Abstract

Abstract

Advances in technology and communication media that are increasingly rapidly giving meaning to the development of education where various information can be easily accessed, including health. Among the various latest trends that have emerged, podcasts appear as a very interesting technology for conducting health education and can be accepted by all circles, including the millennial generation. Various health education themes have been carried out through podcasts, one of which is noise awareness which reviews various information about the importance of maintaining hearing health and its impact on quality of life. The millennial generation is an age group that is close to technological developments, so that more and more young people are at risk of hearing loss due to frequent exposure to loud sounds from gadgets or from a noisy surrounding environment. The results of this podcast recording are then uploaded through the YouTube channel with the hope that the information that has been reviewed in it will be able to increase high awareness of individuals, especially the younger generation regarding their daily attitudes in maintaining hearing health, as a preventive and promotive effort. The result of this activity is the acceptance of education about noise awareness by the public which can be seen from the viewers listed on the youtube page. There are 675 viewers on this podcast upload.

Abstract

Traditional fishermen and divers are activities that are generally carried out by people in coastal areas. Kuta area, Mandalika is one of the coastal areas located on the island of Lombok. Diving activities and catching marine products are generally carried out in a hereditary manner and do not meet the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for safe and correct diving and are not followed by knowledge of the safety and health of diving so that it can cause problems in several organs of the body and the most often is the ear. In addition, health problems in coastal communities, especially in the field of ENT are also influenced by several factors including clean and healthy living behavior and environmental sanitation. Therefore, in this national social service activity, ENT health service activities and ear cleaning are carried out to obtain an overview of the health conditions of the people in coastal areas. The results of the ENT examination obtained in this activity are that in general the community has a good health status, although there are still several health problems that need attention, namely cerumen impaction and middle ear infection (CSOM), so it is necessary to carry out similar activities in coastal communities, especially on the island of Lombok to achieve better health status

Abstract

Super Red Dragon Fruit is known to have various compounds with high antioxidant activity, which are important in preventing or assisting therapies to reduce free radicals in the body. Different types of solvents, including ethanol, can affect the antioxidant levels in dragon fruit compounds. Therefore, it is important to determine the level of ethanol solvent that provides the highest antioxidant activity. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant activity in red dragon fruit extract using 70% and 96% ethanol solvents and determine whether there is a difference in activity between the two. Using the true experimental method, antioxidant activity in the fruit and skin of red super dragon fruit extracted using two different solvent levels was compared. Based on the shapiro-wilk test which showed a p value of 0.410, it was found that there was no significant difference between the two solvents in terms of antioxidant activity. This result indicates that the antioxidant activity in red dragon fruit extracts with 70% and 96% ethanol solvents has no significant difference.

Abstract

Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen prevalent in everyday environments, poses significant health risks, particularly through inhalation exposure. This study investigates the histopathological changes in the lungs of Wistar rats induced by formaldehyde at doses of 20, 30, and 40 parts per million (ppm) over a three-month period. The research aims to elucidate the onset of dysplasia, a cellular defense mechanism characterized by abnormal epithelial proliferation, as a response to carcinogenic exposure. Utilizing a post-test only control group experimental design, we observed that increased formaldehyde exposure correlates with a heightened severity of dysplasia, with a statistically significant result (p = 0.002). Our findings indicate that varying doses of formaldehyde lead to differential degrees of dysplasia, underscoring the importance of dose-response relationships in assessing the carcinogenic effects of formaldehyde on lung tissue.

Abstract

High cholesterol and hypertension are major cardiovascular risk factors that can negatively affect hearing function through vascular disturbances in the inner ear. However, public awareness regarding the relationship between metabolic disorders and hearing impairment remains limited. This community service activity aimed to increase public knowledge and awareness of the potential impact of high cholesterol and hypertension on hearing health. The health education program was conducted on September 30, 2025, at the ENT Outpatient Clinic of West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Hospital and targeted patients and their companions from various age groups. The activity was organized collaboratively by medical students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Mataram, under the supervision of an otolaryngologist and in cooperation with the hospital’s Health Promotion Team. Educational materials were delivered through interactive presentations supported by visual aids and followed by quizzes and discussion sessions. The implementation of the program was carried out in an interactive and conducive atmosphere, with participants actively engaging in discussions and responding enthusiastically to the educational content. The activity provided participants with a better understanding of the association between hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and hearing disorders, as well as preventive measures that can be undertaken to maintain both hearing and cardiovascular health. This educational program is expected to encourage early detection, healthy lifestyle practices, and better management of metabolic risk factors to prevent hearing impairment and improve overall quality of life

Abstract

Ear and hearing health are often neglected, and sometimes people are unaware of hearing loss. Hearing loss can be caused by various factors and can affect all age groups. Noise is one factor that causes hearing loss. Improper use of headsets or headphones can cause hearing loss called Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). Hearing loss in NIHL is a sensorineural type that generally affects both ears. This educational activity was conducted with the aim of providing information to the public about the importance of maintaining ear and hearing health and how to prevent it. Participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity and listening to every piece of information presented. The high level of enthusiasm from the participants can be used as a benchmark and evaluation of activities for better implementation in the future
