Abstract

Synthetic batik coloring often uses heavy metals element such as lead (Pb), chromium (Cr),silica (Si), and hydrochloric acid (HCl). The exposure of heavy metals in long period results in health impair on the artisans and eventually harming the environment. The purpose of this research is to analyze the waste characteristics and health impact towards the artisans in the Lendah, Kulon Progo. Seventy-six batik artisan, consisting of 37 from SB, 20 from FA, and 19 from SA underwent 5 ml blood sampling. The samples were used to determine their hemoglobin (Hb) level, packed cell volume (PCV), blood sugar, and total cholesterol. Blood plasma and wastewater were examined for Pb and Cr using the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) method; Si using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS); and Cl- using spectrophotometry. Respondents underwent health checks and were interviewed about the impact of waste and disease complaints experienced using a questionnaire. Cognitive disorders were examined using mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and peripheral neuropathy was assessed using diabetic neuropathy symptom (DNS) score. The results obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance and t-test. Correlation test was used to examine the relationship of Pb and Cr with cognitive disorders. Total cholesterol levels and blood sugar were analyzed descriptively. There is no difference in knowledge about waste in batik makers in SB, FA, and SA. The level of Pb, Cr, and Cl- within the three production centers showed no significant difference (p > 0,05), whilst Si level showed significant difference between centers (p < 0,05). There is no correlation between Pb and Cr blood levels with cognitive impairing according to MMSE and occurence of peripheral neuropathy according to DNS score (p > 0.05). Normal cholesterol levels (< 200mg/dL) andnormal blood glucose levels (< 200 mg/dL) were observed in 70.0-80.5% and 85.0-95.1% batik artisans, respectively. Si levels in all three production centers’ waste shows significant difference. The most frequent complaint was back pain and dizziness. There is no correlation caused by Pb and Cr levels toward cognitive impairing. Cholesterol level in batik artisans tended to be high.

Abstract

Sudden death represents a significant global health burden that can affect any population. The potential for sudden death to affect any individual at any time underscores the importance of investigating this issue. The findings of this study may serve to reinforce existing evidence regarding sudden death, thereby facilitating the implementation of additional measures in a timely and appropriate manner. The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of sudden death cases in RSUD dr. Moewardi from 2017 to 2022, identify the socio-demographic profile of the most vulnerable population groups, and ascertain the most predominant system of involvement. Research was conducted with descriptive observational study, cross-sectional design, and purposive sampling. Subject consists of sudden death cases in the Medical Forensic and Medico Legal Installation in RSUD dr. Moewardi from 2017 to 2022. Of the 100 cases, the highest number was observed in 2020, representing 29% of the total cases. Individuals in the pre-elderly age group (39%) and male gender (88%) are most likely to experience sudden death. The primary cause of suspected sudden death is of other systems involvement (57.3%), with the cardiovascular system (54.54%) being the most common cause of sudden death. Sense-related abnormalities are the predominant indicator of past comorbidities in both suspected (56.17%) and sudden death cases (72.72%). The author concluded that pre-elderly male individuals are the most vulnerable to sudden death. The primary cause of suspected sudden death is of the other systems of involvement and the cardiovascular system in sudden death, with sense organ abnormalities being the predominant comorbidity indicator in both instances.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive behavior carried out intentionally and repeatedly, causing the victim to feel hurt and oppressed. This phenomenon is still prevalent among Indonesian adolescents, including in Islamic boarding schools, which are supposed to be centers for instilling Islamic values. This study aimed to describe the level of knowledge about bullying among female students at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Pondok Pesantren Islam Al-Mukmin Ngruki Sukoharjo. The research utilized a descriptive quantitative method, targeting female students in grade XI. A total of 129 respondents were involved using total sampling, and data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results revealed that most female students had a good level of knowledge. Based on majors, the highest knowledge level was found among students in religious studies (98.3%), while based on region, students from outside Solo dominated the good category (97.1%). Raising awareness about bullying can be done through early education that includes its definition, types, effects, and ways to prevent it. These findings can also serve as baseline data for comparing bullying levels among male and female adolescent.

Abstract

Traffic accidents are incidents that have a high incidence and can cause great losses to society. In cases of traffic accidents, it is recorded that many non-productive ages experience serious injuries. This study aims to analyze the pattern of traffic accident injuries in the elderly in Sleman based on Sleman HDSS data for 2020-2022. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was the people of Sleman Regency aged 60 years and over. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Based on the analysis of 272 respondents with 401 cases of injury, it was found that the most injuries occurred in the lower limbs and the degree of injury was mild with the most types of combined injuries. For moderate and severe degrees of injury, they have the same prevalence. Burns are the type of injury with the least, namely only 1 case. The largest number of respondents were elderly people aged 60-70 years, namely 72% of the total respondents. The conclusion of this study is that minor injuries are the most common type of injury, with lower limbs being the most common location of injury and combination injuries being the most common type of injury. In the bivariate results, there was no relationship between age and type, location, and severity. This shows that type, location, and severity can occur at any age and do not differ in each age group.
