Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to facilitate the needs of the Satya Wacana Christian 1 Kindergarten students in Salatiga as an effort to introduce kindergarten students to computers. Students usually only know cell phones or tablets but rarely use computers. This training activity was attended by kindergarten students with an age range of 5-6 years and was carried out in four stages, namely the planning stage, the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and the evaluation stage. The activity involved a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Information Technology, Satya Wacana Christian University as activity facilitators and three teachers from Satya Wacana Christian 1 Kindergarten. This program was conducted at the Computer Laboratory of the Faculty of Information Technology, Satya Wacana Christian University, which included introducing computer equipment, opening websites, and practicing using a mouse through online educational games. The online educational games used in this activity are mixing colors, counting, getting to know water transportation, getting to know 2D shapes, knowing numbers, and assembling puzzles. The activity went well, where the students could recognize and operate computers, especially using the mouse, and learn through the online educational games.

Abstract

Control and monitoring systems that use the Internet-of-Things (IoT) can be found in everyday life, for example, in smart home applications, smart transportation, and smart cities. IoT-based monitoring of environmental conditions both indoors and outdoors is generally carried out to reduce the risk of unwanted events. One example of an unwanted event is a fire. Fires can occur in houses, office buildings, rice fields, or forests. In order to help provide early warning of a flame that can cause a fire, this study aims to design and implement an IoT-based fire detection and warning system using the NodeMCU ESP8266 and a flame sensor. The sensor used is an infrared sensor that will detect infrared light radiation coming from a fire. The test results show that the system successfully detects the presence of fire up to 50 cm from the fire sensor and can be monitored via thinger.io. Additionally, notifications from thinger.io via e-mail and Telegram to users were successfully executed.

Abstract

Perpustakaan sekolah dibangun oleh komponen sarana prasarana perpustakaan, pengelola peprustakaan dan kepala sekolah. Perpustakaan Sekolah Anak Terang Bethany Salatiga, membutuhkan sentuhan pengelolaan perpustakan secara profesional serta penerapan Teknologi Informasi. Program pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengatasi permasalahan Sumber Daya Manusia dengan memberikan pelatihan klasifikasi pustaka dan pelatihan pengelolaan perpustakaan berbasis Teknologi Informasi dengan penerapan SLiMS (Senayan Lybrary Management System). Hasil dari program ini Perpustakaan Sekolah Anak Terang Bethany Salatiga lebih mudah dalam penelusuran dan pengelolaan pustaka serta kemudahan anak-anak didik dalam mengakses buku-buku perpustakaan.

Abstract

Deteksi kesalahan pada data yang dikirimkan melalui saluran komunikasi sangat penting untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat dan sistem komunikasi yang handal. Salah satu kode yang populer dan banyak digunakan sebagai kode pendeteksi kesalahan adalah Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengimplementasikan encoder dan decoder CRC-16 dengan polinomial 0x8005 pada platform Arduino IoT. Penghitungan nilai CRC-16 dilakukan menggunakan algoritma yang memanfaatkan tabel pencarian. Algoritma berbasis tabel pencarian dipilih karena kecepatannya dalam menghitung nilai CRC dari data masukan. Hasil implementasi encoder dan decoder kemudian diuji menggunakan dua board Arduino yang mengirimkan data secara serial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa decoder pada sisi penerima dapat mendeteksi kesalahan pada data yang dikirimkan, dan encoder pada sisi pengirim dapat menghitung nilai CRC dari data masukan dengan benar sesuai spesifikasi kode CRC-16. Waktu yang dibutuhkan encoder untuk menghitung nilai CRC-16 dari data input dengan panjang yang bervariasi menunjukkan bahwa data input dengan panjang 2 karakter (16 bit) dan 128 karakter (1024 bit) masing-masing membutuhkan waktu 0,016 milidetik dan 0,72 milidetik.

