Abstract

Introduction of Malang Oranges as a Solution for Soil Conservation and Increasing Farmers' Income in Setren Village, Slogohimo District, Wonogiri Regency. Farmers in Setren Village, Slogohimo District, Wonogiri Regency, located on the slopes of Mount Lawu, face two major challenges: severe land erosion on sloping areas and unstable income due to fluctuations in vegetable prices. This community service activity aimed to introduce Malang citrus cultivation as a dual solution through an adaptive, vegetation-based land conservation approach for sloping land, while simultaneously increasing farmers’ income. The implementation methods included observation of land conditions, extension activities, training, and technical assistance in conservation-based citrus cultivation. The materials emphasized land suitability, which was proven to be highly appropriate (altitude 900–1,400 m above sea level, temperature 18–20°C, Andosol soil), the introduction of three adaptive superior varieties (Siam Madu, Baby Pacitan, and Keprok Batu 55) for sloping land, and cultivation techniques suitable for sloping conditions. Key techniques emphasized included (1) land preparation using terracing systems for erosion mitigation, (2) planting hole preparation with organic manure, (3) selection of certified and healthy seedlings, (4) canopy pruning using a 1–3–9 pattern to maximize productivity, and (5) balanced fertilization. The results of this activity were the transfer of technology and knowledge of modern citrus cultivation to farmers, with a participant satisfaction rate of 58.8%, although strengthening of field-based practice is still required. Malang citrus cultivation is considered potential not only as a more stable source of income, but also as a conservation crop that contributes to erosion control and sustainable land management, and has prospects for development as “pick oranges” agrotourism.

Abstract

Edutourism combines education and tourism, means traveling and learning simultaneously. Most of the people in Wonosari Village live from farming, have opportunity to develop agriculture-based edutourism, which can be realized as a tourist garden with various agricultural plants. The development of edutourism in Wonosari Village aims to educate the surrounding community, especially school-aged children, by introducing various food source plants. It’s also essential to increase local village communities' awareness of the potential of their environment, which can be used as a tourist attraction and an object for agriculture learning. The pioneering activities for the creation of an edutourism park were carried out in several stages, starting with the socialization of the edutourism park, surveying the location for the creation of the edutourism park, planting of crops including corn, chilies, long beans, and eggplant. The next stage is assistance in making organic fertilizers and pesticides, making infographics regarding edutourism gardens, including plant taxonomy, plant water needs, fertilizer needs, cultivation stages, and explanations regarding pests of several types of plants in Wonosari Village. In the final stage, we invited MI students to visit the pioneering educational tourism park. The activity results were the realization of a pilot agricultural plantation with corn, chili, long bean, and eggplant plants and infographics, located in Munggur Hamlet, Wonosari Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency. It can be concluded that Wonosari Village has excellent potential for developing agriculture-based edutourism, which can support the advancement of the welfare of village residents and increase tourists' knowledge about agriculture.

Abstract

Irrigation Pipelining Utilizing Non-Fossil Energy on the Cultivated Land of KTH Wonosewu, Mojogedang, Karanganyar.  Forests serve as ecosystems that function as environmental buffers, hosting diverse flora and fauna, with areas covered by stands of hardwood or perennial plants. The cultivated land of the members of KTH Wonosewu Mojogedang, Karanganyar, is located in hilly terrain where irrigation is difficult to obtain during the dry season. This community service activity aims to provide a solution to overcome drought on the cultivated land of the forest farmer group members, with the expectation that avocado cultivation can be carried out effectively and yield good results. This activity is also supported by Forestry Extension Officers who act as intermediaries between the service team and the forest farmer group, thereby harmonizing the implementation of the program. The community service was conducted from March to November 2023 at the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) Gunung Bromo Karanganyar, Central Java, which serves as the cultivation site for the KTH Wonosewu forest farmer group. The method involved two-way communication between the service team and KTH members to explain the objectives of the activity and to gather feedback or requests from participants related to the program. Subsequently, a pipelining system was developed as a solution to drought, utilizing non-fossil energy through gravity or transmission systems, conveying water through pipes that follow the ups and downs of the land contour. Based on questionnaire data, 100% of the farmer group members responded that the pipelining activity was beneficial, and 86% expressed a desire for continued assistance in managing the irrigation system resulting from this activity.

Abstract

Wonosari Village has quite a lot of rain-fed rice fields. The use of inorganic fertilizers in rice fields can also cause damage to soil structure, decreased fertility of soil microbes, environmental contamination, crop dependency, decline in biodiversity. Liquid organic fertilizer is a solution resulting from the decomposition of organic material originating from plant residues, agro-industrial waste, animal waste and human waste which contains more than one nutrient element. The aims of this service is to train farmers in making liquid organic fertilizer so that it can replace the use of inorganic fertilizers and be applied to their rice fields. The training program was held on February 25 2024 at Embung Munggur located in Wonosari Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency. The method of implementing this activity is carried out in several stages including introduction, implementation and evaluation. The results of the training showed that 80% of farmers who took part in the training understood how to make POC, and 60% wanted to make POC in the future. The post test results also show that community knowledge about LOF is 20% and skills are 60%. And It is hoped that it can continue to be developed so that farmers no longer depend on inorganic fertilizers.

Abstract

Youth associations (Karang Taruna) are a very important organization in the development of the surrounding village area. The existence of youth associations are very important to support and develop. One of the important efforts made is by introducing and teaching social media management, now with social media you will get various information and benefits. With the outreach and training on several social media, it is hoped that it will be able to restore the enthusiasm and awareness of the Cerdas youth association to continue its activities, and it is hoped that it will be able to increase the skills of the youth association members so that they can provide benefits for both the organization, society and themselves. Apart from that, this devotion also aims to find out the hopes of the Cerdas youth association in the future after counseling and training. The method of service activities is carried out using a qualitative descriptive approach, namely through observation, interviews, documentation, and implementation of service programs. The results of the training showed that Cerdas youth association's ability reached more than 95% in the aspects of basic understanding, practice, mastery, and use of social media. The conclusion is that providing counseling and training on several software and applications related to social media, this is able to restore the enthusiasm and awareness of Cerdas youth association to continue its activities, and is able to increase the skills of Youth Organization members so that they can provide benefits for both the organization, society and themselves.

Abstract

Siamese oranges are one of the most widely developed horticultural crops in Indonesia. Arjosari and Ngadirojo are some of the sub-districts that produce Siamese orange in Pacitan Regency. One of the factors that can affect the development of citrus is land quality. This study aims to obtain land quality index data and improvement efforts for developing Siamese orange. Soil samples were taken from 25 land mapping units (LMUs) with 87 sample points. The soil sampling points were determined based on area or sampling density. Data analysis used for soil quality assessment includes correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), minimum data set (MDS), and calculation of climate quality index. The parameters used in this study are bulk density, porosity, moisture content, texture, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation, total N, available P, available K, soil organic carbon (SOC), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), evapotranspiration, temperature, and solar radiation. Based on the results of soil quality analysis in the study area, it has a value range of 0.28 to 0.37, including low class, while the climate quality index is 1.39 with moderate class. The land quality index has a very low to low class with a value of 0.39 to 0.51. Intrinsic, extrinsic, and anthropogenic factors can influence soil quality. The study area’s limiting factors for developing Siamese oranges are EC, total N, and available P, which can be improved by making furrow ponds, adding organic fertilizer, using urea fertilizer, and SP36 according to the dosage.
