Abstract

This study attempts to examine empirical evidence of the firms’ financial performances conducting acquisition at the Indonesian Stock Exchange. A sample of 22 firms undertaking acquisition during 2007-20010 is examined. The t-test for mean difference is employed to examine the performance for the period prior to and after the acquisition. The results show that the firms’ liquidity ratio is not significantly different for the periods before and after acquisition. Total debt to total assets ratio and total debt to equity ratio are significantly different. In particular, the average of these two ratios is higher in the period after the acquisition. This study also documents that the firm activity ratio, measured as total assets turnover, is indifferent between the periods. In addition, the firms’ return on investment and return on equity is lowering after acquisition and the difference is significant. Abstract

The banking sector as one of the economic drivers plays an important role in society. Over time, bank operations did not only raise funds from the public but were more complex. The development of the banking industry can be seen from the number of banks in Indonesia that have spurred the level of competition. Of course, the bank must pay attention to its health. The use of bank soundness level parameters or RGEC combined with clusters is interesting to study. By using the cluster method, banks can be classified based on the parameters of their health level. This study aims to analyze the RGEC-based bank grouping classification generated by the Fuzzy C-Means and Fuzzy Gustafson Kessel clustering analysis using financial ratio data on 80 conventional banks in Indonesia. The software used in this study is Matlab r2015b. The results showed that the FCM clustering had a smaller standard deviation than FGK so that the first cluster in the FCM showed that the banks were in good condition compared to the other clusters even though the overall condition of banks in Indonesia was good when viewed from their financial performance.

Abstract

Waining Jaya.

Abstract

Purpose – This study is trying to examine whether there is significant stock prices and volume of shares traded on the cum-dividend date, the last day where shareholders will still be entitled to receive dividends. Design/methodology/approach – This study employs an event study methodology to test the hypotheses. The population of this study are all companies paying dividends continuously from 2014 to 2016 at Indonesia stock exchange. The sample consists of 118 companies. Abnormal returns are measured by deducting real return over expected return. The expected return is derived using the single index model. Findings – Employing the event study methodology, the study finds that there is positive significant abnormal returns on the cum-dividend date. There is also significant difference of abnormal returns and trading volume activity between cum-dividend date and after cum-dividend date. Research limitations/implications – This study does not examine the behavior of stock prices with-in industry in the manufacturing sector. As there are three different industries in the manufacturing sector, one industry may have unique characteristic or extreme behavior compared to the others. In addition, this study uses the Single Index Model in estimating expected return. The model is selected mainly due to simplicity reason. Practical implications – The findings reported in this study could benefit investors in understanding the behavior of stock prices around cum-dividend date and this could be used as an investment strategy. Investors may obtain significant positive abnormal returns by using the cum-dividend date event. Originality/value – There are many theories on dividend proposed by scholars. One of the theory suggests that dividend can be used as a signal about the quality of the firm. If the extent of dividend matters, the investor could use the dividend as their signal for investment in the capital market. This study could be the first in Indonesia setting that examines the price movement around cum-dividend date

Abstract

The industry that has the potential to be developed and produce export-worthy products in Banyuwangi district is the coconut sugar processing industry. This industry is generally managed by craftsmen scattered in various remote rural areas. The partner of this activity is a group of coconut palm sugar craftsmen in the hamlet of Gumuk Agung, Gintangan village, Blimbingsari sub-district. Coconut sugar products produced by the Sari Manggar craftsman group are less able to develop as expected, the sugar produced is of low quality, the mold is not uniform and the marketing is local so that the welfare of the coconut farmers / craftsmen does not change much and their contribution to regional income is also low. The purpose of this activity is to improve the quality of coconut sugar through mold design and marketing of coconut sugar. Therefore, it is necessary to find a solution to engineer the mold design and improve promotion and marketing. The methods used in this activity are: 1) Observation; 2) Interview; 3)Training; 4) Sugar processing demonstration; and 5) Assistance in online promotion and marketing. The results of the activity show that the implementation of service can be carried out 100%, coconut sugar craftsmen Sari Manggar can produce coconut sugar in a cylindrical shape that weighs 100g/piece and is in a half ball shape, and coconut sugar craftsmen can do promotion and marketing online.
