Abstract

This study presents the results of a preliminary attempt to assess community acceptance in an Indonesian village where a community-based waste management program is economically more attractive than simply burning or burying the waste. In Karangan Village, Bojonegoro, domestic waste is mostly burnt or buried, contributing to environmental degradation, such as water, soil, and air pollution caused by smoke. Regression analysis was applied to calculate and analyze the data. Photo mapping on current waste management (WM) practices was provided beforehand to identify its effect on the environment. The study indicates that there were about 18 illegal dumping sites in the village, which are frequently open-burnt by villagers, emitting odor and smoke, deteriorating the air quality. Low community participation in rural waste management, only 56.6%, causes improper WM. The study emphasizes the significant role of individual characteristics, age, education, motivation, opinion, willingness to be involved, sense of responsibility, information about 3R and 3R counseling, availability on dissemination, and training on waste management in influencing individuals' participation in community activities. Keywords: rural waste management, waste reduction

Abstract

Village Fund Cash Assistance (BLT-DD) was reintroduced in 2020 as a program by the Indonesian Government to reduce the negative impacts of COVID-19. BLT-DD is distributed to poor people who meet certain eligibility requirements in many rural areas in Indonesia, including Woro Village in Bojonegoro Regency. In implementing the BLT-DD program, strong social capital is needed in determining the target recipients of the program. The research aims to analyze community social capital in the process of selecting applicants for the BLT-DD program. Focus on analyzing social capital element factors, namely trust, networks and norms using Structural Equation Modeling analysis based on Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analysis.. Determining the sample using purposive sampling technique and calculations based on the Kirche Morgan formula obtained a sample of 95 respondents. The results of research on social capital show that trust is the most influential element of the social capital of the Woro Village community. However, there are other elements of social capital, namely networks and norms, that need to be increased. So that overall social capital can support program implementation effectively and on target in supporting post-COVID-19 village recovery.

Abstract

Abstract

Labuan Bajo is one of the villages located in Komodo District, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. This area is known as the gateway to Komodo National Park, which is the natural habitat of the Komodo dragon, one of Indonesia's ancient animals. Labuan Bajo has become a magnet for tourists from around the world thanks to its stunning natural beauty, from exotic beaches and small islands to extraordinary underwater riches. This study aims to provide an understanding of the value of sustainable livelihoods, which will ultimately facilitate the formulation of recommendations for better development and management in the tourist village of Labuan Bajo. The human dimension shows a fairly good score (59.83), indicating that community involvement and capacity are beginning to take shape, although there is still a need for improvement in terms of skills and management. The dimension with the lowest score is finance (35.75), which indicates significant weaknesses in terms of funding, investment, and distribution of economic benefits. This situation makes finance the most vulnerable aspect, which could hinder sustainability if not addressed immediately. Given these weaknesses, it is hoped that future research will expand the variables, adopt more diverse data collection methods (such as in-depth interviews or longitudinal secondary data), and increase the number and distribution of samples to obtain more complete and accurate results.
