Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that many Muslims are not aware of the urgency of studying the science of hadith and its implementation in life. Therefore, this study aims to examine a hadith related to the prohibition of excessive eating in the book Mu’jam al-Kabir by Imam at-Thabrani as one of the efforts in implementing the science of hadith. This study also aims to provide understanding to the Muslim community to avoid diseases that harm health due to overeating. The result of this research is that in the book Mu’jam al-Kabir, it is explained that the Prophet Muhammad likened people who overeat to unbelievers who are less grateful for the favor of Allah. On the contrary, it is said that a grateful believer will understand how to be right with Allah and not make material things the purpose of his life. Therefore, it can be seen the difference in attitudes and views between Believers and Infidels in receiving Allah’s favor. Using the methodology of takhrij hadith, it can be concluded that the hadith has the degree of shahih, there is no shadz, ‘illah, or defects in the hadith. All narrators of hadith have the nature of Thiqah so that the hadith can be accepted.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of the Quranic worldview in the view of Toshihiko Izutsu. This is important to study because the Qur'an is the holy book of Muslims that significantly influences human life. This Japanese scholar also describes how the relationship between God and man uses semantic analysis. He explained that the relationship between God and man has four parts: ontology, god and servant, ethics, and communication. Izutsu also asserts that communicating with God through the Qur'an is not only read and is a theory but also involves practice. This study uses qualitative methods with a type of literature analysis supplemented by analysis of content to analyze the izutsu concept of worldview, distinguished by systematic method, to accomplish this purpose. As a result, according to him, the Qur'anic worldview separates his beliefs into six categories: namely, the ideas of God and man, the Muslim community, the idea of the visible and invisible, the idea of the Day of Judgment, and the idea of eschatological.

Abstract

The enduring dichotomy between religion and science rooted in historical conflicts during the heyday of Islam and the Western Renaissance has persistently challenged efforts to reconcile the two. In Indonesia, thinkers within State Islamic Higher Education (PTKIN) have proposed the integration-interconnection perspective to bridge this gap. However, after almost two decades, this approach has remained unfamiliar to PTKIN students, including those at Kediri State Institute of Islam. This study aims to assess the reception of PTKIN academics, particularly students from the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Da'wah at Kediri State Institute of Islam, towards the integration of Islam and science, from a Quranic perspective. Conducted as a field research, this study employs a mixed-method approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative methods. This methodological choice sought to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon under investigation. This study focuses on the academic community of Kediri State Institute of Islam. The findings reveal that the majority of students in the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Da'wah at Kediri State Institute of Islam perceived a limited correlation between Islam and science. Their understanding diverges significantly from the intended goals of Islam and science integration at Kediri State Institute of Islam. The Islam and Science course offered by the faculty has emerged as a valuable platform for academics and da'wah activists to communicate the concept of integrating Islam and science to their students and broader community. Emphasizing the need for innovative learning modules related to Islam and Science, this study suggests that this approach can facilitate a deeper appreciation of the interconnection integration among PTKIN students. Ultimately, these efforts aim to overcome the persistent dichotomy between religion and science.

Abstract

The Integration of Knowledge has become significant in addressing modern scientific developments, particularly the relationship between science and religion, as secular values influence these sciences. Indonesian universities' scientific paradigm tends to focus on theoretical and philosophical foundations. However, al-Tafsir al-'Ilmi, an Islamic study, examines the relationship between religion and science, specifically Qur'anic verses and empirical sciences. This research aims to: reveal the concept of Tafsir al-'Ilmi according to Zaghloul El-Naggar, whose comprehensive approach aligns with modern scientific developments; and uncover the theory of Integration of Knowledge in Tafsir al-'Ilmi according to him. The research employs Syed Mohd Naquib Al-Attas's Integration of Knowledge theory to read Zaghloul El-Naggar's concept philosophically and applicatively. Using qualitative methods, primary, and secondary data analysis, the Integration of Knowledge according to Zaghloul El-Naggar is found to be based on Syed Mohd Naquib Al-Attas's cosmological principles, including tafsir and ta'wil. Muhkamat verses are understood through tafsir, while mutasyabihat verses through ta'wil. The principles of tafsir also apply to understanding natural phenomena, consisting of muhkamat (clear) and mutasyabihat (ambiguous). Al-tafsir al-'ilmi classifies clearly true scientific facts as muhkamat, while theories, hypotheses, and ongoing discoveries are classified as mutasyabihat.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parables of worldly life that are likened to water in the Qur'an. using semantic and scientific approaches. This parable, found in Surah Yunus (10:24), Al-Kahf (18:45), and Al-Hadid (57:20), conveys an essential message about the transient nature of life to prevent humans from being deceived by temporary pleasures. This research is a library study employing a descriptive-analytical method, with data collected from primary and secondary sources. The semantic approach is used to uncover the meaning of worldly life in the Qur'an, while the scientific approach examines the characteristics of water mentioned in the related verses. The findings reveal that the Qur'an highlights the similarities between worldly life and water, both being impermanent, rapidly changing, and significantly impactful when utilized properly. These similarities emphasize the temporary and dynamic nature of worldly life, urging humans to reflect upon its reality and avoid indulgence in arrogance and excessive enjoyment. Despite its findings, this study has limitations, and further research is encouraged to explore the parables of worldly life in the Qur'an with a more comprehensive semantic and scientific approach.

