Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through mosquito bites. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the main vector. However, other species such as Aedes albopictus can also be vector transmitters. Some of the factors that influence the occurrence of DHF include low immunity status of community groups and increased mosquito population density due to the large number of breeding places in the rainy season. Currently, DHF is still a common disease and is one of the main public health problems in Indonesia. The number of cases of dengue fever in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province in 2015 was 665 cases, in 2016 as many as 1,213 cases, and in 2017 as many as 542 cases. This study aims to analyze the relationship between behavior and the incidence of dengue fever in the working area of the Bakunase Health Center, Kupang City. This study was an analytic observational study with a case-control design. Data were collected in January-February 2020. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between knowledge and attitude with the incidence of DHF, while action has a significant relationship with the incidence of DHF. Community empowerment efforts related to preventive measures need to be prioritized so that the risk of DHF disease can be reduced.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are complaints related to the muscle tissue system caused by certain types of work activities and body postures. Weavers may likely experience the disorders due to the weaving-related activities such as unnatural posture, length of work, and individual characteristic factors. Musculoskeletal complaints can be the initial cause of disability. The purpose of this study was to describe the risk factors for musculoskeletal complaints in weavers in Rindi Village, East Sumba Regency. This type of research is descriptive with an observational research design. A total of 60 female weavers were selected as the research sample. The study showed that the weavers who often experienced serious complaints of MSDs were in the age group ≥ 30 years, with work period more than 4 years, and work duration reached ≥ 8 hours per day. Weavers should adjust the duration of weaving and reduce repetitive movements. Weavers are recommended to take a rest for 30-60 minutes and to work in an ergonomic posture without putting excessive loads on certain parts of the body.

Theeeye fatigue experienced by tailors due to sewing is one of the jobs that requires a great deal of accuracy because the shape and size of the work object is very close and small, so the eye has to work extra to avoid mistakes. Eye fatigue that occurs in tailors can interfere with vision and increase the risk of errors or accidents while working so that it can reduce work productivity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between age, length of work and lighting levels with eye fatigue of tailors in Kuanino Village, Kupang City. The reason for choosing this location is because the location of this research is a place where there are many sewing business activities. It is hoped that the tailors will be able to pay attention and take advantage of the level of lighting and the duration or working time with the aim of resting the eyes so that they are not too focused on staring at the object and can take a short break in order to reduce complaints of eye fatigue.

Abstract

Dug wells are easily contaminated with pollutants if the quality of construction is poor and if the wells are located close to the source of pollution. Water contamination in the wells in paddy fields may occur due to fertilization and pesticide spraying activities. This study aims to determine the quality of construction and the location of dug wells with sources of pollution, and pesticide substance found in well water. This research was descriptive with a quantitative approach. The study was conducted in the paddy fields of Oesao Village, Kupang Regency in October 2020. A total population of 10 dug wells was selected as the sample. The results showed that 80% of the floor, 90% of the well lip, and 20% of the wall did not meet the requirements. The research also found that 40% of the wells were near the pollutant source. Also, pesticides were identified in half of the wells. In conclusion, the construction and location of the wells had a significant relation with pesticide substances found in the water of dug wells. The Agriculture Office needs to conduct a well-prepared control planning and monitoring for pesticide use among farmers and to transfer knowledge about the waste management of pesticide plastic bottles. The Health office should educate the community about eligible construction of dug wells based on health standards.

Abstract

The HIRARC (Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Risk Control) is a method of identification, hazard analysis, risk control, and the application of controls used to review processes or operations on a system. This type of research was qualitative with an in-depth interview technique, which was then summarized in a transcript and analyzed using a research form and a risk assessment matrix. This research was conducted in Laicici, Kangeli Village, Lewa Tidahu District, East Sumba Regency. Informants in this study were workers at the stone cutting site, as many as six. Determining the informants in this study used a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that each stage of work undertaken to produce a stone ready for use at the Laicici stone cutting site, Kangeli Village, had different dangers and risks. The low-risk level was the risk of falling and hearing loss. The moderate risk was a pain in the lower back and being pinched and crushed by stones. High risk was found in the risk of slipping, fatigue, working time > 8 hours per day, dehydration and heat-related illness, and the risk of eye irritation. The extreme risk was the risk of fatigue caused by working more than 8 hours every day and the risk of injury caused by sharp work tools. Controls that can be carried out to reduce or eliminate the hazards and risks at the stone cutting site for stone cutting workers are substitution, administrative control, engineering control, and the use of self-protective gears
