Abstract

The purpose of this research is to increase the English vocabulary of students with special needs. One of the online learning platforms use in this research is Kahoot!. The research subjects were SLB D YPAC Semarangstudents who were members of the Y-EClub Semarang. The research method used descriptive qualitative. The results of the research are the members of Y-Eclub SLB D YPAC Semarang using Kahoot! in learn English. They were able to catch the English vocabulary. Conclusion of this research is that Kahoot! as the internet-based platform is an effective medium in English teaching so that students could memorize English Vocabulary.

Abstract

There is a close relationship between the structure of words and the structure of sentences. In some languages it is even difficult to tell whether a particular word formation is a word or a sentence. Language acquisition theory has advanced in  many ways since Brown (1973), but we are still dealing with many of the same basic methodological issues be confronted, Elaborating on Brown's approach, researchers have formulated increasingly reliable methods for measuring the growth of grammar, or morphosyntax, in the child. In this paper, the writer tries to study the morphosyntax acquisition in Indoneian childrn age 3 years. This is a basic research before continuing the next study in children's second language acquisition.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Kebangkitan dunia perfilman Indonesia telah dimulai pada tahun 2000 diawali dengan pemutaran film Petualangan Sherina di beberapa bioskop di Indonesia. Suksesnya penayangan film tersebut membangkitkan semangat sineas-sineas muda untuk memproduksi film dalam negeri. Hal ini ditunjukkan pada tahun-tahun selanjutnya dengan marak bermunculan film-film lokal dengan bermacam-macam genre. Tema yang paling sering muncul, seperti yang telah kita ketahui, adalah tema percintaan remaja dan horor. Bak jamur di musim penghujan, kedua tema tersebut tak pelak mendominasi dunia perfilman Indonesia 8 tahun terakhir. Inilah mengapa banyak para kritikus perfilman menyebut Indonesia sebagai negara jamur. Ketika satu tema film meledak di pasaran, dalam hitungan bulan muncul pula film-film ber-genre serupa. Namun, bagaimanakah kualitas film-film tersebut dibandingkan kuantitasnya? Layakkah pula film-film tersebut dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat? Pantaskah jika beberapa film tersebut menerima penghargaan? Metode: Penelitian ini akan menerapkan metode deskriptif-kualitatif. Disebut deskriptif karena merupakan metode penelitian yang mendeskripsikan sebuah situasi atau area permasalahan secara sistematis, faktual dan akurat (Isaac dan Michael, 1971:42). Penelitian ini juga disebut kualitatif dikarenakan tidak bergantung pada statistik data dan jumlah data yang ada dimunculkan untuk mendeskripsikan fenomena yang diteliti. Hasil: Dari sepuluh film diambil 4 sampel yaitu “Gie”, “Ekskul”, “Nagabonar Jadi 2”, dan “Fiksi”. Keempatnya merupakan peraih penghargaan Film Terbaik FFI di tahunnya masing-masing. Dari keempat film tersebut penulis menilai film Gie sebagai film yang terbaik yang baik dan layak ditonton oleh semua umur. Khusus untuk anak-anak mungkin tetap masih diperlukan bimbingan orang tua. Terutama dalam menjelaskan cerita yang berkaitan dengan sejarah bangsa Indonesia. Alasan film ”Gie” dianggap penulis paling baik dan layak ditonton adalah berdasarkan analisis yang penulis paparkan. Yaitu bahwa film ini memiliki style bahasa yang paling lengkap dibanding film-film yang lain. Selain itu fungsi bahasa serta domain yang terdapat dalam film ini juga lebih banyak. Simpulan: Penulis berpendapat bahwa semakin banyak dan lengkap domain dan fungsi bahasa terdapat dalam sebuah film maka film tersebut akan mampu merangkul semua kalangan. Penulis menemukan bahwa film-film yang meraih penghargaan Piala Citra FFI tidak selalu laku di pasaran, begitu pula sebaliknya. Karena penghargaan seputar film itu sendiri masih selalu diliputi dengan kontroversi.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the language sounds produced by India speakers, to enrich the scientific realm of language sounds and to stimulate the students to deeply examine other foreign language sounds. For the purpose of the study, the researcher collected data from several sources. The data which were in the form of theoretical research literature were obtained from books in general linguistics, especially on Phonology, both English and Indonesian. For data or material which were in the form of research material to be studied, the researcher presented a native speaker of Indian language named Kour Herbinder. This research is a qualitative research with recording and note technique. To analyze the data, the researcher used phonetics chart, both for cconsonants and vowels. From the analysis result, the researcher found that the sounds in India language are dominated by alveolar sounds like usually pronounced by speakers of Indonesian Balinese dialect. The researcher also found that there are many variations of Indian language sound as allophones, such as sound [k '] is an allophone of [k], and sound [dh] is an allophone of [d]. The pronunciation of sound [t], [d] and [k] dominantly resembles with [t], [d] and [k] on Indonesian Balinese.Keywords: phonetics ; phonemics ; alveolar ; allophone

Abstract

This research purpose is to enhance the English ability of Students with Special Needs in learning English vocabulary. The use of online learning media now was needed especially on distance learning in which Schooling from Home is the only choice during the pandemic era. The use of Kahoot! meet the needs of online teaching-learning activity. The research subjects were an English club in SLB D YPAC Semarang. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. The research result is the English ability enhancement in gaining the new vocabularies. The result is satisfying, students of SLB D YPAC Semarang were highly motivated in using Kahoot! Because they can directly see the winner podium. The final conclusion stated that utilizing Kahoot! Could enhance the English vocabulary for Students with Special Needs.

