Abstract

This research explores the integration of Islamic principles with modern educational theories to develop an understanding of Islamic education as a transformative platform to achieve human perfection. Based on the principles of Maqasid al-Sharia, which includes basic human rights such as Faith, Life, Intelligence, Heredity, and Wealth, Islamic education focuses on a holistic approach that includes spiritual, moral, and intellectual dimensions. The method used in this study is qualitative, with literature review as the main approach to analyzing diverse sources from Islamic teachings, Muslim philosophers, and Western thinkers. This research identifies trends and commonalities of concepts related to human development and perfection through different philosophical and religious perspectives. The study results show that Islamic education not only aims to provide knowledge but also to encourage spiritual, moral, and intellectual development that is in harmony with the universal principles of human dignity and perfection. The conclusion of this study suggests that Islamic education with a holistic approach can empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to society while achieving personal fulfillment. The implications of this research can enrich educational practices by integrating Islamic values into human development toward perfection, both at the individual and community levels.

Abstract

Pesantren education, as a cornerstone of Indonesia's educational system, plays a significant historical and cultural role in shaping religious understanding and national character. However, its role as an agent of change in promoting civility and humanity remains underexplored. This qualitative case study investigates how the transformation of pesantren education, particularly through curriculum integration, fosters religious moderation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation at pesantren in West Java, Indonesia, and analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that the integration of national and local curricula significantly enhances students' moderate attitudes across four dimensions: national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and respect for local culture. This study contributes to understanding how pesantren can adapt to modern challenges by aligning traditional Islamic education with inclusive and pluralistic values, thus strengthening their role in creating a harmonious society.

Abstract

Abstract

The history of nations has witnessed how movements advocating separatism or religious extremism pose challenges to state security and unity, particularly in diverse societies. This issue remains a significant challenge for developing countries today. This study explores the concept of citizenship from an Islamic perspective, drawing from primary Islamic sources such as the Qur'an, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and historical precedents from his leadership. Employing qualitative library research, data was collected through textual analysis of Islamic scriptures and historical records. The study categorizes key aspects of Islamic citizenship and employs descriptive analysis to examine its moral, social, and political dimensions. Findings reveal that Islamic citizenship is centered on justice, social harmony, welfare, and state defense—offering a framework distinct from Western notions of citizenship. Rather than being confined to administrative rights, Islamic citizenship embodies active contributions to societal welfare, security, and global humanitarian efforts. Ultimately, this study concludes that the Islamic perspective on citizenship prioritizes collective welfare and national stability, transcending mere legal documentation and emphasizing broader moral and societal obligations.

Abstract

The idea of a "Clash of Civilizations" between Islam and the West has gained traction since the events of September 11, 2001. This has created a divide between two extreme viewpoints of the world, which leads to truth claims and terrorist action. Countries like Indonesia and Turkey, with large Muslim populations, play a significant role in Islamic moderate education to counter terrorism, so recently many Muslim students from various parts of the world have started going to Istanbul and Jakarta as destinations for studying Islam and are no longer only to Cairo and Medina. This is due to the relatively safe political and security conditions, and these cities' welcoming and inclusive atmosphere makes them attractive destinations for seeking a well-rounded academic experience. This research aims to compare the values of moderation in the Islamic education curricula of IHS Fatih Sultan Mehmet (Turkey) and MAN Insan Cendekia  (Indonesia), as the most excellent Islamic high school lately. Qualitative methods were used in variants of case studies, from documents, books, and interviews, and data were collected, using component analysis, and theory triangulation was used for validation. The findings reveal that both educational systems emphasize moderation, but their cultural contexts differ. In Indonesia, moderation is linked to Pancasila values, while Turkey combines secular principles with Islamic values. The result of the study shows that Islamic education in Indonesia and Turkey is classified as moderate education with different parameters. The first must adapt to local wisdom, and the second must adapt to Islamic-secular identity.

Abstract

With the massive development of information technology today, mental health in higher education has become a problem that has attracted the attention of several countries, especially in Indonesia. Digital-based distance learning provides a more exploratory and accelerated impact compared to traditional learning, but in psychological aspects, it can have a different impact. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the intensity of obligatory prayers and mental health in students of As-Syafi'iyah Islamic University, Jakarta. Using a quantitative method with a survey approach, the research design is correlational. The sampling method used is a purposive sampling technique, with the criteria being active UIA students performing obligatory prayers at the Al Barkah Mosque. The subjects in the study were 68 from the active UIA student population. Data for both research variables were collected using a five-strata Likert scale questionnaire. The data analysis technique used Pearson product-moment correlation analysis to determine the relationship between two variables and was carried out with the help of open source software, R Version 4.5.1 for Windows. The data for both research variables and the linear relationship specifications were all met. The results of the analysis show that there is a positive relationship between the intensity of obligatory prayers and mental health in students at As-Syafi'iyah Islamic University Jakarta.
