Abstract

Purpose: Rice is the staple food for most Indonesians. The increasing population will lead to a higher demand for rice and its price. The higher price becomes an issue since rice is one of the staple foods. If the rice price remains high, only a few groups of people can afford it. Meanwhile, demand is not the only factor that increases the price of the rice. Climate change can also affect rice prices through rainfall changes that lead to changes in harvest season. That condition will decrease the rice supply and increase the rice price. Thus, this study aims to examine the factors that affect the rice price in 33 provinces in Indonesia. Methodology: This study utilizes secondary data from Statistics Indonesia from 2018 to 2023. This study treats rice prices as the dependent variable. The independent variables consist of rice production, agricultural labour absorption, rainfall as the proxy of climate change, and per capita income. Results: The study revealed that rice production has a positive impact on rice prices, labour has a negative impact on rice prices, rainfall has a negative impact on rice prices, and income per capita has a positive impact on rice prices. Applications/Originality/Value: This study's results surely add to the gap regarding the determinant of rice price investigated by using climate change issues. The results revealed that there is an effect of rainfall as the proxy of climate change on rice prices in Indonesia. The findings imply that climate change mitigation and adaptation should be conducted in the agricultural sector to maintain the stability of rice prices.

Abstract

Environmental quality is one of the topics that is widely discussed. The environmental quality degradation such as increasing greenhouse gases will induce climate change that will affect many sectors. This study aims to estimate the determinants of environmental quality in 33 provinces in Indonesia from 2016 to 2022. The data was generated from Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Statistics Indonesia. Many studies observe the determinant of environmental quality or its relationship with economy and population. However, the results are still varied.  This study fills the gap by utilizing the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) as the proxy of environmental quality while most studies in Indonesia use CO2. Economic growth, human development index, population density, and forest coverage are treated as independent variable. This study employs the Fixed-Effects model in estimating the data. The results revealed that the human development index positively and significantly affects the environmental quality index. Meanwhile, it is found that population density affects The Environmental Quality Index (EQI) negatively. Policymakers can construct policies in sustainable development such as building more extensive green space, restricting land use, and increasing human development to keep the environmental quality better.

Abstract

Mundu Village is a village in Indonesia located in Tulung District, Klaten Regency, Central Java Province. The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) revealed that more than 60% of the residents of Mundu Village own cattle. This condition has led the community to utilize cattle manure as a source of renewable energy. Additionally, cattle manure is processed into fertilizer to nourish various plants, some of which serve as a food source for the livestock. This activity is known as zero-waste agriculture. This condition encouraged the Mundu Village government to establish a Tourism Village that offers educational tourism based on renewable energy. Mundu Village already has several buildings to support the realization of the Tourism Village. However, Mundu Village is not yet ready in terms of institutions. The community service team from the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Law of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta provided education and assistance in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the acceleration of institutional readiness in the effort to establish an Educational Tourism Village based on Renewable Energy. The activity proceeded successfully, marked by the preparation of a draft SOP that is ready to be approved, supporting the institutional strengthening of the Tourism Village.

Abstract

Healthcare spending in ASEAN countries has been increasing along with economic growth, changes in the aging population, and urbanization. The growing number of elderly people and differences in mortality rates across countries create challenges in healthcare financing. This study aims to understand how economic growth, the elderly population, the labor force, and mortality rates affect healthcare spending in 10 ASEAN countries from 2012 to 2021. To analyze these relationships, the study uses statistical methods that compare different models for more accurate results. The findings show that higher economic growth and a larger elderly population lead to increased healthcare spending. Meanwhile, the effect of mortality rates on healthcare spending varies depending on the quality of healthcare infrastructure in each country. Additionally, urbanization also plays a role in driving healthcare spending. It is hoped that this research can help the government in determining policies in the health system in each country.

Abstract

The changes and uncertainty of the business environment in the VUCA era are serious challenges that must be faced, especially for SMEs. The unpreparedness of business actors to face these changes can impact the decline in SME performance and business sustainability. SMEs must continue to adapt to all changes that occur in their capabilities. Thus, SME players must have a business strategy using their resources by increasing dynamic entrepreneurial capabilities supported by financial resources to compete in the market. This research aims to analyze the relationship between digital technology capability, relational capability, innovation capability, financial resource development, and SMEs’ performance in Surakarta. The results of 120 SME respondents in Surakarta show that dynamic entrepreneurial capability, in this case, is measured using the variables digital technology capability (DTC), relational capability (RC), and innovation capability (IC) which are proven to have a significant influence on SMEs performance and also the development of financial resources can only partially mediate digital technology capability, however Financial resource development cannot mediate the influence of relational capability or innovation capability on SMEs performance. This research implies that it is important for SMEs to have dynamic entrepreneurial capabilities and develop their financial resources to maintain and improve their business performance.
