Abstract

Understanding English text types (genres) is not an easy thing. In this case, someone should be able to understand the message from the text and analyze the text structure.This paper describes the use of comic as media to help the eighth grade students of SMP IPIEMS Surabaya in understanding the English text types (genres), especially narrative text. The result of the research in general showed that (1) the students were very interested in reading comic because the pictures and the stories shown in comic were very interesting; (2) comic can motivate the students to read; and (3) comics, both comic strips and comic books are one of the learning media which are very helpful for students to understand the English text types (genres), especially narrative texts.

Abstract

This study examined the responses of 7th-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Sidoarjo to the ELSA Speak application and its impact on enhancing their English-speaking skills. The research aimed to evaluate student feedback on ELSA Speak and assess its influence on their language learning outcomes. A descriptive qualitative approach was utilized, incorporating closed-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to analyze technology adoption and usage. Despite the challenges, ELSA Speak significantly improved students' speaking skills. While there were technical issues related to the difference in access between free and premium versions, the overall positive impact on student engagement and proficiency highlighted ELSA Speak's potential as a valuable educational tool.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini mengkaji efektivitas program pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) dalam meningkatkan kesadaran pendidikan karakter melalui metode fun-gaming bagi ibu-ibu anak usia dini di Desa Buduran. Studi ini mengatasi dua masalah utama: rendahnya pemahaman ibu tentang pendidikan karakter dan kurangnya media edukasi interaktif. Menggunakan pendekatan penelitian tindakan partisipatif, program intervensi dilaksanakan dalam empat sesi. Data dikumpulkan melalui survei, observasi, dan wawancara semi-terstruktur. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta tentang prinsip pendidikan karakter dan keterlibatan aktif mereka dalam perkembangan moral anak. Pendekatan fun-gaming terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang menarik, meningkatkan partisipasi orang tua dalam pendidikan karakter di rumah. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada literatur pendidikan karakter anak usia dini dengan mendemonstrasikan efektivitas pendekatan gamifikasi dalam meningkatkan keterlibatan orang tua dan perkembangan moral anak.
