Abstract

This study examines the public perception of the news coverage regarding the Vina Cirebon case aired on TVOne. The case of Vina, a 16-year-old student from Cirebon, drew widespread attention after a film titled "Vina Sebelum 7 Hari" revived public discussion on the unresolved murder case. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores how viewers in RT 006 Gunung Agung interpreted and responded to TVOne’s coverage, including news programs and special segments like “Dua Sisi”. Data was gathered through interviews with selected informants using purposive sampling. The findings reveal that viewers formed both positive and negative perceptions. Positive responses include increased public awareness and caution regarding personal safety, while negative responses involve skepticism towards law enforcement and the legal system due to the prolonged nature and inconsistencies in the case handling. These findings suggest a need for more responsible media framing and for the public to maintain a critical but balanced view of media content.

Abstract

The background of this research is based on changes in consumer behavior when choosing accommodation, where online platforms like Traveloka have become a primary source of information before making a booking. The method used is a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis techniques. Data was obtained through surveys and analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, descriptive statistics, and regression tests. The results of the study show that Traveloka ratings do not have a significant effect on the decision to stay, indicating that consumers tend to consider other factors such as price and location. On the other hand, Traveloka reviews were found to have a significant influence, reflecting the important role of customer reviews in shaping perceptions and building trust in the hotel. In addition, hotel promotional media also significantly influenced consumer decisions, where visual and interactive content through digital channels proved effective in attracting interest and creating an emotional connection with potential guests. These findings contribute to the development of digital marketing strategies in the hospitality industry, particularly in increasing occupancy rates and customer satisfaction at Hotel Horison Lampung

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of citizen journalism in strengthening journalistic practices on the Instagram account @lampuung. Citizen journalism allows the public to actively participate in the collection, dissemination, and verification of information. The @lampuung account, as an example of a social media platform applying the concept of citizen journalism, serves as a channel for distributing information involving direct contributions from the public, such as photos, videos, and narrative reports on various issues. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, collecting data through in- depth interviews with citizen journalists who contribute to @lampuung. The results of the study indicates that citizen journalism on the @lampuung account enhances journalistic practices through three key contributions : accelerating the dissemination of local information, enriching the diversity of perspectives in reporting, and increasing public engagement in the information sharing process. In addition, the role of admin is crucial in maintaining the credibility and validity of the content through layered verification processes. Despite challenges such as low media literacy, technical limitations, and the risk of spreading hoaxes, @lampuung has managed to effectively manage public participation, creating a participatory, adaptive, and responsible digital information ecosystem. This research contributes to the understanding of how social media particularly Instagram can serve as a collaborative space between the public and the media in strengthening local journalistic practices in the era of new media.

Abstract

This research investigates the cultural significance of the transformation in the Ngaben ceremony, a central cremation ritual in Balinese Hindu tradition, focusing on the shift from traditional firewood-based methods to modern gas-based cremation practices. The Ngaben ceremony holds profound religious, philosophical, and social meaning, symbolizing the liberation of the soul from worldly ties and its journey to the afterlife. In recent decades, technological advancements and socio-environmental considerations have prompted many communities in Bali to adopt gas cremation systems, offering greater efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and lower operational costs. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, this study draws on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis to explore how this transition affects cultural meaning, community values, and religious interpretations. The research compares the symbolic elements embedded in traditional and modern methods, examining how changes in materials, process duration, and ceremonial aesthetics influence the perceived authenticity and spiritual significance of the ritual. Findings reveal that while some community members view the adoption of gas cremation as a pragmatic adaptation that aligns with contemporary needs, others express concern about the erosion of cultural heritage and the diminished role of traditional craftsmanship. Furthermore, the study highlights the adaptive strategies employed by Balinese Hindu communities to integrate modern technology while preserving essential spiritual values, such as maintaining ritual sequences, symbolic offerings, and priest-led prayers. The analysis underscores that cultural transformation within religious practices is not a simple replacement of old methods with new ones, but rather a process of negotiation between tradition and innovation. Ultimately, this research contributes to broader discussions on cultural resilience, religious continuity, and the dynamic interaction between technological change and sacred tradition in contemporary Balinese Hindu society.
