kaca persegi, egg tray dan spidol. Hasil analisis data didapati kualitas berat telur 64,159± 6,235 g, indeks bentuk telur (IBT) 77,390 ± 3,160 %, tebal kerabang 0,373 ± 0,023 mm, beratkerabang 6,220 ± 0,632 g, nilai indeks putih telur (IPT)0,086 ± 0,021 dan nilai haugh unit (HU) 56,600± 3,620 dan data yang didapat di peternakan berat telur 72,740 ± 3,831 g, indeks bentuk telur (IBT)76,930 ± 3,810 %, berat kerabang 7,030 ± 0,192 g, tebal kerabang 0,450 ± 0,024 mm, nilai indeks putihtelur (IPT) 0,135 ± 0,038 dan nilai haugh unit (HU) 72,240 ± 2,352. Data kualitas telur hasilperhitungan dianalisis secara deskriptif yaitu dengan cara mentabulasi data primerdan data sekunderyang telah dikumpulkan. Acuan dalam membandingkan hasil berdasarkan Standar Nasional Indonesia(SNI) 01-3926-2008 dan USDA tahun 2000.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of banana peels as energy source in thediet on the performance of king duck, those were feed intake, body weight gain, final bodyweight, feed conversio, and Income Over Feed and Duck Cost (IOFDC). Research method inthis study was completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications.Each replication consisted of three ducks, thus ducks used in this study was 60 head. Treatmentsin this experiment were KP0 (Without starchy banana skin (control) in the ration, KP1 = feedcontaining 12% flour banana peel in the ration, KP2 = feed containing 24% flour banana peelin the ration, and KP3 = feed containing 36% flour banana peel in the ration. The use ofbanana peels flour in treatment KP1 was effective as indicated by feed consumption, bodyweight gain, liveweight, and feed conversion. However, the highest weight gain and liveweightwere obtained from control treatment, that were 758.67 and 1106.67 g / head, respectively.

Abstract

The use of papaya leaf in order to improve the performance of poultry in general it is possible,it is because the enzyme papain which works to increase appetite in the presence of polyphenolsthat give a distinctive taste, in addition to the enzyme papain also helps the absorption ofnutrients, amino acids settings, optimize work colon and remove toxins the body, so the immunesystem can be improved and the performance can be improved chicken anyway. Application ofpapaya leaf powder in broiler rations as a producer of meat has not been known. Broilerchickens which have experienced a lot of genetic modification, so as to take advantage of feedto produce meat in a relatively short time. In this study, researchers wanted to see how far theeffect of papaya leaf meal in broiler ration Cobb strain on feed consumption, body weight gain,feed conversion and weight gain end. This research method using a completely randomizeddesign (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications which consists of 4 hens each replication,thus cobb broiler strains used as many as 80 tails. This research is the treatment rate ofaddition of papaya leaf meal in the ration consisting of: without the addition of papaya leaf powder (control, P0), the addition of 1.5% papaya leaf powder (P1), 3% (P2), 4,5% (P3), 6%(P4). Results of this study indicate that the addition of papaya leaf meal rations did notsignificantly affect feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion and weight gain end. But the bestindividual treatment groups to improve the performance of broiler chickens is at P1 treatmentby 1.5% due to increased feed intake, weight gain and final body weight, and can lower feedconversion, although not statistically significant.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the physiological responses of FH crossbred dairy cows kept in acontrolled microclimate barn in a tropical lowland area. Eight (8) FH crossbred cows were subjectedto two (2) treatments with 42 repetitions each, which were housed in a controlled microclimate barn.The FH crossbred cows were housed without any cooling equipment, such as sprinklers and fans (a),and then with cooling equipment, including sprinklers and fans (b), each for one (1) week. Theobserved parameters were barn temperature, body temperature, and respiratory rate in the morning(06.00), afternoon (13.00), and evening (17.00). The data were analyzed using a statistical sample Ttest with the help of SPSS. The results of the data analysis showed that the barn temperature intreatments (a) and (b) in the morning was 26±0.81 and 25.25±0.95oC, respectively, and there was nosignificant difference statistically (P>0.05). However, the barn temperature in the afternoon fortreatments (a) and (b) was (33.5±0.57 and 30.25±1.70oC), respectively, and there was a significantdifference statistically (P<0.05). Similarly, the barn temperature in the evening for treatments (a) and(b) was (32±0.81 and 29.25±1.5 oC), respectively, and there was a significant difference statistically(P<0.05). Regarding the physiological responses of FH crossbred cows, the body temperature in themorning for treatments (a) and (b) was (37.66±0.45 and 37.21±0.47oC), respectively. The bodytemperature in the afternoon was (38.15±0.50 and 37.39±0.73oC), respectively, and in the eveningwas (38.07±0.48 and 37.43±0.45oC), respectively. There was a significant difference statistically (P<0.05) in all three time periods. As for the respiratory rate, in the morning, there was no significantdifference statistically (P>0.05) between treatments (a) and (b), with rates of (33.71±5.82 and33.28±7.78 breaths/minute), respectively. However, in the afternoon, the respiratory rate fortreatments (a) and (b) was (57.96±13.31 and 43.75±14.07 breaths/minute), respectively, and in theevening, it was (50.89±9.30 and 42.82±8.39), respectively. There was a significant differencestatistically (P<0.05) for both afternoon and evening periods. Based on the research results, it can beconcluded that the controlled microclimate barn conditions have an impact on the physiologicalresponses of FH crossbred cows in the tropical lowland area.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the length of the shelf life of Alabio duck eggs after soakingwuluh starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). and determine the effect of soaking Alabio duckeggs using wuluh starfruit leaves on the quality of Alabio duck eggs. This research methoduses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replicates, eachreplicate consisting of 12 Alabio duck eggs. The treatments in this study were P0 = control orwithout soaking, P1 = soaking eggs for 12 hours using 50% star fruit leaf powder solution, P2= soaking eggs for 18 hours using 50% star fruit leaf powder solution, P3 = soaking eggs for12 hours using 505% star fruit leaf powder solution. After soaking, the eggs were allowed tostand at room temperature and measurements were taken on days 0, 7, 14, and 21 of storage.Data were analyzed with Anova and DMRT. The results showed that soaking Alabio duckeggs using a solution of star fruit leaf powder with a concentration of 50% had an effect onthe quality of Albumen Index, Egg Yolk Index and Haugh Unit (HU) values. Soaking Alabioduck eggs using wuluh star fruit leaf powder solution can maintain the internal quality valueof Alabio duck eggs and soaking for 24 hours is best.

