Abstract

Making wigs requires high eyes concentration and precission, because it has a work with small object and is done monotonously. If it is done for a certain period of time, it will cause tension in the eye’s muscles, which can cause eyes fatigue. Efforts to prevent eyes fatigue were done by doing eye exercises in order to improve the ability of the nerves and eyes muscles. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the average value of eyes fatigue between the intervention group and the control group to reduce the level of eyes fatigue in the wig’s workers. This research is an experimental study using randomized pre-posttest control group design. Research was conducted at CV. Dona Mandiri, Kupang City, with the population of 79 people and chosen by simple random allocation. The study subjects numbered 17 people in the intervention group and 17 people in the control group. The level of eye fatigue was measured using an eyes fatigue questionnaire consisting of 10 questions about symptoms of eyes fatigue. Data analysis using independent sample T-test. The results showed that the signifikan difference in the average value of eye fatigue in the intervention group and the control group amounted to 9.412 (p<0.05). It concluded that eyes exercises could reduce the level of eyes fatigue in wigs hair workers.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is widely experienced by many brick workers who generally carry out repeated physical activities of lifting-and-carrying with non-ergonomic postures. Such condition can increase the risk of work posture and LBP intensity which if continued can disrupt the continuity of production, increase the risk of injury, and reduce worker productivity. Simultaneous intervention of posture improvement and stretching is conducted with the aim of reducing the risk of work posture and LBP intensity. This research was a quasi-experimental study using pre and post test design. Nineteen males brick workers from the brick production business unit sample in Kupang City who met the eligibility criteria participated in this study. They were determined as samples using purposive sampling technique. Simultaneous improvement of posture and stretching treatment is the selected intervention model agreed upon by researchers, workers and business owners to reduce the risk of work posture and LBP intensity for 5 weeks. The risk of work posture was measured by Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) while LBP intensity was measured using a modified Oswestry questionnaire. Five main activities were measured for LBP intensity i.e. lifting, standing, sitting, walking, social life and sleeping. Measurements the risk level of work posture and LBP intensity were taken before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed by paired t test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that posture improvement and stretching treatment reduced the risk level of brick workers' work posture from the average score of 9.25 to 5.0 or a decrease of 45.95% and reduced the intensity of LBP from 3.53 to 2.54 or a decrease 28.05%. The highest decrease in the pain intensity was found during sleep i.e. 39.19% and the lowest during lifting activity i.e. 15%. The conclusion is the improvement of posture and stretching treatment base on participatory ergonomic can reduce the risk of work posture and LBP intensity of brick workers.

Abstract

The work of digging red earth is one of the physical activities of lifting and carrying. The field conditions of work, the slope level of the land wall and work aids used are one of the reasons why workers work with a bent and twisted posture. Such an posture increases the risk of Low Back Pain (LBP). LBP can reduce work capacity and productivity and in the long time reduce the quality of health and life of workers. For this reason, ergo-physiological intervention is carried out with the aim of reducing the level of risk of work posture and LBP. This research is an experimental study using the same subject design involving 30 red earth digg workers in Bosen Village as the subject of the research. Ergo-physiological interventions are given in the form of improving work posture and physiotherapy training. Improvement of work posture is focused on activities, digging move, and carrying excavated material and lifting excavated material onto transport trucks. Physiotherapy training uses a modified William flexion exercise method. Measuring the level of risk of the work posture using the REBA method and the LBP level using the modified LBP Oswestry questionnaire, carried out before and after the intervention. Differences in data before and after the intervention were tested using different tests of paired t test for normal distributed data and Wilcoxon Sign Rank test for data that were not normally distributed, each using a significance level of 5%. The results showed a decrease in the risk level of work posture and LBP of red earth digger workers is of 3.37 (34.56%) and 1.24 (32.29%) respectively. It was concluded that ergo-physiological interventions effectively reduce the risk of work posture and the level of LBP of red earth digger workers.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal complaints in Ndao weaving workers are a problem of muscle disorders for weavers. As a result of this process is a long time and repeatedly will cause musculoskeletal complaints. Workplace Stretching Exercise is designed with the principle of muscle stretching, which is an attempt to extend muscle rest or relaxation. This activity will improve blood circulation so that it helps relax nervous tension and train muscles to be stronger so they don't get tired easily while working. This study aimed to analyze the effect of workplace stretching exercises on the reduction of musculoskeletal complaints in Ndao weaving workers in Rote Ndao Regency. This is a quantitative research with a pre-experimental design type one-group pretest-posttest design method. The population in this study were active weavers in Ikat Ndao weaving, Lobalain District as many as 40 weavers. The selected research sample has met the eligibility criteria for as many as 18 active weavers. The type of analysis test used is the paired sample t-test. The results showed that there was a difference in the level of musculoskeletal complaints before the intervention was in the moderate complaint category with a percentage of 77.8% and after the WSE intervention, the complaints decreased to the low complaint category with a percentage of 66.7% with a significant decrease in value of 19.39%. The results of the analysis show that there is an effect of Workplace Stretching Exercise on the reduction of musculoskeletal complaints in Ndao tie weaving workers, where there is a large difference in value (p = 0.007 ) ≤ (0.05), so it is expected that Ndao tie weaving workers will carry out Workplace Stretching Exercise activities every day in between weaving activities to reduce musculoskeletal complaints.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is the pain experienced in the lower back muscles region. Sitting for a long time as that of online game users may cause such complaints. Other risk factors such as age, sex, BMI, and a longer time to play the game theoretically have a relationship with the incidence of LBP. This study aims to determine the relationship of individual factors and ergonomic factors to the incidence of LBP on the use of online games in Kupang. The study design was cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 38 online game users in Kupang and selected by using accidental sampling technique. Data analyzed by Chi-Square test with the significance of 95%. Result research indicated that individual factors that were age (p = 0.497), gender (p = 0.198), smoking (p = 0.547), and body mass index (p = 0.554) had no association with the incidence of LBP, while the ergonomic factors namely the duration of playing games (p = 0.007) and sitting position (p = 0.004) were related with LBP. Therefore, online game users should consider the duration of the game and sitting position applied in order to reduce LBP.
