Abstract

ABSTRACT The role of insects beneficial or detrimental. One of the harmful insects that horn beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros L.). Horn beetle attack is one of the plants palm trees. Horn beetle attack oil plant on productive phase by way of gnawing and sucking fluids and eat the contents of the palm fruit. Horn beetle attack can cause cavities and palm fruit becomes damaged so as to result in a decrease in crop production . The purpose of this study was to determine the population density of horn beetle Oryctes rhinoceros L.  (Coleoptera :  Scarabaeidae) on palm trees in  the  District Surantih Kanagarian Silk South Coastal District. This study was conducted in September 2013 with a descriptive survey method is the direct collection of the existing horn beetle research sites. Sampling was done at night from 19:00 to 21:00 oclock pm with a random sampling technique to plant oil palm. Sampling is done directly by hand and then using tweezers tool samples that have been obtained in the field is inserted into the bottle collection that already contains alcohol and taken  to  the  laboratory  for  identification  Andalas  University.  Based  on  the  results,  the characteristics of beetle horn shape or elongated ovoid, dark brown, shiny, has a horn on the head, the body length of 42-45 mm, 3-5 mm long horn and width 16-21 mm, male beetles have longer horns than the female beetles, beetle females have hair on the tip of the abdomen while the male beetle does not have hair on the tip of the abdomen, horn beetle population densities obtained on palm trees in the District Surantih Kanagarian Silk South Coastal District is 0,5 head/trunk and intensity categorized attacks still below the threshold .

Abstract

ABSTRACT Insects are animals that live in any places which is live in the sea , on land and in the air . One of them is live around the plants , insects act as pollinators , decomposers and also as a pest , an insect has very important meaning in human life , as insects visiting flowers to take liquid food such as sweet . Based on the fact above, the composition of the research has been done in the night insects which visiting the plants in dragon fruit in Kenagarian IV Koto Hilie Kecamatan Batang Kapas Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan.This study is used a descriptive survey method is by direct collection of insects evening of the research sites with Light Trap. Sampling is done on two stations : Station I in dragon fruit plants by using 2 traps , and there disemak station II by using the I trap .The composition  of night insects  found in the garden area in  the  red dragon fruit in Kenagarian IV Koto Hilie Kecamatan Batang Kapas kabupaten Pesisir Selatan consists of 6 Ordo , 6 , 11 Family nd 13 Genus . The highest relative of density is Symphomyia genus that is ( 41.28 % ) and the lowest relative density is the Aedes  genus ( 0.92 % ) .

Abstract

ABSTRACT Carpenter bee or Xylocopa Confusa is one type of bees that nest in dead wood and bamboo. Xylocopa have important role in the process of natural pollination for plants . Xylocopa Confusa including semi- social bees, because there is no evident division to work in the colony members. Measurement of morphological characteristics of the bee is very important for bee taxonomist expert to put a type of bee into a particular taxa. Therefore research has been done on the   study   Morphometrics   Carpenter   Bee   or   Xylocopa   confusa   Linn.   (Hymenoptera: Anthophoridae) In Two Altitude in West Sumatra. This study was conducted in February 2014 using a descriptive survey method by way of direct collection Xylocopa confusa found at the study site, namely the highlands and lowlands. Then, the researcher measure performed in laboratories that morphological main body length, head, chest, wings and hind legs. For the results, the size of the morphological characters of male bees Xylocopa Confusa were significantly different on the basis of the antenna length, femur length, metatarsus length, metatarsus width, while highly significant in the total body length, head width, wide chest, thick chest, front wing length, wing length width rear wing and rear. Size morphological characteristics of female bees  Xylocopa Confusa were significantly different at the total body length, head width, the width of the antenna, wide chest, thick chest, front wing length, the width of the front wing, rear wing length, the width of the rear wing, femur length, femur width, tibia length, the width of the tibia and metatarsus length.

Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the harmful insects in maize is the wanderer Grasshopper (Locusta migratoria L.). Grasshopper wanderer often found the area under maize cultivation . Grasshopper wanderer, both young (nymphs) and old, eating the leaves of corn plants, thereby reducing the surface area of leaves. Adult grasshoppers usually eat the leaf edges , while his nymph takes in between bones , causing leaves holes in the leaves. If this locust attack in a high number of population, the leaves of corn plants that are attacked will be devoured. In connection with the matter, has done research on  grasshopper  population  density  wanderer  on  corn  in  the  Village  Banana  Padang  Pauh subdistrict which aims to determine the wanderer grasshopper population densities on corn plants in Padang Pauh subdistrict Banana Village. This study was conducted in September-October 2013, with the method sweep (sweeping) is a way to swing a grasshopper inseknet existing wanderer on corn which is used as a place of research. Field sampling conducted on maize age of 1 month and2 months after planting by using inseknet and hands. Widely used as a research area of 20x20 m. Sampling was conducted at five points with a size of 3x3 m at each point. Physical environmental factors measured are temperature and humidity. From the research that has been conducted in the village of Padang Pauh subdistrict Bananas can be concluded that the grasshopper population density wanderer in maize of different ages 1 month to 2 months of age. Wanderer grasshopper populations on corn gained as much as 1 month of age 0.7 individuals/m² (0.3 nymphs and 0.4 imago), population density is lower than in maize aged 2 months gained as much as 1.8 individuals/m² (0,7 nymphs and 1.1 imago). Grasshopper population density wanderer found already included in the criteria pests.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Population of fruit caterpillar (Helicoperva armigera) on tomato plants can reduce yield. In the area of Kampung Batu Danau Kembar District of Solok is the most widely caterpillars cause damage to tomato plants. Based on the data obtained from the UPTD Kampung Batu District of Solok, in 2013 stated that in 2011 the production of tomatoes in the amount of 85.46 tons and declined in 2012 to 69.16 tons. In connection with the matter, has done research on population density Helicoperva armigera (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae) on tomato plants in Kampung Batu Danau Kembar District of Solok which aims to determine the population density Helicoperva armigera on tomato plants in Kampung Batu Danau Kembar District of Solok.The study started from August to September 2013 with a descriptive survey method is by way of direct collection of the Helicoperva armigera larvae at the site of research. Field sampling was conducted on tomato plants age of 3 months and 4 months after planting. Physical environmental factors measured are temperature and humidity. Widely used as a study area of about 30 x 20 m. From the research that has been conducted in Kampung Batu Danau Kembar District of Solok acquired traits Helicoperva armigera found on tomato plants in Kampung Batu Danau Kembar District of Solok are long of caterpillar that is found at the age of 3 months and 4 months ranged from 1.5 cm to 3 cm, color of caterpillars were found ranging from yellow-green to brown. The highest population density of fruit caterpillar on tomato plants aged 3 months after planting is 5.40 individual/stem, while the lowest population density of fruit caterpillars on tomato plants aged 4 months after planting is 2.70 individual/stem.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Rice is the main food as a source of carbohydrates for most of Indonesian society. Farmers at harvest usually storing rice warehouse. During the storage period of rice will be damaged and shrinkage both in quality and quantity. One cause of the decline in the quality and quantity of stored corps from pest attack is a warehouse. One of the pests that attack warehouse is Sitophilus oryzae L. (Rice beetle). This study aims to determine the effect of the use of several of leaves of plants on the development of Sitophilus oryzae L. in rice (Oryza sativa). This research has been carried out in November to December 2013 Laboratory Biology Education Courses STKIP PGRI West Sumatra. This study used  a  Completely Randomized Design (CRD)  with 5  treatments  and  3  replication. As treatments is A (Control/No leaves), B (Bay leaf), C (Sugar apple leaves), D (Soursop leaf) and E (Red betel leaf). Observed data, that is namely mortality, imago population of Sitophilus oryzae and the percentage of damage caused by the attack of rice Sitophilus oryzae. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance with least significant difference test further (LSD) at the 5% level. The results shomed that the use of some types of plants that bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum), sugar apple leaves (Annona squamosa), soursop leaf (Annona muricata), red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) significant effect on mortality, Sitophilus oryzae imago population and the percentage of damage caused by the attack of rice Sitophilus oryzae. The leaves are most effective for controlling Sitophilus oryzae attack is red betel leaf (Piper crocatum).

