Abstract

Research on the effect of giving trash fish at different times to mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) in fruit basket media was carried out from October to December 2023. This research was carried out in Sapat Village, Kuala Indragiri District. The aim of this research was to determine the growth of mangrove crabs using the dry method in fruit baskets by feeding them at different times, namely morning, afternoon and evening. The results of the research showed that the average growth of Mangrove Crabs at breakfast time was 2,0 gr, the average growth of Mangrove Crabs at lunch time was 1.6 gr, the average growth of Mangrove Crabs at dinner time days amounting to 4,4 gr. The most effective growth is when feeding at night, while growth in the morning and afternoon of crab weight is less effective because crabs are more active at night. In the dry method, crabs experience moulting ± 60 days later than the aeration method.

Abstract

The use of Ovaprim hormone in catfish breeding is one of the artificial reproduction technologies (induced breeding) that has proven effective in enhancing the quality and quantity of fish seeds. This community service activity aims to provide education and practical training to students and catfish farmers on the proper and efficient techniques for administering Ovaprim hormone injections. The activity was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory of Indragiri Islamic University, which serves as a center for fish farming education. The method used in the injection practice was an experimental approach that included direct demonstrations and technical assistance. After the training, participants showed an increased understanding in selecting mature gonad breeders and correctly administering hormone injections. The results of the spawning demonstrated an average success rate exceeding 80%, with a production volume of seeds that showed an increase compared to natural methods. Several fish farmers stated that after this activity, they felt more confident in conducting their own spawning and began to innovate with more efficient pond systems and hatching techniques. Through practical training and assistance, both students and fish farmers acquired new technical knowledge, such as how to select fish breeders ready for spawning, proper injection techniques, egg and larva handling, water quality management, and pond sanitation. This has helped farmers become more independent and professional in running their aquaculture businesses. It is hoped that similar activities can be conducted continuously so that this technology can be widely adopted to enhance aquaculture productivity and the welfare of fish farmers.ABSTRAKPenggunaan hormon ovaprim dalam pembenihan ikan lele merupakan salah satu teknologi reproduksi buatan (Induced breeding) yang terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan kuantitas benih.

Abstract

This community service training program aims to enhance students' competencies in using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, specifically ArcGIS, for spatial data mapping and analysis. The significance of GIS in various fields, such as agriculture, environmental management, and urban planning, has grown, making it a valuable skill for students to acquire. The training was conducted in a hands-on format, combining theoretical lectures, practical exercises, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to promote active learning and collaboration. The participants, primarily students from the University of Islam Indragiri, were taught to collect geospatial data using Avenza Maps, process the data using ArcGIS, and create basic maps. The results showed a substantial improvement in the participants’ understanding and practical skills, with an average increase in comprehension of 42%. The program was highly appreciated by the participants, who found it beneficial for both their academic studies and future career prospects. In conclusion, the training successfully enhanced students' GIS proficiency, which is crucial for their academic development and employment opportunities, particularly in fields that require geospatial analysis and mapping skills.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the understanding and participation of the residents of Sapat Village in developing the local ecotourism potential, including mangrove ecotourism, fishing, fireflies, sailing, beaches, and the socio-cultural heritage of fishermen’s communities. The program involved socialization, discussions, and the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method to gain deeper insights into community perspectives and assess readiness for ecotourism development. Following the activities, an evaluation was conducted to assess participants' understanding before and after the program. The results showed a significant improvement, particularly in mangrove and firefly ecotourism, with an increase in the awareness of sustainable ecosystem management. However, the potential for beach ecotourism is less favorable due to environmental limitations, such as muddy substrates and tidal conditions. The community expressed strong support for technical assistance and training to develop ecotourism initiatives, especially mangrove and fishing activities, which are expected to boost local incomes and conservation efforts. This programme highlights the importance of continuous mentoring, capacity building, and monitoring to ensure the sustainability and economic impact of community-based ecotourism
