Abstract

Abstract

Detection of the concentration of rhodamine B in distilled water using a fiber coupler and fiber bundle as probes with a static position on the sample surface and not in direct contact with the sample was successfully carried out. The working mechanism of the sensor uses the principle of sample absorption of the light that passes through it. The concave mirror functions as a reflector and a sample container, allowing an undirect contact probe sensor with the sample. Both types of sensors show similar performance. The best detection is shown by sensors that use fiber bundles as probes. The resulting sensitivity and resolution are 2.1 mV/ppm and 0.29 ppm, respectively.DOI: 10.17977/um024v7i22022p127

Abstract

Theoretical perspectives are important in framing a research model of parental involvement. Despite numerous studies examining parental involvement, their findings continue to exhibit inconsistency when viewed through a theoretical lens. A literature review conducted in 2017 examined the theoretical frameworks employed in parental involvement studies conducted between 2007 to 2011. The primary objective of this study is to analyze and offer novel insights into the theoretical perspectives that underpin parental involvement research, adhering to PRISMA guidelines. We conducted an extensive study of literature published between 2012 to 2023 that met the following inclusion criteria: research papers, reports on parental involvement, and reports on theoretical framework. Our study encompassed a systematic search of electronic databases, including Scopus, EBSCO Sciences, Emerald, and Science Direct from July to September 2023 to identify relevant articles. A total of 366 articles were obtained, and 44 articles met the criteria. Four theories frequently utilized in parental involvement research emerged from this study, namely Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory; Bourdieu, Coleman, and Lareau’s social capital; Social Identity Theory; and Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior. The findings of this research serve as a foundational resource for future research on parental involvement across diverse contextual settings.

Abstract

Parental expectations play a crucial role in shaping a child's developmental trajectory, serving as a primary motivator for the attainment of future aspirations. Researchers conducted a literature review on parental expectations toward their children, utilizing ten instruments developed in journal literature from 2008 to 2020. Of particular interest was the Parent Questionnaire containing the Chinese Parental Expectation on Child’s Future Scale (CPECF), it constitutes a fundamental framework for comprehending parental anticipations in the realm of child development. This study aimed to adapt and validate the PECF scale, employing established validation procedures endorsed by the International Test Commission. Initially, a cohort of 987 parents participated; however, after data cleansing procedures aimed at eliminating incomplete responses and ensuring accuracy, the analysis focused on 593 respondents. The participants’ ages ranged from 21 to 78 years, with a mean age of 35.93 years. Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed 17 valid and reliable items. The model demonstrated a good fit. These findings suggest that the PECF scale effectively measures parental expectations, aligning with the original scale. It is anticipated that this scale will serve as a valuable tool for research concerning parental expectations in Indonesia, aiding in understanding and addressing the dynamics.

Abstract

Parental expectations play a role in shaping parental involvement, potentially leading to positive outcomes for children. Despite the importance of these factors, research on parental expectations and involvement has been limited in the past two decades. Therefore, this study aims to explore the connection between parental expectations and involvement through a meta-analysis. Following the PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a thorough analysis of existing literature. Employing a meta-analytical approach, data were collected from ten reputable international journal databases, including Scopus, SAGE, Emerald, Web of Science, Proquest, PubMed, Taylor and Francis, Google Scholar, Springer, and Science Direct. The inclusion criteria focused on research centered on parental expectations and parental involvement, resulting in eight articles included in our final analysis. The evaluation of quality employed the Appraisal Tool for Cross-Sectional Studies (AXIS) to gauge bias risk. Results indicate a noteworthy correlation between parental expectations and involvement (r=0.209, p0.001), implying that higher parental expectations correlate with greater parental involvement and vice versa. Moreover, our analysis revealed high heterogeneity (I2 = 96.44%) among the studies, indicating substantial variability. Additionally, the bias assessment (p = 0.048) indicated evidence of publication bias across the studies. Future research opportunities lie in developing studies that delve into the association between parental expectation and parental involvement, examining how this relationship functions independently from other variables in specific contexts such as student achievements or early literacy.
