Abstract

The characteristics of lung tuberculosis is granuloma, which is consisted of lymphocytes andmacrophages that show the interaction between immune cells and M.tb. Granuloma is the organizationprocess which is depend on lymphocytes invasion, adhesion molecules and chemokine fasilitation. Silicosiswhich is caused by silica, can influence granuloma in the lung. The features of granuloma is variationdepend on the elicited agent and immune reaction. The main purpose of this study was to prove thehistopathology differences of  mice lung granuloma caused by M.tb infection,  silica intervention and bothin 3th  and 7th weeks. It was 45 mice Balb-c strain, divided into 3 groups;  P1 got  M.tb infection with H37Rvstrain 105  perml,P2 got silica intervention with 60 micro litre and, P3 got both of M.tb infection and  silica intervention. Termination of each group were held on 3 and 7 weeks of intervention, continued byhistopathology examination. In the histopathology feature, we done semi-quantitative prosedure to measurelung damage by using Dormans scores; perivasculitis, peribronchiolitis, alveolitis and granuloma. Oneway anova to analysis the differences of histopathologycal result among these groups (P< 0,05).  Resultshowed the significant differences  among these group.  In the 3th weeks, we found  mild lung damage werehappened in all groups with granuloma, without necrosic (P1 and P2). In the 7th weeks we found  severe lungdamage in P3 with necrotic and fibrotic granuloma sign, with necrosis in P1, with fibrotic in P2.  Weconcluded the worst lung damage happened in 7th weeks in group which are got M.tb infection and silicaintervention, with granuloma characterictic of necrosic and fibrotic.

Abstract

The use of growth hormone (GH) as cardiovascular disease treatment is still controversial. In thispreliminary study the effect of growth hormone therapy on plasma triglyceride level in dyslipidemia wasexamined. Pre and post control group design study was done using 20 dyslipidemic (total cholesterol >200mg/dL) male rats, age 11–12 month-old. The subjects were divided into four groups, aquadest (P0), GH0.02 IU/day (P1), GH 0.04 IU/day (P2), and GH 0.08 IU/day (P3). All subjects were given high cholesteroldiet for three weeks to achieve dyslipidemic in blood level. Aquadest and GH were injected subcutaneouslyonce daily for two weeks. Triglyceride plasma level was measured on day 22nd and 38th by using colorimetricenzymatic test. The mean of pre test plasma triglyceride level of all groups was 136.30 mg/dL and nosignificant difference was found among the groups (p > 0.05). Growth hormone therapy significantly reducedplasma triglyceride level of P1 by 11.78% (118.82 mg/dL, p < 0.01), P2 by 23.46% (103.41 mg/dL, p < 0.01),and P3 by 35.15% (90.22 mg/dL, p < 0.01). Comparison of  post test data amomg the groups showedsignificant difference (p < 0.01). This study show that growth hormone therapy could reduce plasmatriglyceride level in dyslipidemic rat. However, further research is needed to more understand the effect ofthe therapy on cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract

Background: Estrogen has major role to control LDL levels in woman’s body, therefore if a woman experienced hypoestrogen condition usually during menopause phase, there is an increase of the LDL levels. Anthocyanin has similar structure with isoflavones, which have been widely studied and proven to be estrogenic. One of the food ingredients that is rich in anthocyanin is the peel of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus), so it is hoped that this red dragon fruit peels can be a source of phytoestrogens that can play a role in improving LDL levels in menopausal women. Aim: To determine the effect of red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on Low Density Lipoprotein levels in menopause wistar rats. Method: This study was a purely experimental study with a randomized post-test only control group design with a sample of 27 female wistar rats that had fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study sample was divided into 3 (three) groups with each group consisting of 9 female wistar rats, namely the control group (P0), the ethanol extract of red dragon fruit peels at a dose of 60mg / 200grBB group (P1), and dose 90mg / 200grBB group (P2).Result: There was a significant difference between P0 and P1 so that between P0 and P2, meanwhile comparison between P1 and P2 showed only slight difference. Conclusion: The red dragon peel extract can control LDL levels, therefore it is possible to be a substitute of estrogen endogen in menopausal women.

