Abstract

The aims of this study was to investigate The Correlation Between Parents’ Socioeconomic Condition and English Students Learning Achievement. To what extend socio-economic conditions correlate to students achievement of learning English, how high is the correlation of socioeconomic conditions of parents towards English learning achievement. The objectives to be achieved in this study is to find out to know how the socio-economic conditions of students parents and its correlation on English learning achievement, to determine the correlation level of parents socio-economic background of students who differ on English learning achievement and then to know how high is the correlation of parents socio-economic conditions towards English learning achievement.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this descriptive research was to describe the students’ Language Learning Strategies in learning English. The population of this research was the second year students of English study program of FKIP Universitas Riau of 2014/2015 academic year. The whole number of the population is about 86 students. Due to the large population which is consisting of 3 classes, the random sampling technique is used. One of the classes is taken as the sample as many as 30 students. The adopted from SILL questionnaire (Strategy Inventory for Language Learning) version 7.0 is used to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed by calculating the scores of the students in answering the questionnaire and classified them to a certain level of SILL Profile of Result. The research finding can briefly explain as follows: First the result of the SILL shows that, the most often Language Learning Strategies used by the students is the Compensation strategies with mean score 3.90 (classified as High level). Then, the less frequent used strategies by the students is Memory Strategies with mean score 3.22 (classified as Medium level). This means that the students were very good in guessing intelligently in listening and reading but not too well in remembering when they are learning English. The suggestion is it would be better if they also can use the other strategies which are appropriate to their tasks, difficulties and learning objectives. Then, hopefully students can improve their English by using more language learning strategies in their learning to help learning easier, and enjoyable.Keywords: language leaning strategy, learning, English

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran inkuiri dengan model Mind Mapping (Peta Pikiran) terhadap prestasi belajar siswa kelas VII di SMP N 13 Banda Aceh”. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu menggunakan tes, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Berdasarkan uji normalitas dan uji homogenitas terdapat perbedaan antara kelas eskperimen dan kelas kontrol nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. Di kelas eksperimen terdapat 30% siswa yang tidak tuntas dan 70% siswa yang tuntas, sedangkan di kelas kontrol terdapat 80% siswa yang tidak tuntas dan 20% siswa yang tuntas.Berdasarkan uji hipotesis atau uji-t pada maka dari daftar distribusi t diperoleh ttabel = 2,02. Adapun nilai ttabel pada taraf signifikan 5% (α = 0,05) dengan derajat kebebasan dk = 41 adalah 2,02. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahandata yang telah dilakukan, diperoleh hasil uji-t yaitu nilai thitung = 0,25 dan nilai ttabel2,11. Berarti bahwa thitung ttabel yaitu 0,25 2,11. Dengan demikian sesuai kriteria pengujian, maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima. Artinya, penggunaan  Metode Pembelajaran Inkuiri dan Model Mind Mapping (Peta Pikiran) berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada pembelajaran sejarah. This study aims to determine the effect of inquiry learning methods with the Mind Mapping model (Mind Maps) on student achievement in class VII in SMP N 13 Banda Aceh ". This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches with experimental research types. Data collection techniques in this study are using tests, documentation and interviews. Based on the normality test and homogeneity test there is a difference between the experimental class and the control class the average value obtained by the experimental class is higher than the control class. In the experimental class there were 30% of students who were incomplete and 70% of students who were complete, while in the control class there were 80% of students who were incomplete and 20% of students who were complete. = 2.02. The value of the table at a significant level of 5% (α = 0.05) with a degree of freedom dk = 41 is 2.02. Based on the results of processing the data that has been done, the t-test results obtained are the t-value = 0.25 and the ttable value 2.11. It means that tcount ttable is 0.25 2.11. Thus according to the test criteria, then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. That is, the use of Inquiry Learning Methods and Mind Mapping Models (Mind Maps) affect student learning outcomes in learning history.

Abstract

Keluhan musculoskeletal disolders merupakan keluhan berupa sakit, nyeri dan pegal pada sistem otot dan tulang yang disebabkan oleh peregangan otot yang berlebihan, aktifitas secara berulang, sikap kerja tidak alamiah. Faktor  yang  berkontribusi  sebagai faktor mempengaruhi terjadinya keluhan musculoskeletal  disorders  yaitu  masa  kerja,  lama orang bekerja, namun kondisi ini  juga  terkait  dengan  ketahanan  fisik  seseorang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Pos UKK Kapal Sanggat Seberang Kota Jambi,  sasaran kegiatan ini adalah para pembatik yang ada di Pos UKK Kapal Sanggat Kota Jambi yang berjumlah 10 orang. Bertujuan untuk  edukasi pencegahan gangguan musculoskeletal pada para pembatik. Metode yang digunakan ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini yang diikuti 10 orang pembatik adanya peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai pencegahan gangguan musculoskeletal pada pembatik saat bekerja. Peserta yang hadir diharapkan dapat memanfaatkan pengetahuan mengenai pencegahan gangguan musculoskeletal agar saat bekerja mampu mengaplikasikan agar terhindar dari gangguan musculoskeletal.

