Abstract

Proses penghalusan merupakan hal yang sangat mempengaruhi kualitas kopi bubuk. Semakin halus/kecil ukuran partikel kopi bubuk, rasa minuman kopi akan semakin nikmat, karena sebagian besar kandungan bubuk kopi telah tercampur secara merata. Penghancuran merupakan salah satu proses pembubukan biji kopi sangrai. Semakin kecil/halus ukuran partikel kopi bubuk yang telah dihancurkan, maka akan semakin berpengaruh terhadap aroma dan rasa kopi. Studi ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh kecepatan putar mesin pembubuk kopi dan suhu penyangraian, yang meliputi waktu, kapasitas pembubukan, yang merupakan hasil torsi motor penggerak, efisiensi mesin pembubuk kopi, hasil pembubukan, rata-rata ukuran diameter partikel, dan tingkat kehalusan kopi bubuk.  Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap, yaitu penelitian pendahuluan dan utama. Penelitian pendahuluan dilakukan untuk menentukan kecepatan putar enjin optimum serta penentuan preferensi suhu penyangraian, baru kemudian dilakukan penelitian utama yang meliputi proses penghalusan dan pengayakan yang menghasilkan kopi bubuk jenis robusta. Kecepatan putar enjin yang dihasilkan pada penelitian ini adalah 3.365; 2.696; dan 2.219 PPM. Berdasarkan hasil uji citarasa dengan memanfaatkan responden yang belum terlatih secara acak, rasa kopi bubuk yang terfavorit dicapai ketika proses pengolahan/penyangraiannya dilakukan pada suhu 160oC, selama 30 dan 35 menit. Semakin tinggi kecepatan putar enjin dan suhu penyangraian, maka kapasitas dan efisiensi mesin pembubuk tipe hammer mill meningkat signifikan. Oleh karena itu, kombinasi optimum antara kecepatan putar enjin dan suhu penyangraian akan berdampak pada tingkat kehalusan kopi hasil bubuk. Kata kunci: Hammer mill, Penghalusan, Kopi bubuk robusta, Pengayakan

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh persentase subtitusi tepung koro pedang pada pembuatan tiwul instan protein tinggi terhadap karakteristik fisik, kimia dan organoleptik tiwul instan dan menentukan persentase subtitusi tepung koro pedang yang tepat sehingga dihasilkan tiwul instan yang disukai. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktor tunggal, yaitu persentase subtitusi tepung koro pedang pada pembuatan tiwul instan dan setiap perlakuan dalam penelitian diulang 3 (tiga) kali. Data pengamatan yang didapatkan dianalisis menggunakan uji keragaman (ANOVA) taraf kepercayaan 95% (α≤0,05) dan apabila ada perbedaan yang nyata antar perlakuan (α≤0,05) dilanjutkan dengan uji beda Duncan. Data uji organoleptik dianalisis menggunakan uji chi-square (α≤0,05). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan, bahwa peningkatan persentase subtitusi tepung koro pedang menyebabkan peningkatan daya rehidrasi, daya kembang dan kadar protein tiwul instan protein tinggi, namun menyebabkan penurunan terhadap densitas kamba, kecerahan warna dan  kadar air tiwul instan protein tinggi yang dihasilkan. Uji organoleptik kesukaan panelis didapatkan persentase tertinggi pada perlakuan P3 (persentase subtitusi tepung koro pedang 30% ) dengan atribut memiliki daya rehidrasi 347%, densitas kamba 0,51 g/mL, daya kembang 35,14%, kecerahan warna 69,87, kadar air 6,05%, dan kadar protein 8,15%, serta persentase kesukaan warna, aroma, rasa, tekstur, dan kekenyalan berturut turut 56, 40, 62, 68, dan 64%.

Abstract

Abstract One strategy attempts to reduce dependence on primary commodity markets are overseas market expansion and development of secondary products. In the secondary product processing coffee beans is required of supporting equipment to facilitate these efforts. Research Center for Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa has developed coffee bean roaster. However, there are still many people who do not know about the technical aspects of roaster machine type of rotating cylinder so that more people use traditional ways to roast coffee beans. In order for the benefits of this machine is better known society it is necessary to study on the technical aspects. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the technical performance of the coffee beans roaster machine type of rotating cylinder. These include the technical aspects of work capacity of the machine, roasting technical efficiency, fuel requirements, and power requirements of using roaster machine. Research methods are including data collection, calculation and analysis. The results showed that the roaster machine type of a rotating cylinder has capacity of 12.3 kg/hour. Roasting efficiency is 80%. Fuel consumption is 0.6 kg. The calculated amount of the used power of current measurement is the average of 0.616 kW. Abstract

Cacao pod is the biggest part (70% of weight) of Cacao, which was not optimaly utilized.Cacao podis one of organic material that can be functioned as an organic fertilizer, such as compost. When utilizedwith right proportion, organic fertilizer is safe for plants and not degrades the soil composition. Compostingprocess is one of utilization form of Cacao pod. The size reduction of cacao pod in the organic fertilizerprocess would help to accelerate the composting process. Smaller particle size would faster interacting withenvironment, so the composting process would be well accelerated if compared to the material with biggersize. Chopping machine of Cacao pod is used to cut the biomass to be small particle in order to be able tobe utilized as some important necessity, i.e. fertilizer or farm animals feed. However, Varies compost sizewas one of the problems faced in the composting process. Therefore, the sorting process was needed tobe done after chopping process, so the compost size became uniform and fulfill the user demand. Thisresearch was aimed at knowing the slope effect of sorting machine and rotation speed (RPM). The methodused in analyzing the results of this research was comparing the treatment factors, which are shown withhistogram. As the super small size of compost recommended for applying in the fertilizing process, so theoptimum treatment combination for having high mass fraction of SS compost grade was achieved at 12oslope of sieve table and 1400 RPM motor rotation speed. As bigger the particle densities of the compostsize as smaller the compost porosity. Abstract