Abstract

Internet-of-Things (IoT)-based monitoring and control systems have been widely used in daily life, for example, in smart cities, smart homes (or home automation), and intelligent transportation applications. One example of the application of IoT in smart cities and smart homes is the air quality monitoring system. Monitoring air quality, both indoors and outdoors, is essential for health. This study aims to design and implement an IoT-based air quality monitoring system. The hardware in this system uses the Wemos D1 Mini board, the MQ-9 gas sensor to measure carbon monoxide (CO) gas levels, and the MQ-135 gas sensor to measure carbon dioxide (CO2) gas levels. An Android-based application is also implemented to access and display the results of air quality measurements by the system stored in the cloud database (Firebase). System testing is carried out using smoke from burning paper at varying distances from the sensors. The system test results show that the implemented system can measure CO gas levels in the room from 7 ppm to 38 ppm. The measurement results for CO2 gas levels in the room are between 200 ppm to 1000 ppm.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence has given a competitive advantage and can increment competition and benefit or Return on Venture in Computerized Showcasing. Abstract

The current generation WiFi technology, WiFi 6/6E, is based on the IEEE 802.11ax standard. The IEEE 802.11ax standard introduces several new features that make WiFi 6 superior to its predecessors, for example, 1024-QAM modulation and 6 GHz frequency band for WiFi 6E. This study aims to study the IEEE 802.11ax WiFi 6 standard, simulate an IEEE 802.11ax WiFi 6 network, and observe the throughput achieved in the 6 GHz frequency band using various payload sizes. The simulation is carried out using ns-3, a network simulator for various network models such as Ethernet, WiFi, and 4G LTE. The network topology used in the simulation consists of an access point (AP) and a client station (STA). The simulation results show that payload size significantly affects the network throughput. Simulations with a payload size of 64 and 1500 bytes, at a channel bandwidth (CBW) of 160 MHz and a guard interval (GI) of 800 ns, produce a throughput of 51 Mbps and 766.536 Mbps, respectively.

Abstract

Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is a modulation scheme used by digital communication systems to obtain high data rates in bandwidth-limited channels. M-ary QAM schemes with M values greater than 256 are currently used by wireless network standards, such as WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 (final standard will be released in 2024), which use the 1024-QAM and 4096-QAM modulation schemes, respectively. With the continuous development of technology for digital communication systems, both wireline and wireless, it is essential to research regarding advanced modulation schemes. This study discusses the simulation of the 1024-QAM and 4096-QAM modulation schemes using MATLAB software to compare the performance of the two modulation schemes in data transmission through the AWGN channel without using an error control code. The simulation results show that 4096-QAM is superior to 1024-QAM but requires higher Eb/N0 and SNR values. The Eb/N0 value required by the 4096-QAM to achieve a bit error ratio (BER) of 10-4 is 31 dB, while the 1024-QAM requires an Eb/N0 value of 26 dB.

Abstract

Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier (UFMC) is a multi-carrier modulation scheme that is an alternative to the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme currently used in 4G communication systems and wireless local area networks (WLAN). The weakness of OFDM lies in the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) value and out-of-band (OOB) emission which can cause interference between carriers. UFMC is one of the schemes used to overcome the weaknesses of OFDM. This research aims to study the performance of UFMC for data transmission on AWGN channel with 256-QAM, 1024-QAM, and 4096-QAM modulation. In addition, 256-point, 512-point, and 1024-point FFTs were also used to see the effect on the achievable bit error rate (BER) and PAPR value. The simulation results show that for all simulated FFT sizes and QAM values, 256-QAM produces the lowest BER value. Using a 1024-point FFT, a BER of 10-3 can be achieved with an SNR of 20 dB. The lowest PAPR value obtained in the simulation is 7.1891 dB.

Abstract

The government is very concerned about the threshold value of human hearing that causes permanent noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), such as noise caused by public transportation (bemo) in Kupang. This research aims to increase the awareness of the bemo user in Kupang to prevent hearing loss due to noise from bemo audio devices. Noise measurements due to public transportation are usually carried out outside the vehicle, for example, on the street, but in this study, measurements were carried out inside the vehicle (bemo). Data was obtained from (1) Data on sound intensity in public transport taken manually using a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) meter and (2) Data on the working hours of the drivers taken manually by asking how long they drive in a day. The results of  of each route and the average of  of eight routes showed a sound intensity above the threshold set by the government, i.e., 70 dB. Routes 1 and 3 are bemo routes that need attention because they have maximum sound intensity of more than 100 dB and are included in the Very Loud category. Meanwhile, the other routes are included in the Loud category. Furthermore, the average time a driver stays in a bemo daily is 13.5 hours, which concluded that all drivers are at risk of hearing loss. Therefore, special attention is needed from the government because this can result in driver hearing loss.   Keywords: Bemo; Kupang; Noise-induced hearing loss; Public transportation; Sound intensity
