Abstract

Hero-themed children’s films are always fun for children. The PAW Patrol film series is a spectacle aimed at pre-school-age children. The film’s main characters are one 10-year-old child and six puppies. This study aimed to look at the Appraisal System contained in the lyrics of the opening song of the PAW Patrol series, which aired on the NickJr channel. The researcher wanted to find the dominant Appraisal System in the lyrics. The researcher also wanted to know how the lyricist positioned the listeners and viewers of the film through the song’s lyrics. The data analyzed were the lyric of the opening song of the PAW Patrol film series. The data were then analyzed using Martin and White’s Appraisal System theory. Researchers used qualitative descriptive methods in analyzing the data. The results showed the three Appraisal sub-systems; Attitude, Engagement, and Graduation, are found in the lyrics of the PAW Patrol opening song. The dominant appraisal system was Graduation. Listeners or moviegoers are positioned as people who receive the image of the heroic act shown in the song's lyrics.

Abstract

Defamation remains a prevalent occurrence on a global scale. In Indonesia, the fervor surrounding the outcomes of the 2014 presidential election contestation has led to a noticeable escalation in the level of fanaticism among supporters of the respective presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Frequently, the act of posting tweets on the social media platform Twitter can result in the author becoming entangled in a legal dispute pertaining to defamation. The objective of this research is to investigate the potential occurrence of defamation committed by Natalius Pigai, the former National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) member. The analytical framework employed in this study to assess the linguistic techniques employed in the data, with the aim of identifying potential instances of defamation, was Appraisal Theory as proposed by Martin and White (2005). The data was extracted from a Twitter post authored by Natalius Pigai (@NataliusPigai2) on October 1, 2021. The findings indicated that Jokowi and Ganjar were subjected to poor evaluation in relation to their treatment of the Papuan population. The presence of this adverse evaluation also gives rise to the possibility of defamation in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Criminal Code and the ITE Law. The presence of credible factual evidence supports the assertion that Natalius Pigai's tweet can be classified as hate speech, which has the potential to result in defamation. The findings derived from this study could potentially facilitate the application of law enforcement strategies in the Indonesian police investigation, as well as in other nations that are undertaking comparable reforms to those observed in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: The information supplied by a victim of sexual violence during an investigative interview frequently serves as the sole foundation for investigators in processing a sexual violence case. Nonetheless, the investigative interview process often lacks professionalism due to efforts to impose the investigator’s personal assumptions. Aims: This research is a forensic language analysis intended to uncover the assumptions held by an investigator during an investigative interview with a child victim of sexual violence. Methods: This study utilized qualitative data obtained from the investigative interview between an investigator and a child victim of sexual violence at a police station in Cilacap. Conversation data were collected using listening and note-taking techniques. The statistics were subsequently verified with the investigator to validate their legitimacy. This study employs the dialogic speech act theory technique proposed by Weigand (2010) to elucidate the assumptions held by the researcher. Results: The findings of this study suggested that the investigator attempted to impose her personal assumptions on the victim through numerous exploratory speech acts designed to validate, offer options, and direct the victim’s responses. Implications: The findings of this study may serve as a reference in assessing the specifics of inquiries within the Standard Operational Procedure on Examination and questioning techniques during the investigative interview procedure.

Abstract

Verbal expressions of non-physical sexual violence are frequently perceived merely as “jokes.” This study investigates the possibility of a verbal sexual violence offense perpetrated by a religious leader during a question-and-answer session with a participant at a spiritual event. The data consists of a video uploaded to an Instagram account during the question-and-answer session. News articles from liputan6.com, rctiplus.com, and merdeka.com are used prevent research bias and to support the data transcription and interpretation. The dialogue among Person 1, Person 2, and Person 3 in the video was subsequently transcribed to analyze the speech acts employed. This research uses a qualitative descriptive methodology. This study qualifies and explains speech acts through Weigand’s (2010) taxonomy of dialogic speech acts. This study’s results indicate that Person 1 employs representative and directive speech. This dominance indicates that Person 1 attempted to persuade all attendees at the event that the “joke” regarding Person 3 was factual. Furthermore, this dominance indicates that Person 1 has been found to have violated Law No. 12 of 2022 through the commission of a criminal act of verbal sexual violence. The taxonomy of dialogic speech acts has effectively facilitated the analysis of potential criminal acts of verbal sexual violence.

Abstract

Educators and schools might seek the availability of adequate learning resources. The learning resources for kinematics at SMAN 1 Bawang are limited in quantity and diversity. Previous observations indicated that most students relied on rote memorization of formulas, which led to difficulties when applying them to problems. Consequently, the author is motivated to investigate the application of the Deep Learning Approach utilizing QR Code learning media, aiming to assess the enhancement of high school students’ learning outcomes in kinematics who engaged with this method, as well as to compare the improvement in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The research population comprised students at SMA Negeri 1 Bawang, with the sample consisting of students from grades XI VI and XI VII. The sampling technique employed was cluster random sampling. The instruments utilised were assessments and surveys to evaluate learning outcomes and student feedback. The statistical test yielded a significant value. The two-tailed p-value of <0.05, specifically 0.00, indicates the rejection of H₀. Consequently, it is concluded that a difference exists in the learning outcomes of kinematics material between pretest and posttest scores in the experimental class, which utilised a deep learning approach with QR code media. The data reveal an improvement from a pretest score of 47.37 to a posttest score of 77.73, reflecting a 30.36% increase. The implementation of a deep learning strategy utilising QR code media demonstrates a significant enhancement in learning outcomes relative to traditional classroom instruction. The research suggests creating an interactive digital module that combines printed materials with actual experimental videos or virtual simulations, accessible via QR codes in each sub-chapter of the kinematics content.

Abstract

The condition of the COVID19 pandemic has changed the habits of the world, including the education sector in Indonesia. For schools with strong economic strength, both students and educators will have no significant difficulties in implementing face-to-face online learning in a full manner (synchronous). On the other hand, there are many obstacles to implementing synchronous learning in schools with low economic abilities for both students and educators. One learning method that can be done with minimal barriers is asynchronous learning. Akademi Maritim Nusantara Cilacap and IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon, both schools have low economic strength, both students and lecturers. This study aims to see the benefits and problems that arise in applying asynchronous learning in Maritime English II of Akademi Maritim Nusantara Cilacap and English I of IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon course. The researcher uses Google Classroom, YouTube, WhatsApp and Telegram media in lecture activities. The researcher then conducted a mini-survey to find out the advantages and obstacles experienced by students. The data is then explained using a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed at least 5 (five) advantages and 1 (one) weakness in asynchronous learning. The five benefits are material enrichment, access to learning materials, social interaction, personal interaction, and ease in discussing student work. Meanwhile, the constraints found were related to cost-effectiveness.
