Abstract

The open-loop educational computer numerical control (CNC) milling machine requires accuracy verification in order to ensure its accuracy and functionality. In this paper, the new verification method is proposed based on the length measurement using the fringe counting of He-Ne laser interferometry. The ideal translation length is defined by the number of electric pulses generated by the micro-stepping driver, while the actual length is measured using He-Ne laser interferometry. In the experimental process, the data of the fringe pattern of the He-Ne laser and the number of electric pulses which drive the stepper motors were simultaneously acquired using an oscilloscope. Hence, the data has been analyzed to obtain the ideal and actual lengths by using an in-house program developed in Python. By comparing the actual translation and ideal length, the accuracy of the educational CNC milling machine has been evaluated to be 50 µm for the length up to 200 mm.

Abstract

To improve agricultural and plantation yields, farmers need fertilizer. Currently the problems faced by farmers in Tancep Village Ngawen District Gunungkidul Regency is the scarcity and high price of fertilizer. On the other hand, the area has great potential, in the form of availability of organic materials and animal manure that can be utilized as fertilizer. In this community service the knowledge and simple technology to process waste and other organic materials into compost were given. The process of making compost requires the process of chopping garbage or organic materials, such as wet leaves and twigs, so that the pieces are small. For that in this activity needs to be done making garbage chopper machine or organic materials. An organic waste counter machine is made with a rotary blade construction consisting of 12 blades. The construction of a machine is made portable with a propulsion in the form of a gasoline engine, so the machine is easily moved and operated indoors or outdoors. Through community service activities in Tancep Village, Ngawen Subdistrict, Gunungkidul Regency has formed a garbage bank managed by Karang Taruna group. In addition to collecting and reselling of inorganic waste, the activity developed is processing organic waste into compost. Through the knowledge and equipment owned, it is expected that the compost fertilizer produced can help meet the needs of fertilizer for local farmers to self-help fertilizer.

Abstract

UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is a unique polyethylene material widely used in biomedical applications as a bearing material for human body joint implants. The production of these UHMWPE implant components is still commonly performed with machine tools. Operation of these machines requires specific setting machining parameters in order to produce good UHMWPE surface quality without sacrificing the production cost. This research aims to find the relationship between cylindrical lathe machining productivity parameter, MRR (Material Removal Rate), and surface quality of the produced UHMWPE implant. MRR is directly related to production costs. The research was conducted by turning the UHMWPE at five feed rate variations between 0.025 to 0.2 mm/rev. and two depth of cut variations, 0.05 mm, and 0.1 mm, with a cutting speed of 150 m / minute. The test used a Denford FANUC CNC lathe machine with a cemented carbide cutting tool. Product quality was determined by measuring the topography or surface roughness of the material. Results show that the surface quality is inversely related to MRR. This problem can be solved by adjusting the depth of the cut. High productivity can be obtained by cutting thicker material. The difference in the surface quality of the cylindrical lathe machined material in the two depth of cut variations is not significant.

Abstract

Splitting merupakan salah satu tahapan proses produksi bambu laminasi. Splitting dilakukan dengan mesin pembelah bambu untuk mengubah batang bambu menjadi bilah-bilah bambu. Dalam proses splitting, komponen booster bergerak maju-mundur di sepanjang rel untuk mendorong bambu yang terletak pada bagian penopang sampai ujung bambu bertumbukan dengan pisau pembelah sehingga batang bambu terbelah menjadi bilah-bilah (bamboo strips). Pada mesin pembelah bambu terdapat track roller bearing yang berfungsi sebagai guide roller. Salah satu komponen penting dalam rangkaian track roller bearing adalah poros. Kasus kegagalan komponen berupa patahnya poros track roller bearing telah dijumpai pada mesin pembelah bambu yang terdapat di sentra kerajinan bambu, Rosse Bambu Yogyakarta. Kerusakan komponen mesin tentu menghambat berjalannya proses produksi bambu laminasi, oleh sebab itu dilakukan analisis kegagalan dalam penelitian ini dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui faktor penyebab kegagalan yang dialami oleh poros track roller bearing pada mesin pembelah bambu sekaligus sebagai upaya antisipasi untuk menghindari terjadinya kasus kegagalan yang serupa. Analisis kegagalan dilakukan dengan melakukan pengujian komposisi kimia material dengan metode Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (AES), pengamatan visual dan pengamatan skala makro terhadap permukaan patahan yang terbentuk, pengujian metalografi untuk mengetahui struktur mikro material poros track roller bearing yang patah, dan pengujian kekerasan Vickers. Permukaan patahan poros tampak terang dan berbentuk granular menunjukkan karakteristik patah getas. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa material poros terbuat dari baja karbon tinggi AISI 1080 yang telah menerima perlakuan quenching dengan nilai kekerasan material sebesar 311,59 HV sehingga material bersifat keras dan getas. Sifat tersebut mengakibatkan poros tidak mampu menahan beban kejut yang diterima saat proses pembelahan bambu berlangsung. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh yaitu kegagalan yang terjadi disebabkan oleh faktor pemilihan material dan perlakuan panas yang dilakukan tidak sesuai untuk aplikasi poros track roller bearing pada mesin pembelah bambu.