Abstract

The research aimed at finding out the English competence needed by nursing department students during the course of their studies as well as in preparing themselves for their future work as nurses at the international level. The competence needed by the students and nurses-to-be was then used as the basis for designing the English material to be proposed to and adopted by the curriculum at Baiturrahim Vocational high School Jambi. This research took place at the Baiturrahim Vocational high School Jambi. The research was descriptive qualitative in nature. This study used interviews and observations to collect the data to answer the research questions. The source of data was sixteen nursing students, one teacher and the headmaster. The results of the data analysis indicated that there were ten main competencies to acquire by nursing students to function properly in the nursing profession. The competencies included giving explanation of the escort of basic treatment, giving the health counseling, giving the explanation of the escort of pathology and its treatment, translating the data collection, medical record and report data, executing the basic treatment, using communication skills in a healthcare, approaching to the patient, listening, questioning and diagnosing, giving explanation and advice, and communicating in term of involving patient in management. The ten basic competencies were then used as the bases in designing the syllabus for the Nursing Department students. The type of syllabus chosen was competence-based one. The syllabus stated the competency standards, basic competencies along with their indicators, list of teaching materials, suggested learning experience, time allotment, list of resources and media, and assessment

Abstract

Nowadays, media becomes crucial aspect in language learning and teaching, since the rapid of technology in this world.  This study aimed to review some previous studies about the use of western movies as media for EFL students in language classroom.  To give sight for teachers that using media in the classroom can assist students to improve their language skills. The study is a library research study which was conducted by reviewing several library works that are relevant and related based on existing problems. Around 15 studies related to this topic were discussed. The data were analyzed using two different thought processes, such as inductive and deductive. Deductive analysis was a method of thinking to draw findings using reasoning starting from general statements to particular inquiries, whereas inductive analysis was a way of thinking to draw conclusions starting from specific facts to general conclusions. It is found that using movies as media in language learning can improve students’ English language skill in idiomatic expression, vocabulary, and speaking.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Stroke merupakan penyakit pembuluh darah otak yang menyebabkan defisit neurologis menetap lebih dari 24 jam. Kondisi ini disebabkan karena kondisi iskemia atau hemoragik pada pembuluh darah otak. Manifestasi klinis yang terjadi pada pasien stroke yaitu adanya hipertonus atau hypotonia yang menyebabkan penurunan kekuatan otot, gangguan kontrol motorik, munculnya refleks patologis, gangguan koordinasi dan keseimbangan. Tujuan: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melaporkan pengaruh pemberian intervensi dengan New Bobath Concept pada kondisi post stroke non-hemoragik. Metode: case report yang bertujuan untuk melaporkan hasil intervensi pada satu subjek dengan kondisi post stroke non-hemoragik. Hasil: terjadi peningkatan keseimbangan dan kemampuan activity daily living (ADL) setelah pemberian New Bobath Concept sebanyak 6 kali. Hasil lain yaitu tidak terjadi peningkatan kekuatan otot dan fungsi sensorik. Kesimpulan: New Bobath Concept dapat meningkatkan keseimbangan dan kemampuan activity daily living (ADL) pada pasien post stroke non-hemoragik.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has issued new rules to prepare pre-service teachers to be professional teachers in the future by asking them to attend additional education named Teachers Professional Education Program (locally known as Pendidikan Profesi Guru, henceforth PPG). This case study aimed to identify the obstacles experienced by pre-service English teachers in FKIP Universitas Riau during the PPG program and the Teaching Practicum (PPL) as a part of the PPG program. This qualitative research involved 10 alumni of the Subsidized PPG English Education Department. Focus Group Discussion was used to collect data from the participants. The data obtained were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s (1984) thematic analysis and referred to the three procedures introduced by Flick (2002) i.e., open coding, axial coding and selective coding with the help of the NVivo 12 software. The findings showed seven emerging obstacles faced by the pre service English teachers during PPG. There were one (1) obstacle found at the first-semester theory program in PPG, and six (6) obstacles found at the second-semester practicum program in PPG known as PPL, which can be used as an input for further PPG students to prepare themselves both physically and mentally when participating in PPG as well as that for the development of a better PPG system in the future used by the government.

Abstract

Children with down syndrome experience cognitive development limitations and genetic abnormalities. Although children with down syndrome have limitations, with appropriate guidance and support, they can grow into independent and productive individuals within their communities. The partner in this community service program is SLB YPAC Makassar, with the target of 10 children with down syndrome. The program aims to strengthen their self-confidence and motoric skills as part of the empowerment efforts. The method applied is the art of drama and dance which is implemented in six stages. The stages of the program include dialogue training, role playing, and dance movements. To measure self-confidence and motor skills, an observation checklist was used. The results showed a significant improvements in the children with down syndrome in dialogue, body movement coordination, and participation in drama and dance performances attended by parents, teachers, and friends indicating increase trend in 70% of self-confidence and 80% of motoric skills. The program proved effective in strengthening these two aspects in children with down syndrome. Therefore, to ensure its sustainability, a drama and dance arts community has been established at SLB YPAC Makassar.

Abstract

One type of assessment in EFL classroom that allows teachers to monitor students’ learning is formative assessment. However, conducting this assessment is not easy and straightforward so that there are some obstacles occurred during the implementation. This study is aimed to investigate the obstacles they faced by English course teachers in applying formative assessment. The data were collected by conducting interview with three English course teachers as the participants. The result showed that the participants had various obstacles in applying the assessment in the classroom such as those related with the topic raised for the assessment, the time used, and the honesty of students in receiving the formative assessment
