Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is a vast horticultural plant hydroponics are grown, but improved hydroponic lettuce using Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) is not optimal to replace inorganic fertilizers. The aims of this research are to determine the interaction of giving LOF with the two cultivars of lettuce, to get the optimum concentration of LOF for maximum yield base on the right concentration, and to find out the best cultivars has the best yield. This research was conducted in June to September 2019 at the Agrofarm Hidroponik 55 Cupak Tangah, Water Laboratory of Environmental Engineering Study Program, Instrumentation and Control Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering Study Program, Nutrition and Nonruminant Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Faculty, Andalas University, Padang City. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 2 factors, namely lettuce cultivars (Grand Rapid and Green Coral 710) and fertilizer concentration (liquid organic fertilizer and inorganic ab-mix fertilizer) with consisted on 6 levels. There were 12 combinations and 3 replications resulting in 36 treatment units. The data were analyzed statistically using the F test at the 5% level followed by a Dunnett test. The results showed that there was no interaction between type and concentration of fertilizer with the two cultivars of lettuce. LOF being given on the lettuce products height, number of leaves, weights of plant, hardness of leaves lettuce is lower than of the one given inorganic fertilizer but LOF giving products relative level of fiber is similar to the giving inorganic fertilizer. Grand Rapid cultivars has higher and harder than Green Coral but it doesn‟t show a real difference in result on weights, number of leaves and fiber‟s level

Abstract

High yielding corn breeding program is an alternative to meet national needs. Characterization is one of the essential stages in a corn breeding program. This research aims to evaluate agronomic characters and yield potential of the parent lines to be used as a basis for the hybrid variety development program. This research was conducted from May to October 2023 at the Koto Tingga Experimental Station, Padang, West Sumatra Province. There are 5 promising corn lines used in this study with a one-factor completely randomized block design with 3 replications, therefore there were15 experimental units. The results shows that lines significantly affected on all characters except the number of cobs per plant and yield potential. The Mz1 line had the highest yield potential (3,7 tons ha-1), followed by the Mz5 line (3,4 tons ha-1). These two lines have relatively medium plant height (221,6–246,3 cm), early harvest maturity (94,2–99,9 DAP), and medium to high 100–grain weight (28,4–37,9 g). These two lines have the potential to be further developed as crossing parental.

Abstract

Hanjeli (Coix lacryma –jobi L) adalah tanaman serealia yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai pangan dan pakan. Penelitian eksplorasi dan karakterisasi hanjeli bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi karakter fenotipik hanjeli di Kabupaten Limapuluh Kota sebagai data awal dan untuk pelestarian plasma nutfah hanjeli. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari sampai bulan April 2016, diawali dengan eksplorasi dan dilanjutkan dengan karakterisasi morfologi hanjeli. Data dari setiap sampel dianalisis secara statistik kemudian dibandingkan dengan sampel lainnya. Data morfologi ditampilkan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pada 74 aksesi yang diperoleh dari delapan kecamatan di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota memiliki bentuk batang bulat dengan permukaan licin dan arah tumbuh tegak, daun tanaman hanjeli merupakan daun lengkap, bunga hanjeli merupakan bunga sempurna tidak lengkap karena tidak memiliki bagian calix dan carolla.

Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities that become alternative foods as a source of carbohydrates other than wheat, rice, and corn. One of the efforts to increase potato production can be done through the selection of quality seeds. The selection of G1 generation potato seeds is used because it has not undergone deteoration so that the quality of the seeds is still maintained. This study aims to determine the effect of G1 tuber weight on the growth and yield of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) G2 Granola varieties. This research was conducted at the Green House of the Pusat Alih Teknologi dan Pengembangan Kawasan Pertanian (PATPKP) of Andalas University located in Jorong Galagah, Nagari Alahan Panjang, Lembah Gumanti District, Solok Regency from August to November 2023. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 levels of treatment, namely the weight of G1 tubers (5-15, 16-30, 31-45, and 46-60) with 3 replications, where there were 12 experimental units. The data obtained were statistically analyzed with the F test at a real level of 5% and if the effect was real, it was continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) with a level of 5%. The results showed that there was an influence of the weight of G1 tubers on the growth and yield of potato plants of the G2 Granola variety. G1 tuber weights of 46-60 g give the best results in increasing plant height growth, number of shoots, stem diameter, and fresh weight of tubers per plant.

Abstract

Maize is a leading commodity in the agricultural industry. Efforts to increase maize seed production and quality are very important, considering the important role of maize commodities in the global and local food systems. This study aims to evaluate the production results of 20 single-cross maize hybrid combinations through the analysis of agronomic traits and productivity results. The experiment was conducted using a randomized block design with three replications in 60  plots. The agronomic characters observed included cob length, cob diameter, number of seed rows per cob, and seed weight per cob. The Genotype R hybrid combination stands out as a superior variety with the highest productivity, supported by strong agronomic characteristics. Meanwhile, the Genotype T hybrid shows the lowest performance, highlighting the importance of developing varieties suited to specific environmental conditions. This research makes a significant contribution to agricultural innovation in Indonesia, especially in improving food security and productivity of the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Rice cultivation in Indonesia involves different types of rice, including red rice, which is known to have higher nutritional value compared to white rice. However, the germination rate of red rice seeds has decreased due to poor storage conditions. Nature Growth Regulators play a critical role in the success of seed germination, seedling establishment and subsequent plant growth. To improve the quality of red rice seeds, natural growth regulators can be used. In a recent study, researchers aimed to determine the best combination of natural growth regulators and concentration level for germination of red rice line. This research was conducted from July to October 2023 at the seed technology and agronomy laboratories of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas. This is a factorial experiment consisting of two factors arranged in random groups design and repeated four times. The first factor was the type of natural growth regulators, namely young coconut water and shallot extract. The second factor was the concentration level, namely 0%, 35%, 70%. The data were analyzed using the F-test with a 5% level of significance. If significant differences were found, Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) was conducted at a 5% level. The observation parameters for the germination test carried out were the maximum growth potential (%), seed germination (%), and hard seeds (%). The application of young coconut water on concentration 70% gave the best percentage of maximum growth potential and was not different with shallot extract on concentration 70%. The application of young coconut water on concentration 70% gave the best percentage of seed germination compare to other treatment.

