Abstract

This study aims to create Sasambo ornamental designs themed around the Mandalika Circuit as learning media for visual arts education in pre-service elementary teacher training. The research adopts an artistic creation research approach, employing three sequential stages: exploration, design, and realisation. Data were generated through visual observation, document analysis, and process documentation. The design process was guided by fundamental principles of visual arts, including proportion, rhythm, harmony, balance, emphasis, and unity. The creative outcomes consist of four ornamental works: The Mandalika Subahnale, The Mandalika Kemang Aruna, The Mandalika Piyo Merak’s, and The Mandalika Sasak’ Puppet. These works represent a reinterpretation of traditional Sasambo ornamentation—rooted in Sasak, Samawa, and Mbojo visual traditions—through the integration of the Mandalika Circuit as a contemporary visual icon. The findings demonstrate that art creation grounded in local cultural heritage and contemporary visual contexts has the potential to function as a reflective pedagogical medium that fosters visual literacy, creativity, and cultural awareness among pre-service elementary school teachers.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance and/or insufficient insulin secretion. The disease is often linked to risk factors such as obesity, lack of physical activity, and an unhealthy diet. Family support can influence the patient to make decisions in the implementation of the diet according to the previous studies; however, little is known the correlation of these variables in the local context of South Sulawesi. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and dietary adherence of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: The research design used was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study approach with quantitative research methods. Sociodemographic questionnaire, family support questionnaire, and dietary adherence questionnaire were utilized in this study. The Chi-Square test was employed to analyze the correlation between family support and dietary adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Lemeshow formula was used to determine the sample size. Results: A total of 67 respondents participated in this study. Majority of respondents had low dietary adherence, which accounted for 43 respondents (64.2%) and most respondents had good family support, consisting of 39 respondents (58.2%). According to the Chi Square test, there was a significant correlation between family support and dietary adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a p-value of 0.001. Conclusion: Family support is associated with dietary adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, health professionals need to encourage family to provide support to type 2 diabetes mellitus patients to improve the health outcome of the patients.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) requires long-term dietary management to achieve optimal glycemic control and prevent complications. However, dietary adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus remains low. Motivation is an important factor that may influence patients’ adherence to dietary recommendations. Therefore, understanding the association between motivation and dietary adherence is essential to support the development of effective interventions aimed at improving diabetes management and patient health outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the association between motivation and dietary adherence of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional approach. Lemeshow formula was used to determine the sample size.Sociodemographic questionnaire, Treatment Self-Regulation Questionnaire (TSRQ), and dietary adherence questionnaire were utilized in this study. The Chi-Square test was employed to analyze the correlation between motivation and dietary adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results: Of 67 respondents, majority of respondents had low dietary adherence, accounting for 43 respondents (64.2%) and over half respondents had good motivation, comprising 38 respondents (56.7%). Based on the Chi Square test, there was a significant association between motivation and dietary adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a p-value of 0.002. Conclusion: Motivation is associated with dietary adherence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, health professionals, especially nurses, should provide continuous motivational support and patient-centered education to encourage dietary adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