Abstract

Purpose - This study examines the inconsistency of the marriage age limit as regulated in the Marriage Law and PERMA Number 5 of 2019 concerning Reasons for Adjudicating Marriage Dispensation Cases. In addition, this study also analyzes the views of judges at the Mojokerto Religious Court regarding the application of marriage dispensation. It explores the dynamics of social reality that influence the practice of contemporary Islamic family law. Methods - This research is field research with an empirical juridical approach. Research is conducted by interviewing judges, lawyers, the community, and the Head of the Religious Affairs Office and analyzing laws and regulations. The analysis was carried out to identify inconsistencies in the rules for marriage age limits and marriage dispensation contained in Article 7 paragraph (2) of Law Number 16 of 2019 with PERMA Number 5 of 2019 concerning Guidelines for Adjudicating Marriage Dispensation Applications. Findings - This study concludes several findings: first, the scholars' opinions on the age limit of marriage vary, but some scholars have agreed to determine it as a means of mashlahah to answer problems in the contemporary era. Second, there are legal inconsistencies between Article 7 paragraph (2) of Law Number 16 of 2019 and PERMA Number 5 of 2019, namely the age limit for marriage and the application for marriage dispensation. Research Implications - The regulations on marriage dispensation have indeed been explained, but there is still a lack of clarity regarding the urgent reasons for applying. Therefore, detailed clarity is needed to answer these reasons so as not to cause legal disharmony and legal uncertainty.

Abstract

Establishing hadith as the second source of law after the Qur'an is a consensus among scholars. However, not everyone has held this view throughout history. One such dissenting opinion is the school of Inkarsunah, which outright rejects the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as an argument. This research aims to dissect the arguments of Inkarsunah in rejecting hadith as a source of Islamic law while addressing the doubts and objections to their arguments. The method employed is descriptive analysis with a literature approach (library research), encompassing the arguments of Inkarsunah and analyzing them through the refutations provided by scholars. The results reveal that there are similarities in the arguments presented by historical and contemporary Inkarsunah. Consequently, what was refuted by al-Shafi‘i and other scholars remains relevant for use in the present time.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze Buya Hamka’s perspective on resolving the crisis of adab (ethics) through the Qur’anic concept of hikmah. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study uses thematic content analysis to examine primary sources, particularly Hamka’s Tafsir al-Azhar, essays, and speeches, alongside relevant secondary literature. The analysis is structured through three stages: comparing various interpretations of hikmah and adab across Hamka’s works, contrasting differing emphases in context, and criticizing through a thematic coding framework that includes hikmah, adab, qalb, ‘aql, and iman. This approach enables the study to extract deeper meanings and reveal the interconnectivity of Hamka’s ethical thought. The results show that hikmah is the harmony of interconnected meanings, where the achievement of hikmah is the main goal for those who study it. Hamka proposed several ways to gain hikmah: reading and understanding the Qur'an, thinking deeply, and imitating good behavior. Hamka argues that hikmah can be a solution to overcoming the crisis of adab through strengthening the seven aspects of spiritual intelligence, namely al-ruh, al-qalb, al-nafs, al-aql, faith, worship, and adab. Spiritual intelligence has an important role in maintaining mental health, ultimately contributing to civilized individuals' formation. This study contributes to the field of Islamic thought and Living Qur’an by offering a Qur’anic-rooted philosophical framework of hikmah through the lens of Buya Hamka’s scholarship, promoting an integration between inner ethics (adab) and outer conduct in contemporary Muslim life.
