Abstract

Introduction: Proper medication management is a crucial step in ensuring patient safety and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare services, especially in hospitals. Education on medication management using the DAGUSIBU method (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose) serves as an educational approach to improve the understanding and compliance of healthcare workers and the community. Objective: To improve public understanding of how to use drugs safely and appropriately. Method: The method used was conducted by a pre-test and post-test design involving participants from healthcare workers and pharmacy staff at Ciamis Regional General Hospital. The education was delivered using presentation media and leaflet. Understanding was measured using a questionnaire consisting of multiple-choice questions. Result: These results indicate that the majority of respondents 60% have a good understanding of the material measured in the questionnaire. However, there are around 40% of respondents (categories Sufficient and Less) who show an understanding that still needs to be improved, which could be a concern for further improvement. Conclusion: It is hoped that through this program, the community can implement the DAGUSIBU principle in everyday life to create a healthier and safer environment.

Abstract

Moringa plants (Moringa oleifera L.) are herbal plants that are used as food and alternative medicine because they have nutrients and potential as medicinal plants. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) have antioxidant compounds, so it can be developed into one of the cosmetic preparations. This study aims to determine the formulation and physical evaluation of serum from moringa leaves using a variety of bases. Formulas were made into 3, namely formula 1 HPMC 3%, Carbopol 940 1.5%, and CMC Na 3.5%. Formulation 2 HPMC 2.5%, Carbopol 940 1%, and CMC Na 3%. Formulation 3 HPMC 2%, Carbopol 940 0.5%, and CMC Na 3%. The results showed that formula 3 fulfilled the physical evaluation of serum preparations in the pH test, viscosity test and adhesion test as indicated by the p-value (>0.05). The statistical results of the hedonic test based on color and odor obtained a p-value (>0.05) and the results of the Univariate General Linear Model analysis showed that formula 3 had the highest value of 3.28 on color and 2.16 on odor.

Abstract

The improper use of antibiotics is a major cause of antimicrobial resistance, a serious global health issue. Resistance occurs when bacteria become immune to drugs, making infections harder to treat. One of the main causes is a lack of public understanding regarding how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of antibiotics properly. Outpatients are particularly at risk as they often manage antibiotics independently at home, such as obtaining them without a prescription, stopping treatment prematurely, or saving leftover medication for future use without consulting a doctor. This educational session aimed to inform outpatients on proper antibiotic management to reduce resistance. Activities were conducted through interactive presentations and discussions at Pandega Hospital's outpatient department in Pangandaran. The results showed positive responses and enthusiasm from participants, who actively asked questions and engaged in discussions. Patients gained a clear understanding of the DAGUSIBU Antibiotics concept, including obtaining antibiotics with a prescription, using them as directed, storing them safely, and disposing of unused medication responsibly. This session successfully improved patients’ knowledge and awareness about proper antibiotic management, representing an essential step in preventing antimicrobial resistance. Its success can serve as a model for similar programs in other areas, supporting safer and more responsible antibiotic use.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Toothpaste is a semi-solid preparation that contains abrasives, cleansers, and additives to clean teeth without damaging oral tissues. Clove flower (Syzygium aromaticum L.) is known to contain eugenol, saponins, and flavonoids, which are analgesic. The purpose of this study was to make and evaluate toothpaste preparations from clove flower extract. Method: The research was conducted experimentally with toothpaste formulation using variations in Na CMC concentration as a binder: 2%, 1%, and 0.5%. Evaluation included organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, foam formation, and physical stability. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Result: All formulas met the evaluation standards. Formula I was closest to the positive control in organoleptic, having an average viscosity of 9600 mPa.s and spreadability of 5.2 cm. Formula II showed the best pH with an average of 8.74. All three formulas produced foam well. Physical stability for 4 weeks showed that the texture and pH remained stable. Conclusion: Na CMC affects the viscosity and spreadability of toothpaste preparations. Formulas with the right concentration of Na CMC can produce herbal toothpaste that is stable and meets quality requirements.

Abstract

Introduction Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) are a vegetable with a very high nutritional content, including vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols that act as antioxidants. These nutritional benefits make moringa leaves very beneficial in supporting health and growth, especially in children who are in the developmental phase. Stunting, which is a condition of failure to grow in children due to chronic malnutrition, is a serious public health problem. Therefore, the use of moringa leaves as part of children's diets is expected to help prevent stunting. Objective The objective of this outreach program is to provide a comprehensive understanding to the community about the benefits of moringa leaves in maintaining children's health, particularly in the prevention of stunting. By increasing community knowledge about the importance of a balanced diet, it is hoped that they can become more aware of the role of nutritious food in child growth and development. Methods Outreach was conducted using a lecture method involving interaction between the outreach worker and participants. The material presented included: Explaining what stunting is, its impact on child growth and development, and its contributing factors such as lack of nutritional intake and maternal health. Describing the nutritional content of moringa leaves, such as vitamins A, C, and minerals like calcium and iron, as well as bioactive compounds that can help boost the immune system and support child growth. Participants were invited to watch a video tutorial on making moringa leaf pudding from YouTube together. In this session, they witnessed the steps of making pudding, from selecting fresh moringa leaves, processing the leaves into powder, to the steps of mixing ingredients and cooking. And inviting participants to discuss and ask questions, so they can better understand the practical application of the information provided. Results The results of the outreach program showed an increase in participants' knowledge about stunting, its contributing factors, and the health benefits of moringa leaves. Most participants admitted that they were previously unaware of the importance of moringa leaves as a source of nutrition. After the outreach, participants seemed more enthusiastic about trying to incorporate moringa leaves into their daily meals. There were also some participants who shared their experiences after starting to include moringa leaves in their family's diet. Conclusion Outreach on the utilization of moringa leaves to prevent stunting successfully increased community awareness and knowledge about the importance of nutrition in child growth. With a better understanding of the benefits and how to process moringa leaves, it is hoped that the community can integrate it into their daily diets. This will not only help prevent stunting, but also improve overall health. Through this effort, it is hoped that future generations can grow optimally and healthily.
