Abstract

Transportation problem is complex because the growth of road infrastructure is not proportional to the increase in the number of travels. This is indicated by the increasing levels of private vehicle ownership, numer of trips, insufficient of public transport services, and limited road infrastructure. In this study, the pattern of mass transit, as stated in Law No. 22 of 2009, was examined. Analyses were performed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that the variables of Travel Origin and Destination, Travel Patterns, Willingness, and Ability to Pay explained approximately77.0% of the variation in the Guided Busway Needs variable. In addition, Travel Origin and Destination, Travel Patterns, and Willingness and Ability to Pay have positive and significant impact on the Guided Busway Needs. Keywords: mass transit, guided busway, origin destination travel, travel patterns, willingness and ability topay.

Abstract

In this study, traffic accidents occurred on roads in Batu, East Java, were observed. Based on these traffic accident data, a model was built to relate the number of motorcycle accidents with the availability of road shoulders, traffic flow, and traffic speed. The results indicate that the availability of road shoulders potentially reduce the number of motorcycle accidents. Conversely, increasing the speed and traffic flow potentially increase the number of motorcycle traffic accidents on the roads in Batu. Keywords: motorcycle accidents, road shoulders, traffic flow, traffic speed

Abstract

Abstract During road reconstruction period, a negative impact was imposed on road users and the surrounding environment. These impacts are the result of the work zone which is used as working space and road reconstruction. This work zone is potential to influence the drivers stress and to decrease road traffic performance such as travel delays, congestions and road accidents. Guidelines for green (environmentally friendly) infrastructure defined in New Road Construction Concept (NR2C) in European infrastructure vision 2040 concept, can be used to mitigate this negative impact. Twenty projects of Balai V National Roads Improvement in East Java, and Balai VIII in Bali for fiscal year 2013 is used as a case study. Descriptive method used for the discussion of case studies. Management traffic safety in work zones assessed the suitability of the setting up of signs, markings and guardrail. Shift arrangements work during the day (peak hours) or night (off peak hour), is used as an indicator of the negative impact of road users and the environment. The analysis showed that the work zone management in the implementation of national road reconstruction projects toward green (environmentally friendly) construction concept. It is shown from the implementation of safety attributes average 68%, and the implementation of the reconstruction in the off peak hours by 55% of the projects. Kata-kata kunci: konstruksi jalan, zona kerja, dampak negatif, konstruksi hijau.

Abstract

One of the advances in the development of a model of traffic accidents is indicated by the availability of generalized linear models (GLMs) and generalized additive models (GAMs) in the regression analysis. This paper will discuss the motorcycle accident prediction models using GLMs and GAMs on the north-south road corridor in Surabaya. The first part will discuss the model prediction of traffic accidents, as well as providing a brief review related to the use GLMs and GAMs in building models of accidents. Furthermore, application examples of GLMs and GAMs will be presented. To determine the effect of non-linear in each explanatory variable, smoothing the GAMs will be conducted in each variable gradually. Model diagnostic and intrepretations will be done in the final part. The results of the application of GLMs and GAMs indicates that the development of predictive models of motorcycle accidents with statistical methods can be used to diagnose problems in road safety. GAMs produces better models than the GLMs in which its condition without using the Poisson distribution, as shown in the difference in the value of the model parameter R-sq.(Adj), deviance explained, and the GCV score. By using the Poisson distribution with a log link-function, it appears that GLMs and GAMs produce the same model parameter values.

Abstract

The low standard of National road is continuously reconstructed to establish Trans National connectivities. During the reconstruction period, the loss of road user costs and the negative impacts for surrounding environment were inccurred. Predicted losses of road users have not been conducted, so that it is important to be investigated. Initially, road performances were analyzed during road reconstruction. The road performances were analyzed using a descriptive method. Road performance variable includes running costs referred to the Bina Marga guidelines of Pd - T-15 -2005- B. National road reconstruction project in fiscal year 2013 is used as a case study. The results of the analysis are obtained as follows: 1) speed (Vm) can be predicted from the exponential relationship model in which degree of saturation in pre-reconstruction (DSp) is used as a generator variable. This generator variable is predicted declining at 6 km/h (DSp = 0.1);  2) The traffic flow (Qm) is predicted by multiplying the current pre-reconstruction flows with a factor of Fq. Traffic flows is predicted declining by 28% (Fq = 0.72); and 3) The degree of saturation (DSm) is predicted by a factor of Fds and estimated to increase by 30% (Fds = 1.3).

Abstract

Recently, motorcycle population in Indonesia is increasing rapidly. Meanwhile, the number of accidents involving motorcycles is higher than that of other motor vehicles. Based on the problem, it is important to find out a solution so that the road transportation safety can be created. The objective of this study is to model motorcycle accidents on the road. The dependent variable, as a response variable, is the number of motorcycle accidents and the independent variables are traffic volume, speed, lane width, lane number, and shoulder. The road accident data were collected from 18 roads in four areas, including Surabaya City, Malang City, Malang Regency, and Batu City. Modeling analysis employed a Generalized Linear Modeling (GLM) method. The results indicated that the model can be used to describe the actual condition of the road accidents. Moreover, it is also showed that the motorcycle accidents are significantly influenced by volume, speed, lane width, lane number, and shoulder variables. High volume and speed will increase accident risks, but the increase in lane width, lane number, and shoulder will decrease accident risks. Keywords: motorcycle accident, motorcycle accident modeling, road traffic accident
