Abstract

Plastic is a synthetic polymerization product material, plastic is very difficult to decompose where the degradation of the plastic itself usually takes decades by nature. According to the Ministry of Environment and Health and the Ministry of Industry, the amount of waste in 2016 reached 6.25 million tons per year. This makes plastic waste one of the causes of environmental pollution. Recycling plastic waste is a solution to the problem of plastic waste which is increasingly polluting the environment. Realizing the importance of plastic recycling. Then a recycling tool will be made or changing the shape of plastic to be more useful, such as recycling plastic into paving blocks. Recycling plastic waste into paving blocks is expected to be a solution to environmental pollution due to plastic waste. Therefore a paving block printing tool made from plastic and sand is designed and produced which can reach a temperature of 397 0C, the paving block printing machine can make paving blocks made from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) plastic waste or plastic pipes. This tool can melt as much as 1.2 kg of plastic waste, namely 1 (one) paving block made from plastic waste and sand. The resulting paving blocks are in the form of bricks with sizes according to SNI Number 03-0691-1998 with dimensions of 10 cm x 20 cm x 6 cm.

Abstract

Hydrokinetic water turbines do not require high water pressure (head) to work.Another advantage of the Darrieus turbine is that it is less sensitive to turbulencebut sensitive to flow direction. Among some forms of turbine turbine turbinegeometry, straight-angled geometry (or H-Darrieus) is more popular due to easierfabrication and simpler construction. The number of blades using the NACA type0012 H-rotor has the best self-starting effect but not for all azimuth blade positions.If the blade is fixed and unregulated then the angle of charge will change at anytime depending on the position of the blade which consequently alters thedynamic force of the water to the blade and therefore tends to occur in the lowtorque of the tubin and decrease the turbine effiency. One disadvantage of theDarrieus turbine is its low self-starting torque. So the problem in this research ishow the turbine produced performance with variation of the number of blades.The study was conducted to analyze the perforamance of low-speed darrieusturbines shown by self-starting characteristics, dynamic torque, power, andefficiency produced by turbines. The test rig comprises two main components: amodel of stream flow made of acrylic and a model of the Darrieus turbine. Rivermodels from upstream shelters, canals and downstream water reservoirs. Waterfrom upstream flows into the runner through the incoming side. Then waterflowed into the downstream storage basin. In the construction of this model is notmunggunakan draft tube. The runner house has a fully enclosed top casing with nodraft tube and wall, the water flow rate and Head of water level are set by the feedwater pump. The difference between the water level in the upstream reservoir andthe water level in the canal is kept constant. Once the above is achieved then it canbe tested. The shaft rotation is measured by the rotation sensor and the shafttorque force is measured using a load cell. Abstract

Laundry workers are required to be able to fold quite a lot of clothes in a fairly short time and neatly. Based on this, an innovation is needed in terms of folding clothes that can help household chores and the UMKM scale laundry industry in terms of folding clothes. The main aim of the research is to create an Arduino-based automatic clothes folding device. Arduino Uno is a microcontroller that is often used in making prototypes of electronic circuits which are useful for making things easier for users. Making an Arduino-based module requires a circuit schematic which is useful for making things easier when making tools. Electronic circuit schematics are needed as a guide in making electronic circuits. The electronic circuit schematic should be designed or drafted first before carrying out the process of making the electronic circuit. Testing of this servo motor is carried out by starting the rotation of the servo motor from an angle of 0⁰ to a rotation of 180⁰. The test results can be concluded that the three servo motors used are in good condition. Having an automatic clothes folding tool can help with daily housework and help laundry entrepreneurs in folding clothes neatly, saving time and energy. The time required to fold a short-sleeved t-shirt is 3.56 seconds and a short-sleeved shirt is 3.66 seconds

Abstract

Orphanages as Child Welfare Institutions have a very important role in improving children's education, especially life skills as provisions for facing competition in the world of work. The lack of life skills training received by Muhammadiyah Orphanage children due to limited funds is one of the reasons for providing refrigerator service skills training to orphanage children. The choice of refrigerator service training is because almost every household has a refrigerator for storing food and drinks so that they last a long time. This is certainly a market share that is quite promising in providing refrigerator service services. The aim of this program is to provide life skills to orphanage children so that they have the ability to work and become entrepreneurs in providing refrigerator servicing and become a source of income for the orphanage. This method is implemented by providing direct training in the form of theory and practice with training material consisting of refrigerator working mechanisms, introduction and use of the equipment used, and refrigerator repair practices including measuring pressure and electric current, cutting and welding copper pipes, vacuuming and filling refrigerant. as well as compressor replacement. The results obtained by training participants are understanding the working mechanism and the ability to detect damage and repair the refrigerator.