Abstract

Background: The primary acute damage due to UV radiation is keratinocyte apoptosis or sunburn cell. Previous studies showed that antioxidants inhibit UV damage. Java plum (Syzygium cumini) which is found in Indonesia, was known to have a high concentration of antioxidants. This study was aimed to assess the Java plum ethanol extract cream effects on the number of sunburn cells on the dorsal skin of male Wistar rats that exposed to UV-B. Methods This experimental research was a post-test only control group design that was conducted on 30 male rats. Groups were divided into control, placebo, 5%, 10%, and 20% ethanol extract cream concentrations (P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5, respectively). The number of sunburn cell were then observed and recorded based on visual evaluation of the skin biopsy under a light microscope. Results: The mean results of P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 were 132.67, 98.67, 118.67, 104.00, and 54.67 respectively. The control, placebo, 5%, and 10% ethanol extract cream showed no significant result (p>0.05). In contrast, 20% ethanol extract cream showed a protective effect (p<0.05). Conclusion: Java plum ethanol extract cream with 20% dose could decrease the number of sunburn cells in the skin.

Abstract

Background: Skin aging in menopause women was due to fewer collagen numbers in cells and antioxidants are necessary for inhibiting the process of skin aging due to oxidative stress. Red dragon fruits which plant in Indonesia was known to have a high concentration of antioxidants. This study aimed to assess the ethanol extract of red dragon fruit skin effects on the number of collagens on the skin of female Wistar rats which has been ovariectomized. Methods: This experimental research was a post-test only control group design that was conducted on 30 female Wistar rats. Groups were divided into control (P0), 5% ethanol extract (P1), and 15% ethanol extract concentrations (P2). The dosage was given orally to the 30 female rats and left for observation for 30 days. The number of collagens was observed and calculated on visual evaluation of the skin biopsy under a light microscope. Results: The result showed a significant difference between treatment groups and control (p<0.05). The number of collagen are higher in P2 (83.03 ±4.84) and P1 (77.26 ±5.06) than P0 (57.73 ±5.04). Conclusion: Ethanol extract of red dragon fruit skin could increase the number of collagen in rat skin.

Abstract

Background: Peel of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) is rarely utilized which is usually just thrown away, even though it contains such high antioxidants such as phenols, flavonoids and also anthocyanins.Methods: This study aims to determine the effect of red dragon fruit skin extract (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) on MDA levels of the liver in rats exposed to cigarette smoke. This research is an experimental study with Post-Test Only Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 30 rats aged 3-4 months which were divided into 5 groups each amounting to 6 rats, namely 1 negative control group was not given exposure to cigarette smoke, 1 group of negative cock was exposed to cigarette smoke, 3 treatment groups were given exposure cigarette smoke and administration of red dragon fruit skin extract with doses of 20mg, 40mh, and 80mg for 14 days. The parameters measured were MDA levels of the liver.Results: mean liver MDA level of control group 1 was 3.14 ± 0.15nmol / ml, mean control group 2 was 3.84 ± 0.88 nmol / ml, mean treatment group 1 was 3.78 ± 0.28nmol / ml, group treatment 2 was 3.37 ± 0.69nmol / ml, and treatment group 3 was 3.05 ± 0.50nmol / ml. Significance analysis with One Way ANOVA test shows that the value of F = 2.127 and the value of p = 0.107, where the value of p> 0.05Conclusion: There was no effect of red dragon fruit skin extract (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) on MDA levels in the liver exposed to cigarette smoke.Latar Belakang: Kulit buah naga merah (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) merupakan limbah yang sangat jarang dimanfatkaan, biasanya kulit buah naga merah hanya dibuang begitu saja, padalah mengandung antioksidan yang begitu tinggi seperti fenol, flavonoid dan juga antiosianin.Metode: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak kulit buah naga merah (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) terhadap kadar MDA liver pada tikus yang dipaparkan asap rokok. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan Post-Test Only Control Group Design. Sampel terdiri dari 30 ekor tikus yang berumur 3-4 bulan yang dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok masing-masing berjumlah 6 ekor tikus, yaitu 1 kelompok kontrol negative tidak diberikan paparan asap rokok, 1 kelompok kontol negative diberikan paparan asap rokok, 3 kelompok perlakuan diberikan paparan asap rokok dan pemberian ekstrak kulit buah naga merah dengan dosis 20mg, 40mg dan 80mg selama 14 hari. Parameter yang diukur adalah kadar MDA liver. Hasil: rerata kadar MDA liver kelompok kontrol 1 adalah 3,14 ± 0,15nmol/ml, rerata kelompok kontrol 2 adalah 3,84 ± 0,88 nmol/ml, rerata kelompok perlakuan 1 adalah 3,78 ± 0,28nmol/ml, kelompok perlakuan 2 adalah 3,37 ± 0,69nmol/ml, dan kelompok perlakuan 3 adalah 3,05 ± 0,50nmol/ml. Abstract