Abstract

The aims of this study was to determine the quality of Etawah crossbreed (PE) spermatozoadiluted with a combination of tris diluent and various types of egg yolks. The researchmethod employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and sixreplications, consisting of (P1) 80% tris aminomethane + 20% commercial chicken egg yolk(KTR), (P2) 80% tris aminomethane + 20% local chicken egg yolk (KTK),and (P3) 80% trisaminomethane + 20% quail egg yolk (KTP). The observed daily qualities of PE spermatozoaincluded motility and viability until the motility reached 40%. The results showed that themotility of PE spermatozoa on day 4, P3 (40.00%) was significantly higher (P<0,05) than P1(25,83) and P2 (30,00). The viability of PE spermatozoa showed P3 (45.47%) wassignificantly higher (P<0,05) than P1 (34,65) and P2 (39,93). In conclusion that combinationof tris diluent and various types of egg yolks could maintain the quality of PE spermatozoa onday 3 above 40%, in accordance with the minimum motility requirments for spermatozoa asin SNI 486.3:2014, which is a minimum of 40%, suitable for use in artificial inseminationVol. 3 No. 1, Januari 2024 ISSN: 2442-7012Jurnal Penelitian Peternakan Lahan Basah 19programs. Abstract

ABSTRAKPeningkatan mutu genetik ternak dapat dilihat dari aspek reproduksi yaitu hubungan antara usia, berat badan, karakteristik testis, dan ukuran tubuh. Beberapa penelitian menemukan adanya hubungan dekat antara pertumbuhan testis (melalui lingkar skrotum) dan bobot badan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui keeratan korelasi bobot badan dengan kualitas semen pada kambing peranakan etawah (PE).  Sebanyak delapan ekor kambing PE jantan ditimbang menggunakan timbangan khusus dan semen dikoleksi dengan menggunakan vagina buatan untuk selanjutnya dievaluasi secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis.  Data pengukuran bobot badan dan hasil evaluasi semen disajikan dengan rerata dan standar deviasi.  Analisis data menggunakan koefisien korelasi. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa koefisien korelasi antara bobot badan dengan lingkar skrotum sebesar 0,34 serta, bobot badan dengan volume semen dan konsentrasi spermatozoa secara berturut-turut adalah -0,28, dan 0,33. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, bobot badan menjadi salah satu parameter dalam menentukan pejantan unggul pada kambing PE.Kata Kunci: Kambing PE, bobot badan, lingkar skrotum, kualitas semenRelationships of Body Weight with Scrotal Circumference and Semen Quality of Etawah CrossbreedABSTRACTImproving the genetic quality of bucks can be seen from the reproductive aspect, that is the relationship between age, body weight, testes characteristics, and body size. Several studies have found a close relationship between testicular growth and body weight. The experiment was conducted to determine the correlation between body weight with scrotal circumference and semen quality of etawah crossbreeds. A total of eight etawah crossbreed goat males measured body weight and semen collected with artificial vagina and evaluated of macroscopic and microscopic. Data of body weight measurement and semen evaluation results are presented with mean and standard deviation.  Data were analyzed by coefficient correlation analysis using SPSS software 16.0 version. The results indicated that correlation between body weight with scrotal circumference 0.34, with semen volume and concentration of spermatozoa, were -0.28 and 0.33 respectively. Based result of this study, body weight can be a parameter in determining superior males in the etawah crossbreed.Keywords: etawah crossbreed, body weight, scrotal circumference, semen quality
