Abstract

The purposes of this research were to identify : 1) impact of production factors, (plantation area, fertilizer, pesticide, number of trees, and labor) on production of coconut nucleus estate, 2)return to scale of coconut nucleus estate, 3) efficiency of production factors used, and 4)farmers’ problems in managing business. This research was conducted in Pulau BurungRegency, Indragiri Hilir District, the only Nucleus Estate of hybrid coconut tree program inIndonesia. Primary data were collected from 90 respondents. Results showed that productionfactors of fertilizer and labor significantly affected production of coconut trees withdetermination coefficient of 79,3 %. Each of these factors influenced the production at differentrate. Total coefficient of production elasticities was 1.307, indicated that production process wasin the area of increasing to scale. However, because marginal product value were 0,081 forfertilizer and 0,193 for labor, further increase of production factor use is not economicallyfeasible. This is due to coconut price which is much less than market price. The farmers’problems are lack of capital to support production, high prices of inputs while coconut price islow. The research recommended that government increases support in term of input subsidies, community development and partnership, farmer credit scheme with low interest, and review ofcurrent predetermined and regulated price of fresh coconut.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors affecting food consumption as carbohydrate sources in the province of West Sumatra. The data used is the data for Socio-Economic Survey of 2011 which is sourced from Statistics of West Sumatra Province. To see the factors that affect food consumption models built carbohydrate Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) were analyzed by the method of Seemingly Unrelated Regresion (SUR). Results of the study showed that the factors that influence food consumption of carbohydrate source is the price of the commodity itself, other commodity prices, education, household income, household mother, spending on consumption and region of residence. Response to price themselves commodities carbohydrate food sources are negative which indicates that all categories of commodities including normal goods. Shows the cross-price response substitution and complementary relationships between each commodity, all revenue Response carbohydrate food commodities is positive, which means that all commodities including staple goods. Increase residents' income to reduce the negative impact of rising food prices carbohydrate source. The strong response to changes in the price of rice to other commodities indicates that policy interventions are still needed in the field of rice. Tubers for food need to be improved so that the availability of these more stable commodity prices in the market because the requested amount is influenced by the price.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to recognize the crumb rubber marketing, price transmission, dan market integration in Kuantan Singingi Regency. The research used survey method to collect primary and secondary data. The analysis instruments used were margin and multiple regression analyses with refer to Nerlove Model. The results showed that the best efficient rubber crum channel was found on markeitng channel which was done by farmers joined together into cooperative marketing group by action system. The elasticity value of price at farmer level transmission showed that price was enough response on price changes in trader level in long term as well as short term. The price response at trader level that was resulted by price changes at the fabric level in long term as well as short term was good. Nevertheless, price at the fabric level was not responsive on price changes of FOB in long term as well as short term. Analysis of market integration showed that market at farmer and trader levels was integrated perfectly in which price changes on one market will be followed by other markets with the same proportion. Althought market structure directed to oligopsony form, transaction process showed more clearly on perfect competition market. It is because the good relationship between farmer and trader. The godd integrattion market was also occurred between market at trader level and market at the fabric

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the dominant factors that respect to household economics of paddy farmers that included production, allocation of work time, income, and expenditure in Sungai Mandau Sub-district, Siak Municipality. The econometric approach using a model of simultaneous equations with Two-Stage Least Square method (2SLS) was used to answer the research goals. The main finding of this research showed that the dominant factors that respect to production are harvest area of paddy and costs of production facilities. Allocation of work time consists of: First, allocation of work time on farming respects the allocation of work time of off-farm and labor force. Second, the hired labor respects to farming income. Third, allocation of work time of off-farm respects to off-farm income, allocation of work time on farming, farmer's work experiences and age of farmers. Income respects to the allocation of work time of off-farm. Expenditure consists of: First, food consumption respects to total income, the number of families, and health spending. Second, non-food consumption respects to total income. Third, education investment respects to total income and the number of school children. Fourth, paddy farming investment respects to total income, harvest area of paddy, and food consumption. Fifth, saving respects to total income, total consumption, education investment, and health spending.