Abstract

Jamblang merupakan salah satu buah lokal Indonesia yang keberadaannya sudah jarang ditemukan. Jamblang dikenal oleh masyarakat Sumatera Barat khususnya Kota Padang sebagai jambu kaliang. Polen merupakan organ generative jantan dari tanaman yang berfungsi sebagai sarana utama pengalir gen pada persilangan spesies. Fertilitas adalah kemampuan polen atau bakal buah untuk tumbuh normal membentuk benih. Sedangkan sterilitas adalah kegagalan proses pembuahan karena ketidakmampuan pollen atau bakal buah untuk membentuk biji. Viabilitas polen merupakan persentasi polen yang akan menyelesaikan perkecambahan dan membentuk tabung sari (pollen tube). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatahui persentase polen tanaman jamblang yang fertile dan viable yang berguna bagi kegiatan pemuliaan tanaman. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode pewrnaan dengan larutan bromothymol blue untuk mengamati fertilitas polen, dan pengujian vibilitas polen dengan metode Brewbaker dan Kwack (1964). Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan diketahui bahwa terdapat polen yang fertile pada semua genotype tanaman, akan tetapi tidak ada satupun polen yang mampu untuk berkecambah secara in vitro.

Abstract

Benih yang sudah disimpan lama biasanya akan mengalami kemunduran, sehingga perlu dilakukan pengujian viabilitas dan vigor kembali. Salah satu metode yang sudah dikeluarkan ISTA adalah uji daya hantar listrik (DHL), namun baru beberapa komoditi yang divalidasi. Untuk itu, perlu dilakukan kepada benih padi untuk mendapatkan metode yang tepat pada pengujian viabilitas dan vigor benih dengan pengujian yang lebih efektif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan metode uji daya hantar listrik yang tepat untuk benih padi. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada Bulan Maret-April 2022 di Laboratorium Teknologi Benih Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Andalas. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) satu faktor yaitu varietas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa varietas memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap daya berkecambah (DB), uji hitng pertama (FCT), uji nilai indeks (IVT), uji muncul tanah (SET), dan nilai daya hantar listrik (metode uji jumlah benih 50 butir dan volume rendaman 100 ml aquadest).

Abstract

Soybeans (Glycine max L.) are a type of leguminous food crop that is important as a source of protein and vegetable oil, making them a good potential for human growth. Efforts that can be made to increase production and productivity while reducing imports and soybean development include the assembly of superior varieties through tissue culture, with regeneration through somatic embryogenesis. Somatic embryos that have been produced are matured to obtain seedlings by adding activated charcoal. This research aims to determine the effect and the appropriate dosage of activated charcoal for the germination of somatic embryos of soybeans. The research was conducted in the Tissue Culture Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang, from May to August 2023. The research was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatment levels of activated charcoal dosage, namely 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 g/l. The data were analyzed using a 5% level F test, and if the calculated F was greater than the Pr(>F), it was followed by a post hoc test using Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results of the research show that the addition of activated charcoal to the media can germinate somatic embryos of soybean plants. In the media containing 2 g/l of activated charcoal, seedlings emerged at 27.15 days after sowing (DAS), and 96.67% of somatic embryos germinated.  Keywords: Activated charcoal, germination, somatic embryo, soybean INTISARIKedelai (Glycine max L.) merupakan tanaman pangan jenis polong polongan yang penting sebagai sumber protein dan minyak nabati, sehingga memiliki potensial yang baik untuk pertumbuhan tubuh manusia. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan produksi dan produktivitas dalam menekan jumlah impor dan pengengembangan kedelai yaitu dengan perakitan varietas unggul melalui kultur jaringan yang regenerasinya melalui embriogenesis somatik. Embrio somatik yang telah dihasilkan dilakukan maturasi untuk mendapatkan kecambah dengan metode penambahan arang aktif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dan dosis arang aktif yang tepat untuk perkecambahan embrio somatik kedelai. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Kultur Jaringan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Andalas Padang, pada Mei sampau Agustus 2023. Penelitian disususn dalam Rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 taraf perlakukan dengan dosis arang aktif 1, 1,5, 2, 2,5, dan 3 g/l. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji F taraf 5%, jika F hitung lebih besar dari Pr(>F) maka dilanjutkan dengan uji lanjut dengan menggunakan Duncan Multipel Range Test (DMRT) pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pemberian arang aktif pada media dapat mengecambakan embrio somatik tanaman kedelai. Pada media yang mengandung 2 g/l arang aktif menunjukan waktu muncul kecambah pada 27,15 HST dan 96,67% embrio somatik berkecambah. Kata Kunci: Arang aktif, perkecambahan, embrio somatik, kedelai
