Abstract

Blue economy is a management system for all aquatic ecosystem resources, including marine and terrestrial ecosystems, related to economic value, sustainability of ecosystems and production resources, and distribution of benefits. The adoption of this concept in Indonesia uses the term inclusive and sustainable blue economy to emphasize the equitable distribution of benefits from the development of the blue economy by ensuring the sustainability of its carrying capacity. This paper explains the importance of managing Indonesian fisheries resources based on the blue economy concept to ensure the sustainability of existing fisheries resources. The literature study method issued by agencies and strategic stakeholders is the primary reference in this study. In this study, it was found that the significant challenges faced were the problem of environmental damage due to illegal activities such as illegal fishing, damage to mangrove forests, seagrass ecosystems, coral reefs, and production activities and the fisheries industry that often pays little attention to sustainability aspects so that it is deemed necessary to implement sustainable fisheries management policies that must focus on several urgent matters to achieve Indonesia's blue economy goals. Based on this, as a role model for research purposes, recommendations and research efforts have been made with a roadmap for the sustainable use of pelagic fisheries resources based on Indonesia's blue economy program in the Bone Bay area. Sustainable fisheries management based on the blue economy concept can be developed and applied well through collaboration and synergy with all existing stakeholders consisting of the government, universities, NGOs, and fishing communities.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, which occurs due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin resistance, or both. Poor dietary adherence in type 2 DM patients increases the risk of complications and worsens quality of life. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between health worker support for the dietary adherence of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: This was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design involving 67 respondents, determined using the Lemeshow formula. Inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed with type 2 DM by a physician, aged >18 years, and willing to participate, while exclusion criteria included patients unable to communicate and pregnant or breastfeeding women. Health worker support was measured using a validated questionnaire by Rafdinal (2019) (16 items, Cronbach’s α = 0.871), and dietary adherence was assessed using the Dietary Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ) (Aklima, Kritpracha, & Thaniwattananon, 2013) consisting of 16 items (Cronbach’s α = 0.82). Data were analyzed using Chi-square. Results: The study found a significant relationship between health worker support and dietary adherence in type 2 DM patients (p = 0.004). Patients who reported high health worker support were more likely to achieve moderate to high dietary adherence (72%) compared to those with low support (38%). Conclusion: Health worker support significantly influences dietary adherence among type 2 DM patients. Strengthening structured health education, counseling, and collaboration with families is recommended to improve patient compliance and prevent long-term complications.

Abstract

Background: Individuals with diabetes have a 2–6 times higher risk of developing blood clots, which can contribute to cognitive dysfunction. Elevated blood sugar levels can lead to complications in the blood vessels, including those in the central nervous system. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between age, gender, blood sugar levels, and duration of illness with cognitive function in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Methods: This was an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional design. Results: Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between age and cognitive function in T2DM patients (p = 0.001, r = –0.859), indicating a very strong negative correlation. No significant relationship was found between gender and cognitive function (p = 0.850, r = –0.037), indicating a very weak correlation. Blood sugar levels were significantly associated with cognitive function (p = 0.001, r = –0.637), reflecting a strong negative correlation. Duration of illness was also significantly related to cognitive function (p = 0.001, r = –0.843), indicating a very strong negative correlation. Conclusion: here is a significant negative correlation between age, blood sugar levels, and duration of illness with cognitive function in T2DM patients, while gender shows no significant relationship. Further studies with additional variables, larger samples, and different methodologies are recommended to strengthen the evidence and provide more comprehensive insights.
