Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of using the reciprocal teaching approach in teaching reading comprehension to the second grade (year 11) students of SMA Negeri 2 Lhoksukon. This study employed a true experimental design in which there were two classes as the sample, one as the experimental and the other as the control class. The experimental group was taught by using the reciprocal teaching approach, while the control group was taught by using the teacher centered approach. In collecting the data, a test and a questionnaire were used, and then the collected data were analyzed by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) Version 22. Before the data were processed into further inferential statistics, the normality and the homogeneity of the data were examined. The results of the normality and homogeneity tests showed that the data were normal (sig. 0.20 and 0.12) and homogeneous (sig. 0.63). Based on the t-index from the analysis, it was found there was a significant difference between both groups as 0.17 is higher than α=0.05. The findings indicate that the students taught by using the reciprocal teaching approach achieved significantly better scores in reading comprehension than those taught by using the teacher centered approach. Hence, the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. Moreover, the result of the data analysis from the questionnaire indicated that almost all the students responded positively towards the use of the reciprocal teaching approach since it effectively improved their reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

A successful process of English teaching and learning has been considered as an ultimately major goal in Indonesian high-schools, including in integrated Islamic high-schools known with doubled-curriculum  schools. To mention further,  this agenda  tightens students’ academic activities as other subjects also bring about numerous high standard motives and goals. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of this compact curricular agenda towards the process of English Teaching and learning from the teacher’s perspectives. The curricular agenda at SMP IT Az-Zahra Takengon was SWOT-analyzed regarding its effect to the process of English teaching and learning at the school. In significance, this study is expected to broaden the knowledge of stakeholders of high-school curriculum management in developing the curricular academic activities in more deliberately careful ways in the purpose of reaching the goal protocols. The method used in this study was mainly qualitative approach through interviews which solely sheds light on the description of the academic agenda in the congruence of English teaching and learning process through interviews with the English teacher at the school. The result showed that the strength is that it has risen the students’ motivation whether in learning English or other subjects since the school provides various curricular activities, instead of monotonous ones, that loosen the students’ boredom and tension. The weakness is that full academic agenda leads to the condition where lots of English lessons are left untaught from which we eventually see that it are a management failure. The opportunity from the agenda is that the students are exposed to multi-disciplinary material abundance. Finally, the thread is that realizing the students with low motivation in English would seemingly remove English into their blacklists as a result of exhaustion.

Abstract

This research is a case study. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of implementing a flipped classroom for English course and analyse students’ perceptions of the implementation of the Flipped Classroom in teaching English for the nursing students of Nursing Academy of Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The participant in this study were 50 students of Nursing Academy of Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh in the academic year 2020/2021. They consist of 4 male students and 46 female students. Data collection methods in this study are lecturer’s observation checklist, teacher’s fieldnote and questionnaires. Lecturer's observation checklist in the form of a checklist for implementing the flipped classroom strategy at each meeting. Lecturer’s fieldnote is some notes that found while flipped classroom was implemented.  Questionnaires are used to obtain results from student opinions and student experiences in Flipped Classroom. More than half of students felt that Flipped classroom aided their English studies. Most of the students enjoyed the flipped classroom learning and believed that this method can support their learning. This implies that the method is still useful for EFL classroom of  ELT context. .

Abstract

This research is a descriptive correlative study. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and relationship of English extracurricular activities (English Club) on the English learning achievement of nursing students. This research took place at the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The population in this study were all students of the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The samples are students of 2018/2019 who take part in English extracurricular activities as many as 50 students. Data collection methods in this study are the documentation and the questionnaire. Documentation is used to obtain data about the names and number of students who become research respondents. The questionnaire was used to find out students' opinions about English extracurricular activities. The data was analysed in term of percentage by using statistic descriptive SPSS 16.0 and Ms Excel 2013. The results of this study are the researchers found that the average value of students' perceptions reached 82.3% which means students strongly agree with the existence of English language extracurricular activities to support the improvement of their English learning achievement. The data is strengthened by the results of documentation of students' English grades. From the results of the analysis showed that English extracurricular activities proved to have an effect on students' English learning achievement.

