Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze preferences and consumption patterns of tea, specifically tea bags and loose tea, in Kulon Progo and Sleman Regencies, located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study aims to identify factors that influence consumer preferences for tea products. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the study. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. The sample was determined by purposive sampling, namely by selecting respondents who consume tea bags and loose tea. The results show that consumer preferences for purchasing tea products in Kulon Progo and Sleman Regencies are determined by the location of purchase, namely at stalls, with the majority of respondents choosing black tea with its original flavor in sachet packaging. Meanwhile, in Sleman Regency, consumers prefer large packages for loose tea. Respondents' patterns of consuming tea are generally daily, with tea purchased only once a month, served warm in the morning.

Abstract

Abstract

Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for all plants, including oil palm, and the availability of inorganic nitrogen is crucial for supporting the development of oil palm from the seedling stage. However, the fast-release characteristic of urea often leads to its loss before it can be absorbed by plants, resulting in low fertilizer efficiency. To address this issue, one approach is to combine urea with zeolite, a natural mineral with nutrient retention properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of mixing urea with zeolite in oil palm seedlings. During a three-month fertilization application in the oil palm main nursery, conventional fertilization with urea was compared with urea mixed with zeolite, both inactivated and activated, at two percentages: 20% and 40%. The addition of zeolite at various percentages and various zeolite activities produced growth similar to that of urea fertilizer without zeolite. This shows that both activated and non-activated zeolites can be utilized to reduce the amount of urea dosage used in the nursery. The adoption of zeolite at various percentages and levels of activity has the potential to improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in comparison to urea. The application of zeolite led to a significant increase in nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) values. Specifically, the addition of 40% zeolite resulted in considerable NUE values of 18.76% and 22.17% for inactivated and activated zeolite, respectively. In addition to its growth-promoting effects, the use of zeolite in combination with urea can also have cost-saving benefits. The addition of 20% and 40% inactivated zeolite could reduce the cost of nitrogen fertilizer by 27.4% and 36.6%, respectively, compared to 100% urea, making it a more economical option for oil palm plantations. Furthermore, the overall cost of NPK fertilization for three months with inactivated zeolite saved 7.54%-10.09%, while activated zeolite was 5.38%–5.77%.

Abstract

Introduction: Oil palm nurseries are crucial to oil palm farming success. Thus, precise management measures from the start, such as giving nutrients and using optimal planting material, are essential. Vermicompost and guano were tested as organic fertilizers in oil palm fields to replace chemical fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate the effect of guano and vermicompost as organic fertilizers on the growth of oil palm seedlings during the pre-nursery stage. Methods: Besides the control group, the experimental treatments included 10% vermicompost, 20% vermicompost, 10% guano, and 20% guano, each replicated five times in a completely randomized design. Results: The introduction of 10% guano resulted in a significant enhancement across key growth metrics Addition of 10% guano had 20.0% more leaves, 22.5% more stem diameter, and 62.1% more shoot dry weight than the control group. This study shows that guano, which includes 19% P2O5, can boost oil palm seedling growth. The inceptisols was already rich in nutrients, thus vermicompost had no effect on it throughout the three-month testing. Since the soil conditions were good, vermicompost did not change them during the three-month trial. The correlation matrix showed a strong and constant link between seedling shoot and root fresh and dry weights. The relationship between organic fertilizers and oil palm nursery growth highlights the importance of a well-rounded plant development profile. This highlights the complex relationship between organic fertilizers and oil palm growth. Conclusion: Guano at 10% has been shown to improve oil palm seedling growth in the nursery phase, outperforming vermicompost.
