Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of the scientific method in Social Studies (IPS) learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary Schools) to enhance students’ critical thinking abilities. Social Studies plays a crucial role in deepening students’ understanding of social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects while fostering empathy and a sense of responsibility. However, the continued use of traditional, teacher-centered methods has limited the optimal development of students’ critical thinking skills.Through a literature review of five scholarly articles, this study reveals that the application of the scientific approach comprising the stages of observing, questioning, reasoning, experimenting, and communicating positively influences students’ active participation, conceptual understanding, and analytical thinking abilities. Nevertheless, questioning and verbal communication skills still require improvement through sustained teacher guidance. Overall, the scientific method has proven effective in creating dynamic and contextual Social Studies learning that emphasizes the development of students’ critical thinking and higher-order thinking skills essential for the 21st century.

Abstract

This literature review examines the concept of Islamic educational leadership, focusing on the integration of Prophetic leadership values. The review synthesizes existing research to explore the historical and contemporary context of Islamic education, the principles of Prophetic leadership, and the potential for developing a leadership model that aligns with Islamic values. Methodologically, the review employs a systematic approach, analyzing relevant scholarly articles, books, and reports. The findings reveal a significant gap in the literature regarding the practical application of Prophetic leadership principles in modern educational settings. The review highlights key themes such as ethical conduct, justice, compassion, and consultation as central to Prophetic leadership. Furthermore, it discusses the challenges and opportunities in implementing such a model, including the influence of Western educational systems and the need for contextualization. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of a leadership model that fosters both academic excellence and spiritual development, ultimately promoting a holistic approach to education that reflects the values of Islam. This review aims to provide a foundation for future research and practice in Islamic educational leadership, offering insights into how educational leaders can embody the qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to guide and inspire their communities.

Abstract

Rice stem borer (Scirpophaga sp.) is considered as one of the primary pests causing yield decrease in Indonesia. Genetic engineering is considered as one of the most effective way to improve the resistance of rice plants to yellow stem borer since no resistance gene has been found in rice and its wild relatives. A double T-DNA binary vector p2TDNAcryIAb wich carry two independent T-DNA was used to transform Indonesian elite rice cv Ciherang using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation to generate transgenic rice that free from selectable marker genes. One T-DNA containing a selectable marker hygromycin phosphotransferase (hpt) gene and the other carrying the cry1Ab gene. As many as 37 putative transgenic plants from 14 embryos were generated. PCR analysis demonstrated that 22 out of 37 putative transgenic rice contain cry1Ab gene. All Ciherang rice carrying the cry1Ab gene expressing Cry1Ab protein as shown by the immunostrip assay. Further work will be carried out to determine the transgenes copy number, to select marker free transgenic rice, and to evaluate the resistance of transgenic rice against neonates larvae of yellow stem borer.

Abstract

Transgenic rice plants harboring resistant gene to yellow stem borer, cry1B gene had been obtained. However, the cry1B gene in second generation of transgenic rice lines still segregating following Mendelian ratio 3:1. For further use in the breeding programs, it is important to ensure that the gene is dominant gene and the plants are homozygous for cry1B gene. Selection of homozygous transgenic rice lines containing cry1B gene at third, fourth and fifth generation had been conducted by PCR. The presence of cry1B gene was determined by showing the PCR product of 1.9 kb. Segregation analysis proved that six transgenic rice lines i.e. 3R7.8.15.1, 3R7.8.15.9, 3R7.8.15.10, 3R7.8.15.15, 3R7.8.15.21, 3R7.8.15.29 are homozygous lines for cry1B gene. Moreover, bioassay studies at vegetative stage on six homozygous transgenic rice lines showed that these transgenic rice lines are potential resistant to yellow stem borer comparing with non-transgenic plants, with the score of 0 (indicated no symptom) for six transgenic lines and score of 9 (more than 60% damaged tillers ) for non-transgenic plants. However, to confirm the efficacy of cry1B gene to yellow stem borer in natural condition, confined field trial in endemic area of yellow stem borer should be conducted.

Abstract

Generation Z is known as the group most familiar with technology, making them more susceptible to using paylater services. Self-control and hedonistic tendencies are assumed to play a role in influencing their financial management behavior. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control, hedonism, and financial management among paylater users in Bandar Lampung. The research design used was quantitative correlational with 332 participants aged 17–28 years selected through purposive sampling. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that self-control and hedonism had a significant effect on financial management with a significance level of 0.01 < 0.05. Partially, self-control has a strong positive influence (p=0.001) and an effective contribution of 14.9%, while hedonism shows a significant negative influence (p=0.004) and an effective contribution of 5.5%. These findings confirm that self-control is more dominant in shaping healthy financial management behavior than hedonism, which tends to have the opposite effect.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between workplace spirituality and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among healthcare professionals in Christian faith-based hospitals. A quantitative research design was employed using a total sampling technique involving 113 full-time employees. The workplace spirituality scale was developed based on Milliman’s conceptualization, encompassing three dimensions meaningful work, sense of community, and alignment with organizational values (α = 0.956). The OCB scale was constructed following Organ’s framework, consisting of five dimensions: altruism, conscientiousness, sportsmanship, courtesy, and civic virtue (α = 0.940). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a very strong and significant relationship between workplace spirituality and OCB (r = 0.961; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that workplace spirituality plays a critical role in enhancing organizational citizenship behavior among healthcare professionals.
