This study aims to analyze local economic transformation through the strengthening of the halal industry in Padang Lawas Utara Regency. The background of this research stems from the growing public awareness of halal products and the significant potential of the halal sector in promoting regional economic growth. However, the development of the halal industry in Padang Lawas Utara still faces several challenges, including limited infrastructure, low halal literacy among business actors, and the suboptimal implementation of local government policies. Abstract

Abstract This study examines how ownership structure and corporate governance quality affect tunneling behavior in Indonesia, with a focus on the moderating role of the number of subsidiaries. Quantitative research techniques and secondary data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange, business websites, and pertinent periodicals were used in the study. From 2016 to 2019, 474 observations from listed companies on the IDX—excluding non-financial firms—made up the sample. STATA 14.2 software was used to perform statistical studies, such as Pearson Correlation, OLS Regression, and Moderated Regression. The findings show that tunneling behavior is positively impacted by managerial ownership, government ownership, and corporate governance quality, but negatively by domestic ownership. However, tunnelling behavior is not much impacted by foreign ownership. while domestic ownership has a negative impact. Foreign ownership, on the other hand, does not significantly affect tunnelling behaviour. Notably, the number of subsidiaries strengthens the relationship between corporate governance quality and tunnelling behaviour. Keywords: Corporate governance quality; ownership structure; tunnelling behaviour; subsidiaries. Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the variables that affect muzakis' zakat payment decisions at the National Amil Zakat Agency. Altruism was included in this study as a moderating variable as well. Muzaki's capacity to decide to pay zakat is a result of his attention to and awareness of doing so. Muzaki may decide to distribute zakat at the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). Methodology/approach: The population in this study is the entire community in Indonesia, with purposive sampling used to select specific respondents. The sample size was determined using the "ten times the number of formative indicators" method, resulting in 230 respondents. Data was collected through online questionnaires distributed to millennials in Indonesia via Google Forms. The analysis was conducted using Warp PLS 6.0, which involved three stages: 1) Evaluation of the Measurement Model, 2) Evaluation of the Structural Model, and 3) Hypothesis Testing. Results/findings: Then the variables of perception and religiosity have no significant effect on the muzaki's decision to pay zakat to the National Amil Zakat Agency through altruism. The results of this study are expected to be useful for related parties, especially the National Amil Zakat Agency, to continue to improve and maintain the factors that influence Muzaki's decisions in carrying out Zakat payments. Conclusion: This study finds that perception and religiosity significantly influence muzaki's decision to pay zakat through BAZNAS, while altruism does not have a significant moderating effect. These results suggest that BAZNAS should focus on enhancing public awareness of zakat's spiritual and social benefits. Limitation: The study's sample is limited to millennials in Indonesia, which may not fully represent the general population. The use of purposive sampling and online surveys could introduce bias, and the insignificance of altruism requires further exploration in future studies. Contribution: This research contributes to understanding zakat payment behavior by emphasizing the importance of perception and religiosity. It offers practical insights for BAZNAS to improve zakat collection and enhance poverty alleviation efforts.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital media and social networking platforms has substantially transformed the ways students’ access, consume, and disseminate news, while simultaneously increasing their vulnerability to misinformation and disinformation. This condition underscores the urgency of strengthening news literacy as an essential cognitive and social competence for fostering critical awareness and responsible digital citizenship. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a news literacy workshop in strengthening senior high school students’ perceptions and critical awareness in Indonesia. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test approach involving 91 senior high school students who participated in news literacy workshops conducted at four schools in North Sumatra Province. Data were collected using a news literacy perception questionnaire encompassing conceptual understanding, information verification skills, awareness of media bias, and ethical attitudes toward media use. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, complemented by effect size calculations to assess the magnitude of the intervention’s impact. The results indicate a statistically significant increase in students’ mean news literacy perception scores following the workshop, with significance values of p 0.05 and effect sizes ranging from large to very large. The most substantial improvements were observed in indicators related to understanding news structure and news values, recognizing media bias, and applying practical digital information verification skills, including the use of fact-checking tools and reverse image search techniques. Although the normalized gain (N-Gain) was categorized as low, this finding is understandable given the limited duration of the intervention and the complex nature of news literacy, which requires sustained and continuous learning processes. Overall, the findings confirm that news literacy workshops are effective as an initial strategy for strengthening high school students’ critical awareness and news literacy perceptions and have important implications for the development of integrated and sustainable news literacy programs within formal education in Indonesia.
