Abstract

This community service program was conducted in response to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which requires stronger digital literacy and practical STEM competencies in schools. The program aimed to introduce IoT-based STEM learning to teachers and students at Situraja State Senior High School (SMAN Situraja), a rural school in West Java, Indonesia, to enhance digital literacy and promote hands-on STEM education. To achieve this, the program implemented an IoT-based distance monitoring project using an ultrasonic sensor, an ESP32 microcontroller, and the Blynk platform through a project-based learning approach that included lectures, collaborative practical sessions, and interactive feedback activities. The program was evaluated using post-activity questionnaires administered to both teachers and students to capture their perceptions of the learning activities and outcomes. The results showed highly positive teacher responses, with 75–100% of participants selecting "strongly agre across all evaluation items, including 100% agreement on understanding IoT data transmission and the relevance of STEM integration. Student feedback also indicated positive motivation toward STEM learning, with 48% of students strongly agreeing that the activity increased their interest in STEM. However, student responses related to physics concept understanding and real-world application were more varied, with up to 48% selecting neutral responses in these areas. This difference suggests that teachers more readily recognized the instructional relevance of the program, while some students were still adapting to newly introduced IoT and physics concepts.

Abstract

Many studies use radars for Human Activity Recognition (HAR), and numerous techniques for preprocessing FMCW radar data have been explored to improve HAR performances. Our approach employs 1-D radar to classify four human activities, i.e., walking, standing, crouching, and sitting.  We use Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) with Kaiser window to generate range-time and Doppler-time data from inphase and quadrature radar signal. The choice of windowing parameters, i.e., window size and window shape represented by the beta parameter in Kaiser window, is considered to have significant impacts on the performances of deep learning LSTM models, including the F1-score. However, our study in this paper, including statistical analysis using t-tests, shows otherwise. Our results consistently support the null hypothesis, which mean that variations in window size and window shape do not significantly affect the F1-score. In essence, our findings underscore the robustness of our preprocessing methodology, emphasizing the stability and reliability of the selected configurations. This research provides valuable insights into the preprocessing techniques for radar data in the context of human activity recognition, enhancing the consistency and credibility of deep learning models in this domain.

Abstract

Abstract: Digital transformation in the industry 4.0 era demands the improvement of human resource quality through technological literacy, critical thinking skills, and interdisciplinary applied understanding starting from secondary education. However, science learning at the senior high school level remains largely theoretical and lacks contextual integration with technological applications. This condition was also identified among 32 students of SMAN 1 Dayeuhkolot, who had not yet experienced technology-based practical learning. This community service program aimed to implement STEM-based learning through Internet of Things (IoT) training using ultrasonic sensors as a science learning medium, targeting the improvement of both hard skills (IoT device assembly, microcontroller programming, and monitoring system development) and softskills (critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork). The implementation methods included problem identification, learning needs analysis, module and simple IoT system design, training delivery through lectures, demonstrations, hands and on practice, and evaluation using questionnaire comprising 12 items across three assessment dimensions. The evaluation results showed that more than 93% of participants agreed that the training helped them understand fundamental science concepts linked to real-world IoT applications. These findings indicate that integrating IoT into classroom learning has the potential to enhance more applied and contextual learning experiences.

Abstract

Signal complexity in lung sounds is assumed to be able to differentiate and classify characteristic lung sound between normal and abnormal in most cases. Previous research has employed a variety of modification approaches to obtain lung sound features. In contrast to earlier research, time-domain features were used to extract features in lung sound classification. Electromyogram (EMG) signal analysis frequently employs this time-domain characteristic. Time-domain features are MAV, SSI, Var, RMS, LOG, WL, AAC, DASDV, and AFB. The benefit of this method is that it allows for direct feature extraction without the requirement for transformation. Several classifiers were used to examine five different types of lung sound data. The highest accuracy was 93.9 percent, obtained Using the decision tree with 9 types of time-domain features. The proposed method could extract features from lung sounds as an alternative.

Abstract

Spurious SpO₂ readings—arising from motion artifacts, environmental interference, or device variability—remain a major limitation in wearable pulse oximetry, potentially triggering false alarms or missing hypoxemia during outpatient monitoring. Conventional devices often lack real-time mechanisms to detect and mitigate such errors, with previous reports indicating measurement biases of 11.2 - 24.5% across different models, underscoring the need for improved accuracy and user guidance. To address this gap, we present the design of an IoT-enabled wearable pulse oximeter with real-time user feedback, delivered through a mobile application. The system integrates a pulse oximetry and heart rate sensor (MAX30100) with a carbon monoxide gas sensor (MQ-7) and provides targeted notifications to guide corrective actions such as repositioning the probe, removing nail polish, or moving to fresh air. Validation involved controlled scenario testing (undetected SpO₂, CO >40 ppm, nail polish, and loose contact) and user trials with 15 healthy volunteers from varied academic backgrounds. The prototype demonstrated high accuracy, with low relative errors—0.92% (HR), 0.93% (SpO₂), and 0.015% (CO)—and strong usability, achieving 93.3% compliance with corrective prompts, an average response time of 4.0±0.7 seconds, and a satisfaction score of 4.3/5. Compared with commercial oximeters, the proposed system improved reliability by reducing measurement errors by at least 87% through real-time corrective feedback. Future work will focus on energy-efficient power management and large-scale community-based trials to further validate performance across diverse patient populations.
