Abstract

The Quran, as a guidance for human being, consists of some metaphors (amthal) which can be used by those who would think of it. Metaphor is a means of the Quran to convey its ideas related to any things which lead human being to a better life. Metaphor is able to describe Islamic values better and, even, as it is happened to humans daily life. Therefore, a number of Islamic scholars have studied metaphors in the Quran deeply and seriously as carried out by al-Hakīm al-Tarmizī, al-Mawardī, ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, Az Zarkaszī, as-Suyūtī and others. Knowledge about metaphor in the Qurān is very significant. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration when ash-Shāfi’ī states that a mujtahid should know about metaphor of the Qurān. This article tries to explore some opinions of Muslim scholars about metaphor in the Qur’ān with abroad view of its meaning, purposes and characteristics.

Abstract

Porn or pornography is a treatment of obscene subjects in writing, pictures, mails, etc. Nowadays pornography and porno action have spread throughout the country and caused many moral and familial problems, such as illicit sexuality, infidelity and rape. With regard to porn issues, Qur'anic verses say to the believing men and women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty, that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what ordinarily appear thereof. The believing women should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers or young children who have no attraction of sexual engagement. The rule of modesty applies to men as well as women. A brazen stare by a man at a woman is a breach of refined manners. Where sexual engagement is concerned modesty is not only a good concept of expression, but also in creating balance between protecting the weaker sex and guarding the spirit of the stronger sex. Modesty is equally important for both men and women. Nevertheless the scripture requires that women should be given a greater amount of privacy, especially in terms of dress code, i.e. covering the bosom, than men on the account of sexual specificity and social context.

Abstract

The research explores the efficacy of MPQu-Berkah, a harakah-based digital media, in enhancing tajwid skills among schoolchildren (Elementary Students), specifically focusing on Makhārijul hurūf and Ṣifātul hurūf. Utilizing a Nonequivalent Pretest-posttest Control Group Design, the study compares the tajwid proficiency of students engaging with MPQu-Berkah to those following traditional learning methods. The methodology encompasses pretests and posttests, alongside an independent t-test for statistical analysis, to evaluate the impact of the learning media on Quranic reading accuracy and fluency. Findings reveal a significant improvement in the experimental group's tajwid abilities, highlighted by an 11% average competency increase, evidencing MPQu-Berkah's effectiveness. The developed media, tailored for elementary education in the digital era, features audio-visual content designed to facilitate accessible and engaging tajwid learning. Despite the positive outcomes, the study acknowledges limitations due to its experimental setting and suggests future research to investigate the wider application and sustained impact of digital learning tools in religious education. This research underlines the potential for integrating multimedia tools in educational curricula, proposing a shift towards technology-enhanced learning environments to cater to the digital-native generation's needs. The findings advocate for a paradigm change in Quranic education, indicating that technological integration can substantially improve learning outcomes, contributing to the fields of educational technology and linguistic skill teaching.

Abstract

This paper seeks to shed light on the debate of scientists about the nature of knowledge, its character and sources. The Qur'an is a source of epistemology whose truth cannot be doubted within Islamic tradition. Tracing the function and several verses thematically by analyzing them within the framework of philosophical interpretation, the researchers found that the Qur'an very intensely calls for thinking, contemplating, conducting research and, of course, reading. This research aims to discover in depth the epistemology of Islamic education in the Qur'an and its urgency in the development of Islamic education. This research took a qualitative approach that employed document analysis to obtain data. The results of this study are: (1) Western epistemology consists of rationalism and empiricism schools, while Islamic epistemology consists of bayani schools, burhani schools and 'irfani schools; (2) The approach method in Islamic education's epistemology in the Qur'an consists of rational, intuitive, dialogic, comparative, criticism and 'ibrah methods; (3) The urgency of Islamic education's epistemology in the development of education is to reform Islamic education without eliminating Islamic idealism.