Abstract

This study focused on teaching vocabulary by using comic strips in Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School Banda Aceh. The aims of study are to investigate whether it is effective to increase students’ motivation in mastering vocabulary by using comic strips and to find out the obstacles faced by the students in using them. The total population of this research was 215 students. The samples of the research are students of class IIA consisted of 21 students of Al-Manar Modern Islamic Boarding School Banda Aceh. The data were obtained from the students by observation, interview, and test. Statistically, the final result of this study is effective. The post test scores are slightly higher than pretest. The researcher applied independent sample t-test calculation to test the hypothesis to analyze the data. The Degree of Freedom (df) is 20. At level of significant 5% and 1% (2,09 and 2,84), the score of t-test (t0) is bigger than ttable : 2,09 < 4,87 > 2,83. Consequently, the hypothesis is accepted. As the result, the hypothesis of this thesis is proved. Therefore, it is effective to increase students’ motivation in mastering vocabulary. It also shows that comic strips help them in learning vocabulary become easier. It can be concluded that teaching vocabulary by using comic strips can be a good motivation for the students. Students have motivation in increasing vocabulary by using it. It made them more spirit and they do not feel sleepy in the class. The class also can be more active. Hence, comic strips can be used to teach English vocabulary to the students. The obstacles faced by the students in using comic strips are limited time provided and the difficulty in memorizing and recognizing words.

Abstract

Background: The National Disaster Management Agency noted that in the period of 2020 there have been 2,925 natural disasters. Aceh is a province that is prone to disasters such as being prone to flash floods, landslides, and earthquakes. This series of natural phenomena has made the people of Aceh familiar with various disasters. One of the ways to prevent the number of victims in a disaster is to have volunteers around the community, namely health cadres. Health cadres are trained as monitors, reminders and advocates to promote health so that it is possible for cadres to have the ability to perform basic life support in the event of an emergency. Purpose: to increase the knowledge and skills of health cadres about BHD training in the community during an emergency. Methods: BHD training activities are carried out for cadres who have not received training. Socialization to cadres about BHD through lectures, questions and answers, and demonstrations using Phantom BHD. The activity was carried out in 3 sessions with the details of the activities. They were pretest activity in the form of filling out questionnaires by the participants, providing material on BHD that must be accepted by cadres, and posttest on the knowledge and understanding of cadres about material that has been given. Results: The results obtained were an increase in the knowledge of cadres from a low level of knowledge of 5.7% to a high level of 68.6%. This shows that there is a change in the level of knowledge and understanding of cadres about basic life support. Conclusion: After this community service, the ability of cadres to carry out basic life support increases so that it is expected to increase life expectancy in the community in the event of an emergency

Abstract

Abstract : Genetic relationship of language analysis is discuss in the Historical Comparative Linguistics. In the Historical Comparative Linguistics, languages are be compared one to others in order to trace the level of theirs genetic relationship. Angkola Mandailing, Java, and Aceh languages are some languages which live side by side as geographically. So, it may be assumed that they have a close genetic relationship. In fact, this three languages have far differences so it is necessary to make a research in order to find the level of their relationship. The genetic of language can be analysis with lexicostatistic technique. The indicator use to determine genetically word is basic vocabulary called Swadesh which has 200 vocabularies. It is assumed existing in all languages in the world. The qualitative approach is use in the lexicostatistic accounting. With using the technique it is found that from the tree languages which be compared, the closing relationship is Angkola Mandailing with Aceh language, more over Angkola Mandailing with Java language, and the most far apart relationship is Java language with Aceh language.Keyword : Genetic relationship, lexicostatistic, Angkola Mandailing language, Java language, and Aceh languageAbstrak :Kajian kekerabatan bahasa dibahas dalam Linguistik Historis Komparatif. Dalam Linguistik Historis Komparatif, bahasa-bahasa dibandingkan satu dengan yang lain guna mengetahui tingkat kekerabatannya. Bahasa Angkola Mandailing, bahasa Jawa, dan bahasa Aceh merupakan bahasa-bahasa yang hidup berdekatan secara geografi sehingga diasumsikan memiliki kekerabatan yang erat. Pada kenyataannya, ketiga bahasa ini memiliki perbedaan yang cukup jauh sehingga dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui tingkat kekerabatannya. Kekerabatan bahasa dapat diketahui dengan teknik leksikostatistik. Indikator yang digunakan untuk menentukan kata berkerabat adalah kosa kata dasar yang disebut kosa kata dasar Swadesh yang berjumlah dua ratus kosa kata yang dianggap ada pada semua bahasa di dunia. Pendekatan kuantitatif digunakan dalam perhitungan leksikostatistik ini. Dengan menggunakan teknik ini, diketahui bahwa dari ketiga bahasa yang dibandingkan, hubungan kekerabatan yang paling erat terdapat pada bahasa Angkola Mandailing dengan bahasa Aceh, selanjutnya bahasa Angkola Mandailing dengan bahasa Jawa, dan hubungan kekerabatan yang paling renggang adalah bahasa Jawa dengan bahasa Aceh.Kata kunci: kekerabatan, leksikostatistik, bahasa Nias, bahasa Batak, bahasa Melayu