Background: The role of both Euphorbia milii and Propolis is to increase the effectiveness in pathological condition of the body part damaged, include renal function in maintaining the homeostasis. That combination into mice which are infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis will change the total number of glomerulus in the kidney.Aim: The study aims to determine the effect of combination tea from Euphorbia milii and Propolis on the number of the glomerulus in mice infected by M. tb.Method: This study confirmed randomized post-test only control group design consisting of 24 mice divided into six groups (G1-G6). E. milli flowers are obtained from flower plantations, in Ketewel, Gianyar, Bali Province took in fresh and dark red sampling. M. tuberculosis used H37Rv strain (ATCC27294) grown on Middlebrook 7H9 liquid medium for two weeks.Result: It was found that Group 3 and Group 5 from the treatment group has the most significant average number of glomerulus which was 13, followed by Group 2 and Group 6 from the control group has the largest average number of glomerulus which was 12. The differences were not significant between groups with P = 0.463 (P <0.05).Conclusion: The Euphorbia milii tea and its combination with Propolis does not affect histological change on the total number of glomerulus in mice infected with M. tb.

Abstract

Kelemahan daya saing industri kosmetik estetik dalam negeri terhadap produk asing terutama disebabkan kurangnya data ilmiah mengenai efikasi produk untuk mendukung daya jualnya. Salah satu produk kosmetika yang sedang dikembangkan adalah masker gel ekstrak kulit manggis. Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan potensi masker ini untuk mencegah penuaan dini kulit akibat sinar matahari. Pada penelitian ini ingin diketahui pengaruhnya terhadap kelenjar sebaseus kulit. Rancangan penelitian eksperimental post test only control group dilakukan pada 27 tikus Wistar yang dipapar sinar UVB 840mJ selama 28 hari. Sampel dibagi ke dalam tiga kelompok, yaitu P0 (kontrol normal), P1 (dipapar sinar UVB dan dioles plasebo), dan P2 (dipapar sinar UVB dan dioles masker). Sampel kulit tikus kemudian diproses untuk pengecatan HE lalu ukuran kelanjar sebaseus dianalisis dengan software image raster. Setelah dilakukan analisis dengan anova satu jalan didapatkan perbedaan bermakna (p<0,05) ukuran kelenjar sebaseus antara kelompok P2 (11,51%) dengan kelompok P0 (3,77%) dan P1 (5,04%), sedangkan P0 dan P1 tidak menunjukkan perbedaan bermakna (p>0,05). Penelitian membuktikan bahwa masker gel ekstrak kulit manggis dapat mencegah peningkatan ukuran kelenjar sebasea akibat paparan sinar matahari. Abstract

AVaginal atrophy is one of the most common health problems in postmenopausal women. The disease is characterized by decreasing layers and maturation index of the vaginal epithelium and an increase in vaginal pH. A decrease in vaginal acidity will increase the susceptibility to infections since acidic pH protects the vagina from pathogens infection. The previous study has proven that phytoestrogens were effective to improve the microstructures of the vaginal, reduce urogenital complaints, and improve vaginal pH. The purple sweet potato (Ipomea batatas L.) which is cultivated in Bali was recognized for its high anthocyanin content and was reported to have phytoestrogen activity. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of purple sweet potato on vaginal pH in an animal model of menopause. The randomized pre-test post-test control group design study was conducted using 36 bilateral ovariectomized female Wistar rats as an animal model of menopause. The animals were divided randomly into a control group (T0) which was given saline and a treatment group (T1) given an ethanolic extract of purple sweet potato 400 mg/day for 30 days. Vaginal pH was measured before treatment, every week during treatment, and after treatment.