One of initial step of primary cocoa processing, which determine the final quality and processing costwas pulping and pod breaker. Pod breaker is used to take out the cocoa bean and separate it from fruitcrust and placenta. Presently, cocoa pod breaking and bean separating from crust fruit are still conductedmanually and need many workers, as well. Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute has designedand tested the cocoa pod breaker with double cylinder pod breaking mechanism and vibration table graderwith bean separating mechanism. Testing result showed that cocoa pod breaker had maximum workcapacity of 9000 cocoa pod per hour at motor rotation of 2,000-2,200 rpm. Highest percentage of crust chipincluded in bean was 1.1%, which was obtained at treatment input feeding opening of 80% and percentageof broken bean of 2.1%. While the lowest percentage of crust bean was 0.16% that is obtained at 20%input feeding opening with 1.7% of broken bean. Optimum work capacity of 4,950 cocoa pod per hour wasobtained at 50% input feeding opening with 0.22% crust chip included in bean, and 1.9% of broken beanpercentage.Keywords: cocoa, podbreaker, labor saving, production efficiencyDiterima: 3 Maret 2009; Disetujui: 16 Juli 2009

Abstract

This study was purposed to design and construct a prototype electric-powered dryer unit for drying of Rubber Smoked Sheet (RSS). The performance of designated dryer was examined in terms of drying conditioning and the quality of RSS and then compared to original curing process based on the sheet quality and pace of drying. The results showed that the dryer was capable to produce the standard quality of RSS, as indicated by the absences of bubbles, product defects and impurities. The prototype of drying unit could reduce also the weight of RSS or latex rubber in average of about 36% of the initial weight for about 48 hours at temperature range between 56 and 76°C.Keywords: drying unit, latex sheet, sheet quality

Abstract

Generally the multiplication of sugarcane was conducted by cutting. The latest methods in sugarcane plant propogation using methods budchip. Criteria that must be met from the seed cane chunk with budchip methods, namely: (1) the buds are not injured, (2) has a root cuttings. This study aims to make design and performance testing of sugarcane buds mower. Stages of research: (1) identification of problem, (2) design, (3) assembly , and (4) testing machine includes functional testing and testing elemtary. The results showed that buds cane cutting machine has a capacity 1900 shoots/hour and Yield efficiency of 92.3%. Break-event point (BEF) has been achieved when producing 321.071,4 buds during 33 days.Keywords: bud chip, cutting capacity, cutting results, effisiensi, and analysis economy

Abstract

Fiber Sieving machine is a machine which used for sieving or separating coconut fiber. The machine is made of steel and driven by an electric motor. The purpose of this research was to analyze the quality of cocofiber resulted by sieve machine fiber. The process to produced cocofiber required several stages, there were decomposition, sieving, drying, and packaging. The results showed that increasing the sieve size, generated more cocofiber, less cocopeat, and faster process. Based on ANOVA there were no different between three sieving size treatments (0,4 x 0,4) cm2, (1 x 1) cm2, (2 x 2) cm2).Keywords: sieve machine fiber, efficiency, the size of the sieve

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate techno-economic on the liquid smoke production from coconut shells in small business, CV Prima Rosandries, Jember. The technical analysis was determined by calculating work capacity and yield, which resulted in 2.04 kg/hour dan 49.22%, respectively. In the cost analysis, CV Prima Rosandries required IDR 187,250,000 for its first cost and IDR 94,860,000 for its annual-operation costs, also gained the annual incomes IDR 151,200,000 and the estimated-asset value (salvage) IDR 15,525,000. In the investment evaluation, parameters, such as NPV, AE, BCR, RoR, and PBP, indicated that the business was in feasible and profitable condition. To gained the break-even point, CV Prima Rosandries obliged to sell 11,047 products and costly IDR 88,377,581. In the sensitivity analysis, percentage changes in the investment factors resulted in 22.77% for the interest rate, 82.72% for the first cost, 26.58% for the annual cost, and -16.67% for the annual benefit.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine droplet distribution using a knapsack sprayer with a water level detector-based patternator. The tests consist of measuring spraying discharge, effective spray wide and height, droplet distribution pattern and area, and traveling speed. The sensor calibration showed that the system read the liquid volume in the container with R2 = 0.99 at a linear curve: y = 2.572 + 2.502x.  The spray discharge was 0.033 L/s. The optimal spray was at 60 cm-nozzle height with effective spray wide and height were 0.64 m and 0.344, respectively. The spray distribution pattern illustrated that nozzle height affected droplet areas. The traveling speed due to nozzle height at 40 to 70 cm was 0.29 to 0.58 m/s, and had a line-up tendency, whereas spraying capacity was declined 1298 to 562 L/Ha.Keywords: Spray distribution, patternator, sprayer, water level detector
