Abstract

The United States, under the administrations of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, demonstrated stark differences in their foreign policy approaches to the Israel–Palestine conflict. Obama emphasized a normative and persuasive strategy by supporting the two-state solution as a means to bring both parties to the negotiating table. In contrast, Trump adopted a more aggressive and controversial approach, exemplified by the launch of Trump's Peace Plan and the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. This research aims to compare the foreign policy directions of both presidents, with a particular focus on how internal factors and idiosyncratic characteristics shaped their decision-making processes. Using a qualitative approach and the idiosyncratic theory as the analytical framework, the research examines each leader's background, leadership style, and policy preferences. The findings suggest that Obama tended to favor multilateralism and diplomacy, while Trump prioritized a more transactional approach. The research concludes that idiosyncratic factors played a significant role in shaping the United States' foreign policy approach to the Israel–Palestine conflict.

Abstract

This writing aims to analyze the development of global geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific region. Furthermore, it focuses on analyzing Indonesia's maritime interests and strategic position in the region. Therefore, frameworks of geopolitical theory, international regimes, and maritime safety, security, and defense are needed as analytical tools. Moreover, developments in geopolitics in the region greatly influence Indonesia's maritime security. The results of this writing depict that maritime interests of archipelagic states must become a priority considering the geopolitical things have consequences in the maritime region for the future interests of the country.

Abstract

ABSTRACTYemen is a country with a weak health care system, very vulnerable to exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic. Realizing this, assistance from other parties is needed to overcome these problems. The ICRC as an international non-governmental organization (INGO) has an interest in helping deal with the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Yemen. By using the concepts of human security and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as role theory, this study attempts to analyze the ICRC’s role in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in Yemen. Qualitative-descriptive approach is the method used by the author in this study. Based on the research that has been done, several roles were found by the International Committee of the Red Cross during the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Yemen. Firstly, as implementer, the ICRC plays a role in mobilizing resources by providing the goods and services needed during the COVID-19 pandemic in Yemen. Second, as a catalyst, the ICRC plays a role in advocating for the wider community through campaign activities and dissemination of information on the prevention of COVID-19. As a partner, the ICRC is working closely with the Authorities in Yemen, as well as the Yemen Red Crescent and other organizations in dealing with the pandemic. The result of this study indicate that in carrying out its role as an international non-governmental organization, the ICRC has not been able to play its fullest role due to obstacles and challenges in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in Yemen. Keywords: ICRC, COVID-19, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Human Security, Yemen

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze China's strategic moves to achieve mutual concession in the issue of normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Furthermore, this paper explains the change from enmity to friendship between Saudi Arabia and Iran, explaining China's strategic foreign policy moves in the Middle East. The concepts of foreign policy, diplomatic bargaining, and enmity-amity are used to analyze the issues raised in this paper. Certain international reports and analyses, as well as some official documents and literature, will be obtained to collect some data to provide an overview of the focus of the analysis as described by qualitative research focusing on literature study. The main findings in this analysis explain that foreign policy supported by economic capabilities has encouraged China's foreign policy to expand the scope of partnerships that affect economic, political, and security developments in the Middle East through the stages of diplomacy to improve China's bargaining position. This not only provides space for China to contribute to the Middle East but also at the same time provides China with space to expand its influence while increasing the competitive side in the competition between China and the US in the Middle East. The results of this paper emphasize the need of a foreign policy direction that in line with the national interests and supported by diplomatic skills is needed to increase the role and global contribution regarding the national strategic interest.

Abstract

The securitization of cyberspace has been specter to the political studies in various countries. This article focusses on the dynamic of speech act on implementation consent and its relation to the theory of lateral pressure formulated by Nazli in studying cyberpolitcs. Since 2018 European Commission has implemented GDPR as a basic law related to data transfer, collect and process (TCP). This policy has brought the fundamental problem to the activity conducting by the state and private sector. Moreover, it was also criticized that this policy has brought to the discrimination of algorithm that came to bias to the minority group. In speak of Methodology, we used qualitative research of 418 article with keyword ‘consent’ focusing in Social and Humanities Science on Journal Sage, after manually analysis found 146 articles related to the consent study and social science. The final project is to find out the significant tendency on how Europe has securitized GDPR through speech act by corelating it to the Lateral Pressure Index. The potential implications of the finding could give theoretical preference in formulating data protection base policy.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze Iran’s foreign policy formulation model in the conflict in Syria. Furthermore, this paper tries to identify Iran’s foreign policy formulation model as a response to the Syrian conflict. This writing uses a qualitative research method, that emphasizes case studies of Iran’s foreign policy in the Syrian conflict by emphasizing literature studies that focus on official documents, reports, and certain international analyses, which are used to collect some data to provide an overview of the focus of analysis. Theoretically, Lovell’s thoughts on models of foreign policy formulation and adaptation as a response to external conditions, namely leadership, accommodative, confrontative, and concordance strategy are used as an analytical tool to analyze Iran’s foreign policy formulation and response in the Syrian conflict. The findings in this paper explain that Iran’s foreign policy formulation is more influenced by leadership factors where the domestic political system emphasizes the importance of achieving national interests, namely economics, and security. While the implementation or response of Iran’s foreign policy is more confrontative considering that Iran’s involvement is more likely to encourage an increase in conflict escalation against countries in opposition to Iran while protecting the Syrian regime under Assad. The results of this article illustrate that a country’s foreign policy is influenced by the political system that characterizes the nation while also explaining the importance of foreign policy responses by national interests even though confrontational interactions are ultimately a consequence of foreign policy implementation.

Abstract

One of the findings of the Community Empowerment Team of UPN Veteran Jakarta in Pabean Udik Village, Indramayu Regency is the impact of climate change in the form of abrasion which has disrupted the sustainability of community group businesses. For long, the community has tried to build a breakwater from used tires as raw materials. But the result looks less effective because the construction is damaged. Practically, the attention is needed in the form of a breakwater which is better in terms of raw materials and structures to resist the rate of abrasion. In recent years, the community has submitted proposals for breakwater funding to the regional government of Indramayu, local government of Pabean Udik and private sectors, but there has been no serious response. Therefore, we propose alternative funding to support breakwater construction through crowdsourcing and crowdfunding methods on popular platforms such as kitabisa.com, benihbaik.com, dan berbuatbaik.id. Hopefully, in the middle of 2023, breakwater construction can be built on the coast of Pabean Udik.

Abstract

This article analyzes the formation of Iran’s Look East Policy under the presidency of Ebrahim Raisi by positioning domestic politics as the primary explanatory variable. Departing from approaches that interpret the policy as a reactive response to Western pressure and international sanctions, the article argues that Look East Policy constitutes a structurally produced domestic political outcome. The study employs a layered analytical framework combining ideational power and the bureaucratic politics model within the tradition of Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA), using qualitative library-based research methods. The findings show that the ideological structure constructed by the Supreme Leader shapes the foreign policy legitimacy space (policy space), which is subsequently translated into institutional preferences and consolidated through bureaucratic interactions among the president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the IRGC. This process produces elite consensus that is crystallized through policy formulation, transforming Look East Policy into an official strategic orientation and institutionalizing it through bilateral relations, non-Western multilateralism, and sectoral cooperation. The article concludes that Look East Policy is a policy ideologically conditioned, bureaucratically produced, and institutionally embedded, in which Western external pressure functions as a triggering context, while domestic political structures determine the direction and character of Iran’s foreign policy.
