Abstract

Personal and genre-based approaches are an approach to learning English as an EFL language, specifically in narrative text writing. So far, no research has conducted a comprehensive comparative analysis between these two approaches. The purpose of this study is to determine which of the personal approach and genre-based approaches is more suitable for practical application in teaching narrative writing in EFL classrooms. By using the qualitative design through post-tests in writing narratives, and then interviews. The participants were 11th graders at SMK YMJ CIPUTAT. The results show that the genre-based approach in writing narrative text is more effective and interesting and students prefer the genre-based approach, based on the analysis of student writing with a total score of 82, while the personal approach (experience) with a score of 76, but personal experience can provide an alternative writing method that is interesting to students. Therefore, the genre-based approach can be used as the main method in learning to write, while the personal approach can be used as a complementary method.

Abstract

EFL students in Indonesia still discovered some problems in speaking, such as limited time in classroom practice, lack of confidence, and need for innovative learning media. Addressing this problem, this study investigated whether implementing native speakers’ modeling on social media as learning media affects students’ speaking skills. As we live in the existence of digital lives, social media has become one of the popular digital platforms; therefore, we can advance social media to assist students and teachers in classroom teaching and learning. Furthermore, social media nowadays are viral and used mainly by students, so it would not be complicated to integrate social media into a classroom activity. This study employed a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental research design that involved 58 tenth-grade students of one senior high school selected toward a purposive sampling allocated into experimental and control classes. The oral test of describing people served as a pre-test and a post-test. The t-test was employed to analyze the data. The result showed a higher score improvement in students’ speaking in the experimental class. In addition, the students were enthusiastic when the treatment was conducted. This finding means English native speakers' modeling on social media potentially affected students' speaking skills in describing people.

Abstract

Today, almost every level of education makes use of digital technologies such as mobile devices and applications. It is intended to improve students' classroom experience and performance by providing a fun and interesting learning environment. Among these applications is Padlet. It allows Students and teachers can post pictures, audio, videos, and assignments on its virtual wall. The purpose of this research is to find out what students think about the Padlet application in the EFL writing classroom. Purposive sampling was used to select 82 participants from twelfth-grade senior high school students. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach to investigate in-depth information about students' perspectives. The instruments for this study were a closed-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. According to the data gathered from the questionnaires and interviews, the students in their writing class have positive attitudes toward Padlet. Padlet provides students with a fun and interesting learning environment while also improving their motivation, collaboration, language development, and lowering their learning anxiety. However, when using Padlet, two factors must be considered: a lack of interaction between teacher and students, and an unstable internet connection. Overall, Padlet contributes significantly as a tool in the EFL writing classroom.

Abstract

For a long time, teachers are being burdened with their abundance of never-ending workload that could cause exhaustion. One of those workloads that is necessary for teachers to do is lesson plan. With the recent development in AI tools technology, it promised to be capable in easing the teacher’s burden creating lesson plans, albeit the teachers are willing to implement it. Hence, this study aims to find an EFL teacher’s perspective on utilizing AI tools in their lesson plan. By using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), This preliminary study utilized a purposive sample of 20 EFL teachers at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. While the sample size is modest, it serves as an exploratory pilot to identify immediate trends in teacher attitudes during the rapid introduction of AI tools in the 2024/2025 academic year. The findings provide a foundational baseline for future large-scale longitudinal research on AI adoption in Indonesian secondary schools. The study findings indicate that teachers agree that AI tools are useful (M=3.32), easy to use (M=3.44), exhibit positive attitude (M=3.40), and strong behavioral intention towards using (M=3.30). The findings of this study hopefully contribute to a better perspective of implementing AI tools in EFL teacher’s lesson plan and convince other teachers to perceive a similar acceptance. Furthermore, the insight also provides a useful reference for future research that wants to develop their research in this certain topic.
