Abstract

Soil characteristic and properties are essential determinants for effective land management. Soil genesis results from the interaction of various pedogenic factors, which are influenced by environmental conditions, thereby producing diverse soil types in different locations. This study was conducted in the Wonosalam sub-district, an area characterized by diverse regional conditions due to its varied physiographic features. The physiographic and climatic conditions in this region significantly influence soil formation processes. This research focused on monitoring soil development at several locations within Wonosalam, specifically at the UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur experimental field. The study included five observation points, categorized by land map units: PW1, PW2, PW3, PW4, and PW5. Morphological analyses indicate the presence of two distinct soil types among the five observation points. The soils in PW1, PW2, PW3, and PW4 are classified under the Alfisols order, specifically within the Typic Hapludalf subgroup. In contrast, the soil at PW5 belongs to the Inceptisols order, specifically the Typic Humudepts subgroup. This diversity suggests that the area encompasses soils of different orders. The soil characteristic data obtained from the UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur experimental field can be utilized as a basis for planning the management of the area.

Abstract

The availability of technologies for instructional purposes has grown rapidly. One of them is using a digital story to teach English for polytechnic students. Actually, it is not a new learning platform, but few teachers apply it in their own classroom especially in the Asian context where English is viewed as a foreign language. To fill this void, the researcher deployed digital storytelling which involved students in creating digital stories and voicing their experience orally. This article further explains the implementation of digital storytelling as a pedagogical language input to foster the students speaking skills which involved the first semester students in Basic English course. Besides, the students engage actively in describing their experiences and showing visual background, which was assisted by a technological application available. The practical implication of this project is that the EFL teachers are able to deploy digital storytelling in their classroom as a medium to bridge learners through meaningful context and social practices.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss one of the local cultures in the form of dance and its integration in English language learning in an effort to preserve the local culture and promote students' cultural awareness. The research design deployed was descriptive qualitative. Two art practitioners served as the subjects of the study and the data were obtained through an interview process. The data were analyzed using four steps data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. In addition, library study was also used to understand and study theories from various literature or sources related to the study. The findings showed that Lahbako Dance tells the story of the tobacco processing process starting from harvesting to packaging. In its development, the dance is modified because of the need for innovation and adaptation to developments and promoting its sustainability. In language teaching, its success depends on the use of teaching materials that accurately reflect authentic language use and cultural settings. Lahbako Dance can be inserted into the teaching and learning activities as an authentic material that can promote students' language skills, motivation, and cultural awareness. By doing so, local culture can also be well-preserved. Further studies related to the developments of other authentic materials are suggested.

Abstract

Blackberries are the superior commodity cultivated organically in the Twelve's Gardens. This research aims to determine the growth response of Blackberry plants due to the application of manure (goat manure) in Eleven's organic garden. The method used compares two treatments on the same land with different beds. These results were obtained from four weeks of observations, with two treatments in four plots, that were different treatments, each treatment using the same two plots. Treatments for the first two plots are to apply manure evenly, and for the next two beds, there is no manure at all. That observation aims to determine the growth response of the Blackberry plant, due to the application of manure (goat manure) in the Twelve's Organic Garden. Apart from that, observations were done to see the comparisons of plant growth given manure and without manure through production results. Providing manure (goat) at a dose of 25kg/24 greatly influenced the growth response of blackberry plants in B1 and B2 with condition plant height, number of leaves, and number of new shoots. The treatment of providing goat manure on blackberry plants resulted in a greater growth in the number of leaves compared to the treatment without fertilization using goat manure