Abstract

Danau Maninjau dan Batang Antokan adalah tempat yang digunakan untuk rekreasi dan pariwisata di Kabupaten Agam. Kedua aktivitas manusia di sekitar danau atau di sungai mempengaruhi kualitas air, baik dalam fisika dan kimia, dan biologi, dan sangat mempengaruhi kehidupan kerang. Mengingat aktivitas tinggi menangkap "Pensi" Corbicula moltkiana di Danau Maninjau, perlu untuk mencoba untuk melestarikan populasi kerang dan mencari cara budidaya sehingga pemanfaatan yang terus menerus dan dapat meningkatkan perekonomianmasyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakter morfometrik Pensi (Corbicula moltkiana Prime) di dua ekosistem yang berbeda dan faktor fisik-kimia yang mempengaruhinya. Penelitian ini telah dilakukan pada bulan Februari 2015 Danau Maninjau dan di Sungai Batang Antokan. Berdasarkan penelitian di Danau Maninjau dan di Sungai Batang Antokan ukuran cangkang seperti panjang, tinggi, lebar, panjang engsel, jumlah baris dan pertumbuhan basah berat di Batang Antokan daging pensi lebih bervariasi bila dibandingkan dengan Danau Maninjau. Namun, ukuran panjang cangkang melakukan di Batang Antokan berbeda dengan di Danau Maninjau sedangkan ukuran lebar dan berat daging basah Pensi tidak berbeda dalam dua habitat. Hubungan antara panjang berat basah daging di Danau Maninjau dan Batang Antokan di berkorelasi sangat erat dengan panjang clam shell mereka. Faktor fisika kimia air di Danau Maninjau dan Batang Antokan di masih dalam kisaran normal dan toleran di Pensi (Corbicula moltkiana Perdana) mendukung kehidupan kecuali tingkat substrat organik

Abstract

Polyploidy in the frog Rana cancrivora can be done by providing a temperature shock. The thing need to consider in treatment temperature shock at  the egg is the beginning of a shock, temperature of shock and duration of shock. The research aims to identify and test the effect of temperature shock 36⁰C to the development of the embryo, and the success of poliploidisation of frog R. Cancrivora. The research was conducted in Biology Laboratory STKIP PGRI West Sumatra. The results shows that administration of 36⁰C temperature shock on egg fertilization influences on the development of frog embryos R. Cancrivora i.e. on the treatment D (45 minutes after fertilization). Yet, the temperature shock is 36⁰C does not show any influence on the success of poliploidisation of frog R. Cancrivora.

Abstract

Hutan  merupakan  asosiasi  dari tumbuh-tumbuhan  yang  sebagian  besarterdiri  atas  pohon-pohon  atau  vegetasi  berkayu  yang  menempati  suatu  areal. Hutan memiliki manfaat bagi manusia, manfaat tersebut diperoleh apabila hutan terjamin ekosistemnya sehingga dapat berfungsi secara optimal.   Hutan Pinang Makmur merupakan hutan yang terletak di Kecamatan Timpeh Kenagarian Tabek Dharmaraya. Hutan ini mengalami berbagai gangguan diantaranya pembukaan lahan  pertanian  dan  penebangan  pohon  yang  dilakukan  oleh  penduduk  yang berada di sekitar hutan. Aktivitas penduduk ini telah menciptakan kerusakan di beberapa tempat  sehingga terbentuk  gap atau ruang terbuka. Kerusakan hutan dikhawatirkan akan mengancam keanekaragaman jenis (diversity) tumbuhan terutama pohon. Sehubungan dengan hal tersebut maka telah dilakukan penelitian tentang  inventarisasi  pohon  di  hutan  Pinang  Makmur  Kecamatan  TimpehKabupaten Dharmasraya. Penelitian ini telah dilakukan pada bulan September2015 di Hutan Pinang Makmur Kecamatan Timpeh Kabupaten Dharmasraya dengan menggunakan metode garis berpetak. Teknik penentuan lokasi dengan metode purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian didapatkan 217 individu  dengan 31 familia pohon di hutan Pinang Makmur Kecamatan Timpeh Kabupaten Dharmasraya. Individu terbanyak didapatkan pada famili Euphorbiaceae dengan26 individu. Diikuti oleh familia Olacarceae dengan 24 individu, Moraceae 23individu, Verbenaceae 21 individu dan Leguminosae 18 individu dan indidu dari familia lain  ditemukan dalam jumlah   sedikit.

Abstract