Abstract

On this occasion USM community service team had the opportunity to carry out community service activities at Rumah Shalom Orphanage Semarang. We found most children there difficult to memorize new vocabularies in English. To help our partners solve the problems, the team applies Total Physical Responses (TPR) method with a face to face lecture and discussion (question and answer) approach as well as training or practice methods. Students are asked to follow and answer the vocabulary that has been taught using the music video. After the activity conducted, it can be concluded that the objectives of the service activities at Rumah Shalom Orphanage can be achieved. The material we deliver is very encouraging, informative and new understanding to students about new vocabulary in English. The participants are also able to understand and memorize new vocabulary in English easily.

Abstract

As the popularity of flipped learning environments continues to rise, with online content delivery and in-class activities, there is a growing necessity to assess students' readiness to participate in online work and be prepared for class. Consequently, understanding students' perspectives on Game-Based Learning (GBL) in an English Business Writing class becomes crucial. This research employed a survey to examine 59 students attitudes towards Game-Based Learning (GBL) in a flipped classroom on 4th semester Economics Faculty university students in English Business Writing class. The result of the study shows that students give positive feedback and have positive attitudes towards the use of GBL in the English Business Writing class. These findings can support educators in anticipating student apprehensions and successfully integrating a flipped learning approach in undergraduate courses, particularly in English Business Writing classes.

Abstract

AbstrakPengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan mensosialisasikan pemahaman teknis pencegahan penyebaran Covid-19 kepada masyarakat kelurahan pedalangan dalam menghadapi pilkada serentak 2020. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitataif melalui pretest dan postest sebagai alat untuk menganalisis berbagai macam masalah. Pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan jalan keluar terhadap berbagai kekurangan pemahahaman dan kesadaran dalam melaksanakan protokol kesehatan yang sesuai dengan anjuran pemerintah pusat dalam menghadapi Pilkada 2020.  Kata Kunci : masyarakat, pencegahan covid-19, peningkatan pemahaman  AbstractThis community service aims to socialize a technical understanding of the prevention of the spread of Covid-19 to the people of Pedalangan sub-district in facing the 2020 regional elections. Abstract

AbstrakDalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini tim pengabdi menangkap permasalahan yang dihadapi para guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris, yaitu dibutuhkannya model pembelajaran yang atraktif, kreatif, dan menarik yang memicu peserta didik untuk berpartisipasi secara aktif di kelas dan menikmati proses belajar mengajar sehingga ketrampilan berbahasa Inggris mereka meningkat. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk melatih ketrampilan peserta didik untuk berpikir kritis dan aktif dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas melalui media gambar berseri.Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah metode ceramah dan diskusi, serta praktik. Metode ceramah adalah dengan memberikan penjelasan mengenai manfaat media gambar berseri dan bagaimana menggunakan gambar berseri dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Setelah para peserta didik dibekali dengan berbagai informasi tentang media gambar berseri, mereka dipandu untuk melakukan praktik bercerita.Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini menunjukkan partisipasi aktif dari tiap kelompok peserta didik ketika melakukan sesi diskusi. Kegiatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di dalam kelas menjadi lebih menarik dan atraktif. Para peserta didik saling memberikan komentar terhadap cerita yang dipresentasikan masing-masing kelompok. Penguasaan kosakata peserta didik juga lebih baik karena terbantu dengan adanya visual gambar. Secara umum penggunaan media gambar berseri dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris membantu peserta didik menjadi lebih partisipatif dan aktif di kelas.  Kata Kunci: ketrampilan berbicara; penguasaan kosakata; keaktifan peserta didik; gambar berseri    AbstractIn this community service activity, the service team captures the problems faced by English teachers, namely the need for an attractive, creative, and interesting learning model that triggers students to actively participate in class and enjoy the teaching and learning process so that their English skills increase. The purpose of this community service is to train students' skills to think critically and be active in learning English in the classroom through sequencing picture media.The method used in this community service is the lecture and discussion method, as well as practice. The lecture method is to provide an explanation of the benefits of using sequencing pictures and how to use it in learning English. After the students were provided with various information about this media, they were guided to practice storytelling.The results of this community service activity show the active participation of each group of students when conducting discussion sessions. English learning activities in the classroom become more interesting and attractive. The students give each other comments on the stories presented by each group. Students' vocabulary mastery is also better because it is helped by the presence of visual images. In general, the use of picture series media in learning English helps students to be more participative and active in class.  Keywords: speaking skill; vocabulary mastery; students activeness; sequencing picture