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine nursing students' perceptions of English Club activities. This research was conducted at the Kesdam Iskandar Muda Nursing Academy Banda Aceh (AKIMBA) with a sample of 50 students who joined in English Club activities. The data collection method in this study was a questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to find out students' perceptions of English Club activities. The result of this study showed that the average score of student perceptions was 82.3%. It means that students totally agree with the activities of English Club at AKIMBA and it has a very important role in enhancing the nursing students’ interest in English learning. English Club activities can increase the motivation of nursing students in learning. The students feel fun and enthusiastic while gaining the material of the English Club.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease that is increasing every year in countries around the world. Reports from various regions in Indonesia show that the incidence and complications of DM are widespread, making it a national problem that requires more attention. A frequently encountered complication of DM is diabetic foot, which can manifest as ulcers, infection and gangrene. Actions to treat diabetic foot include preventive measures which include foot care education, diabetic shoes and foot exercises. Foot exercises are exercises carried out by DM sufferers and non-sufferers to prevent injuries and help improve blood circulation in the legs. Apart from their role in providing health education, nurses as members of the medical team can also play a role in teaching foot exercises so that DM patients are able to do foot exercises independently. Objective: To increase the knowledge and skills of DM sufferers by implementing foot exercises in an effort to prevent diabetes complications in the feet (diabetic foot). Method: Foot exercise activities are carried out on DM sufferers who do not have wounds on the feet. The methods used were lectures, questions and answers, and direct demonstrations using newspapers. Results: The results of the activities obtained were an increase in knowledge before and after providing counseling and demonstrations of foot exercises for DM sufferers. Conclusion: After carrying out this community service, the community's ability to do foot exercises has increased and can be done independently, so it is hoped that this can prevent complications in DM sufferers.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa global yang wajib dikuasai oleh masyarakat di zaman ini. Maka dari itu, penting untuk mengajarkan dan mengenalkan bahasa inggris kepada anak- anak sejak dini. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kemampuan short and long-term memory anak masih cepat dalam menguasai Bahasa karena semakin dini anak belajar bahasa asing. Kegiatan Pemberdayaan Berbasis Masyarakat (PBM) ini dilaksanakan di Gampong Batee Linteung Kabupaten Aceh Besar pada sebuah tempat Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD) Ceria Sabeena Kids II. Para guru yang ada di sekolah tersebut tidak memiliki latar belakang Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris sehingga di sana mereka mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris seadanya kepada siswa-siswanya. Maka sangat penting bagi para guru tersebut untuk mendapatkan program berupa pelatihan cara mengajar Bahasa Inggris menggunakan teknologi sehingga mudah dipahami oleh para peserta didik dan pembelajaran pun menjadi lebih menyenangkan. Guru-guru di sana membutuhkan bimbingan dalam menerapkan media pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris digital berbasis multimedia. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada hari Selasa tanggal 8 Juni 2024. Jumlah peserta yang terlibat adalah 8 orang guru PAUD. Adapun solusi yang ditawarkan dalam kegiatan PBM ini adalah 1) Meningkatkan kualitas guru-guru PAUD mitra melalui pelatihan pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan media digital Comic strips menggunakan aplikasi Canva, dan 2) Pendampingan bagi guru serta praktik pengajaran bahasa Inggris di kelas.