Abstract

The hydraulic system is a power transmission system by using the compressive energy of the fluid into mechanical energy to obtain a power greater than the initial power released. The press machine is one of the pieces of equipment that apply the hydraulic system. In the process of making laminated bamboo, the bamboo gluing technique is assisted using a press machine. Based on observations, the press machine used is a manual press machine, so the pressing process is not efficient. This study aims to increase the effectiveness of pressing laminated bamboo. The results of the study found that the press machine has 4 hydraulic cylinders so the pressing process can be carried out at several points simultaneously. The results of the hydraulic system analysis diagram show hydraulic cylinder moves in 16,9 seconds with a pressure of 100 bar, so the pressing process is fast. Mathematical calculations produce data, a hydraulic gear pump with a displacement of 13 cc/rev, electric motor power of 3,7 kW, hydraulic cylinder diameter of 63 mm, cylinder rod of 35 mm, rod of 400 mm, and a hydraulic tank capacity of 12 liters.

Abstract

The manufacturing industry sector in Indonesia is experiencing rapid development, significantly contributing to the national GDP. CNC milling 5-axis technology, offering high accuracy and efficiency, is increasingly being used across various industries. However, clamping process issues often hinder the optimal performance of these machines. This study analyzes the impact of implementing the Zero Point Clamping System on the effectiveness of CNC milling 5-axis machines using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method. The study results show a significant increase in the Availability value, which rose by 10.7% from 80.3% to 91%, and the Performance Rate, which increased by 2.9% from 93.4% to 96.3%, while the Quality Ratio remained unchanged. This improvement led to the OEE value increasing from 75% to 87.5%, indicating a 12.5% increase in effectiveness. The implementation of the Zero Point Clamping System significantly reduced Setup and Adjustment time from 13.8% to 4.7% and Idling and Minor Stoppage time from 5.9% to 4.4%, as well as reducing Reduced Speed Losses from 5.25% to 3.5%. These results demonstrate that the application of the Zero Point Clamping System can enhance the effectiveness of CNC milling 5-axis machines by reducing downtime and increasing machine speed, resulting in higher availability and improved machine performance. Consequently, this innovation makes a tangible contribution to improving operational efficiency and the competitiveness of Indonesia's manufacturing industry. Abstract

The cutter planer is one of the main components of a bamboo planer which functions to flatten the surface of the bamboo blades. The cutter planer has a problem, namely the maximum stress is not known due to the complexity of the components which is difficult to analyze using the mechanical equation calculation method, so that to overcome this problem a numerical method is used, namely the finite element method. In this study, an analysis was carried out on a cutter planer by comparing the process of cutting bamboo slats with two directions of rotation clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW). The material used in the cutter planer is HSS and bamboo material with petung bamboo. The results of this study show that the highest maximum stress distribution for the cutter occurs in CCW and the lowest maximum stress distribution for the cutter occurs in CW.

Abstract

The global shift towards electrification has extended its reach to non-road mobile machinery, with a primary focus on agricultural applications. This growing trend reflects the larger shift towards sustainability and the minimization of environmental effects. Electric tractors and other farm machinery have gained popularity due to their environmental benefits, cost savings, and technological advancements. The electric non-road vehicles are not only quieter and more environmentally friendly but also offer the potential for reduced operational costs, making them a compelling choice for farmers looking to modernise their equipment while adhering to stringent environmental regulations. Thus, the concept of an electric tractor becomes an important topic to be discussed. This paper will discuss the development of tractors in Indonesia and proposed design for electric tractors that are suitable for Indonesia to support sustainable farming.

Abstract

Retrofitted milling machines are usually not equipped with a gear box to control spindle rotation, so they will experience difficulties if varied spindle shaft rotation is desired. The commonly used way to adjust the rotation of the spindle shaft so that it can vary is by adjusting the rotation of the spindle drive induction motor using a Variable Speed Drive (VSD). The research started by removing the old single phase induction motor and replacing it with a three phase induction motor, then creating a control circuit so that the VSD could work automatically with commands from the breakout board. The rotation adjustment is carried out using a potentiometer installed on the VSD. Spindle shaft rotation is detected using a pulse meter which gets a signal from an inductive proximity sensor and is installed on the spindle shaft. Experiments during the research showed that the spindle rotation could be adjusted using VSD properly, starting from a speed of 0 rpm to 2000 rpm. The spindle experiences a decrease in speed when subjected to a load, most likely due to slippage that occurs from the drive pulley which is rotated by the drive induction motor to the spindle pulley because it uses a belt transmission.

Abstract

The Oil Separator is a part produced by PT Astra Otoparts Nusametal Division. The products are manufactured on the machining line. The production process of part oil separator through several stages including CNC milling and lathe machining, washing part, and part verification process. Line machining oil separators have been found to have waste problems, namely moving manpower, waiting time process, and inappropriate processing, causing work imbalances in the production process. The job imbalance causes the daily production target not to be achieved as the company planned, so the customer needs cannot be met. The problem in this study was solved using the value stream mapping method to analyze the waste occurring and the impact resulting from the relayout line machining oil separator. The waste analysis is done by spreading questionnaires, waste weighting, value stream analysis tools selection (VALSAT), and cause analysis with fishbone diagrams. After that, some improvements were made to reduce the waste. Implementation of improvements resulted in a reduction in the number of work processes from 72 to 47. Thus, the lead time for process line machining oil separator decreased from 521 seconds/cycle to 444 seconds/ cycle with an increase in the total process cycle efficiency of 8.67%. In addition, the productivity of the previous average number of parts of 6575 pcs/day was increased to 7024 pcs / day and the manpower was reduced from five manpowers/day to three manpowers/day.