Abstract

This article analyzes the Quranic Hermeneutics according to Nâser Makârem Shîrâzî concerning al-Mahdi theme in al-Amthal Tafseer. He interpreted al-Mahdi’s verses and diverted them to another meaning beyond the text. It is a forced interpretation to fit the desired theme, that Al-Râzî cannot justify, even for a religion’s ideology. A descriptive analytical method using hermeneutic approach on Q.S. al-Anbiya’ [21]:105 is implemented. This approach is applied by textually interpreting the verse followed by an in-depth discussion using ijtihad to justify Shîrâzî’s ideology. Hence, his Quranic Hermeneutics, as associated with Imam al-Mahdi, accommodates two meanings. First, it interprets the Quranic verses textually based on the linguistic principles where no single verse discusses al-Mahdi. Second, conducting an interpretation ijtihad on the verses, referring to the narration of ahl-bayt. He constructs his argument to justify God’s promise regarding the advent of al-Mahdi. Through these steps, he conveys that every Quranic verse contains exoteric (zâhir) and esoteric (bât{in) meanings. Q.S. al-Anbiyâ’ [21]:105 inspires him to perform ta’wîl ijtihadî. The word Zabûr in this verse is confirmed to be the Mazmur verses containing God’s promise, that He will bequeath the earth to the devout people, and tells their characteristics, which are similar to Imam al-Mahdi al-Muntazar’s.

Abstract

The study of the Qur'an in Indonesia is currently undergoing significant transformations to maintain the relevance of its teachings in a modern context. The State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga, particularly the Master's Program in Qur'anic Studies and Interpretation (MIAT), has developed a new approach called tafsīr maqāṣidī, introduced by Abdul Mustaqim in 2019. This approach emphasizes understanding the objectives and principles of Sharia behind the Qur'anic text, allowing for interpretations that are more responsive to contemporary issues. This research aims to critically evaluate the application of tafsīr maqāṣidī in the theses of MIAT students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, focusing on the depth, consistency, and quality of the interpretations, as well as identifying their strengths and weaknesses. The research question posed is: How does the application of tafsīr maqāṣidī enrich Qur'anic studies, and what challenges are faced in its implementation? The methodology used is a qualitative approach applying the reader-response theory, which asserts that the meaning of a text is formed through the interaction between the text and its readers. Analysis of various theses shows that tafsīr maqāṣidī enriches Qur'anic studies by linking the sacred text with contemporary issues such as the environment, governance, and social problems. However, limitations were found in the mastery of Arabic, ushul fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence), classical Islamic texts (turāth), and engagement with contemporary studies, which affect the quality of interpretations. This research impacts a more comprehensive understanding of the application of tafsīr maqāṣidī and identifies areas that need improvement. Recommendations are provided to strengthen competencies in these areas so that tafsīr maqāṣidī can continue to develop and contribute significantly to Qur'anic studies in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Integration of Knowledge has become significant in addressing modern scientific developments, particularly the relationship between science and religion, as secular values influence these sciences. Indonesian universities' scientific paradigm tends to focus on theoretical and philosophical foundations. However, al-Tafsir al-'Ilmi, an Islamic study, examines the relationship between religion and science, specifically Qur'anic verses and empirical sciences. This research aims to: reveal the concept of Tafsir al-'Ilmi according to Zaghloul El-Naggar, whose comprehensive approach aligns with modern scientific developments; and uncover the theory of Integration of Knowledge in Tafsir al-'Ilmi according to him. The research employs Syed Mohd Naquib Al-Attas's Integration of Knowledge theory to read Zaghloul El-Naggar's concept philosophically and applicatively. Using qualitative methods, primary, and secondary data analysis, the Integration of Knowledge according to Zaghloul El-Naggar is found to be based on Syed Mohd Naquib Al-Attas's cosmological principles, including tafsir and ta'wil. Muhkamat verses are understood through tafsir, while mutasyabihat verses through ta'wil. The principles of tafsir also apply to understanding natural phenomena, consisting of muhkamat (clear) and mutasyabihat (ambiguous). Al-tafsir al-'ilmi classifies clearly true scientific facts as muhkamat, while theories, hypotheses, and ongoing discoveries are classified as mutasyabihat.

Abstract

Corruption is a deviant act in which a person abuses the trust given to them in a matter or organization for personal gain. This act is considered a serious crime because it can harm the state's finances. This study aims to explore how Civics Education (PKn) teachers integrate anti-corruption values into the teaching and learning process, particularly through a Quran-based approach. It is hoped that the values derived from the verses of the Quran will leave a deeper and more lasting impression on students. This research was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Weru Lor, Cirebon, using a qualitative descriptive method with observation and interview techniques. The results show that Civics teachers have implemented anti-corruption values in their lessons, directly relating them to the teaching material. These values include honesty, responsibility, work ethic, and justice. All the integrated anti-corruption values refer to teachings contained in the Quran.