Abstract

Masalah sampah plastik menjadi prioritas penting pemerintah khususnya dilingkungan perkotaan yang memiliki jumlah pertumbuhan penduduk yang semakin meningkat diiringi peningkatan aktivitas pembangunan. Salah satu penanganan dari pemerintah untuk mengurangi timbulan sampah plastik yaitu dengan mendirikan bank sampah. Bank Sampah merupakan sistem dan tempat pengumpulan sampah kering dan dipilah yang masih memiliki nilai ekonomi serta memiliki manajemen seperti perbankan tapi yang ditabung bukan uang melainkan sampah. Mitra dalam pengabdian ini adalah Bank Sampah Sejahtera, Medan Deli. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan maksud menerapkan mesin pengolah sampah yaitu mesin pirolisis yang dapat mengubah sampah plastik menjadi minyak plastik sebagai alternatif minyak tanah yang masih banyak digunakan masyarakat berpenghasilan rendah di Kecamatan Medan Deli. Metode dalam kegiatan memberikan sosialisasi penerapan teknologi mesin pirolisis dalam memberikan pengetahuan terkait jenis/kode plastik yang dapat digunakan dalam mesin pirolisis serta pelatihan manajemen operasional dan K3 untuk memastikan operasi yang aman dan efisien. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah pembuatan satu unit mesin pirolisis kapasitas 15 kg sampah plastik, tersusunnya jadwal operasional mesin pirolisis, SOP (Standart Operasional dan Procedure) penggunaan mesin pirolisis. Kegiatan ini juga memberi manfaat bagi para dosen dan mahasiswa Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara untuk dapat mengimplementasikan ilmu pengetahuan yang dimilikinya kepada khalayak umum.

Abstract

This study compares the effect of filler metal and welding current of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) on Aluminium alloy Al6061-T6. Three different filler metals, ER4043, ER4047, and ER5356, were used with the GTAW welding process. The welded joints were created at three different welding currents (120, 130, and 140 A) by the GMAW with filler metals ER5356. Optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is used to analyze the surface fracture of impact test welding joints. The results showed that the GMAW process had the most optimum Ultimate Tensile Strenght (UTS) compared to the GTAW welding joint, especially for welding current 130 A. The impact strength of ER4047 filler metal with the GTAW process is higher than other joints (61 J/cm2). Optimum conditions were obtained by the GMAW welding process using a welding current of 130 A with maximum tensile strength and impact strength of 350 MPa and 53 J/cm2, respectively. SEM analysis showed obtained Mg2Si a globular morphology in ER4047 and ER5356 filler metals, and the dimples fracture is indicated at all joints with the GMAW and GTAW processes. Furthermore, increasing welding current by the GMAW process causes higher angular distortion, reduced vickers hardness but does not significantly affect the weld bead. Overall, the GMAW produces better physical and mechanical properties of weld joint compared to GTAW for all types of filler metals but results in greater angular distortion

Abstract

Abstrak: Tanaman sagu (Metroxylon sp.) merupakan komoditas pangan kaya karbohidrat yang menjadi bahan pokok di beberapa wilayah Indonesia. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini melibatkan 10 orang peserta petani sagu di Desa Durian Lingga. Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan teknis (hardskill) petani dalam pengolahan limbah sagu menjadi pakan ternak dan pembuatan alat pencacah, serta mengembangkan kemampuan manajerial (softskill) dalam pemasaran produk. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui ceramah interaktif, pelatihan praktik langsung, focus group discussion (FGD), dan pendampingan intensif. Untuk sistem evaluasi dilakukan dengan Observasi langsung dan Uji kinerja alat Pencacah tersebut. Selain sebagai sumber pangan, sagu memiliki multi-fungsi karena seluruh bagian tanamannya dapat dimanfaatkan. Pelatihan pengolahan sagu menjadi pakan ternak ini menjadi solusi strategis untuk mengatasi masalah limbah pertanian sekaligus meningkatkan pendapatan petani melalui diversifikasi produk. Namun, petani sagu di Desa Durian Lingga masih menghadapi kendala berupa kurangnya pengetahuan teknis dan keterampilan manajerial. Kegiatan ini penting untuk membangun kemandirian petani dalam mengelola sumber daya lokal secara berkelanjutan. Tim pengabdian masyarakat melaksanakan pelatihan praktis yang mencakup: pengolahan sagu menjadi pakan ternak, pembuatan alat pencacah sagu, serta manajemen pemasaran. Dampak jangka panjangnya adalah peningkatan ekonomi sekitar 85% masyarakat melalui pengoptimalan potensi lokal dan penguatan kelembagaan petani berbasis agribisnis.Abstract: Sago plants (Metroxylon sp.) are a carbohydrate-rich food commodity that is a staple food in several regions of Indonesia. This community service activity involved 10 sago farmer participants in Durian Lingga Village. This PKM activity aims to improve farmers' technical skills (hard skills) in processing sago waste into animal feed and making shredders, as well as developing managerial skills (soft skills) in product marketing. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through interactive lectures, direct practice training, focus group discussions (FGD), and intensive mentoring. For system evaluation, direct observation and performance testing of the shredder tool are carried out. In addition to being a food source, sago has multiple functions because all parts of the plant can be utilized. This training in processing sago into animal feed is a strategic solution to overcome the problem of agricultural waste while increasing farmers' income through product diversification. However, sago farmers in Durian Lingga Village still face obstacles in the form of a lack of technical knowledge and managerial skills. This activity is important to build farmer independence in managing local resources sustainably. The community service team conducted practical training that included: processing sago into animal feed, making sago shredders, and marketing management. The long-term impact is an increase in the economy of around 85% of the community through harmonization of local potential and strengthening of agribusiness-based farmer institutions.
