Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between family support and body image disturbance among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. Breast cancer and its treatment, particularly chemotherapy, often cause physical changes such as hair loss, weight fluctuations, and mastectomy, which can significantly affect patients’ body image perception. Family support is assumed to play a crucial role in helping patients adapt to these changes. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 110 breast cancer patients were recruited using consecutive sampling. The research instruments consisted of a family support questionnaire comprising 20 items and a body image questionnaire with 10 items. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents (60%) received good family support, while 55% experienced negative body image. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between family support and body image disturbance (p = 0.004) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.275, indicating a weak but significant correlation. These findings suggest that family support plays an important role in maintaining a positive body image among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, nursing interventions should actively involve family members to provide both emotional and practical support, which may help patients cope with the psychological impact of treatment and improve their overall well-being.

Abstract

Nurses are healthcare workers who have a high workload because they are in direct contact with patients 24 hours a day. Complex tasks, limited manpower, and high service demands often cause work stress. Unresolved stress can affect nurses' health, reduce performance, and even impact patient safety. This study aims to investigate the relationship between stress levels and workloads among nurses at Semarang General Hospital. The study design employs a cross-sectional approach with a quantitative methodology. The study population consists of all nurses in the inpatient ward of Semarang General Hospital, with a sample size of 80 respondents selected using proportional random sampling. The research instruments used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) questionnaire to measure stress and the NASA-TLX questionnaire to measure workload. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test. The results of the study show that most nurses are in the moderate stress category (65%), while the highest workload is in the high category (58.8%). Bivariate analysis yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.412, indicating a significant positive relationship between stress levels and nurses' workload. The higher the workload of nurses, the higher the stress levels they experience. Hospitals are encouraged to implement effective workload management, including proportional task distribution, additional staff, and stress management programs for nurses.

Abstract

Preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an important issue because it can affect the psychological and physiological condition, as well as the postoperative recovery process. This study aims to describe the level of anxiety in preoperative laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital (RSI) Semarang. This research used a quantitative descriptive design with a population of all preoperative laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients and a total sample of 91 respondents, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire, which was then analyzed univariately to obtain the frequency distribution of anxiety levels. The results showed that most respondents were in the elderly group (41.8%), male (79.1%), employed (75.8%), and had no medical history (72.5%). The majority of respondents experienced moderate anxiety (73.6%), followed by mild anxiety (23.1%) and severe anxiety (3.3%). These findings indicate that most patients experience moderate anxiety before the surgical procedure. These results can serve as a basis for healthcare providers to deliver psychological interventions to reduce preoperative anxiety, such as providing adequate information, emotional support, and relaxation techniques to improve patient comfort and readiness for the medical procedure.

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability, resulting in a decline in the quality of life of its sufferers. In addition to physical impairments, stroke patients often experience anxiety, which can hinder the recovery process and lower overall quality of life. This study aims to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and the quality of life of stroke patients. The research design used a correlational descriptive approach with a cross-sectional method. The study population consisted of stroke patients receiving care or rehabilitation in healthcare facilities, with a total sampling technique for sampling. The research instruments included an anxiety questionnaire and a quality of life questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Somers’ d statistical test. The results showed that most stroke patients experienced moderate anxiety and had low quality of life. The Somers’ d test indicated a significant relationship between anxiety and the quality of life of stroke patients (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the higher the anxiety level, the lower the quality of life perceived by the patients. Therefore, healthcare providers are expected to not only focus on physical therapy but also provide psychological interventions to reduce anxiety, thus improving the quality of life of stroke patients.
