Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a major health challenge because the infection progressively weakens the immune system by reducing CD4 cell counts and increasing the risk of opportunistic infections such as pulmonary tuberculosis. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is essential to suppress viral replication and support immune recovery. This study aims to describe the changes in CD4 counts and Viral Load in HIV/AIDS patients before and after six months of ART at Banyumas Regional Hospital. A descriptive case study approach was used, involving two male patients diagnosed with stage-3 HIV/AIDS accompanied by pulmonary TB. Data were obtained from medical records, including CD4 counts and Viral Load measurements taken before and after treatment. The results show an increase in CD4 levels in both patients. In the first case, CD4 increased from 9 cells/µL to 88 cells/µL, while in the second case, CD4 rose from 156 cells/µL to 533 cells/µL. Both patients also achieved a Viral Load of <40 copies/mL after six months of ART, indicating successful viral suppression. Overall, the findings demonstrate that ART contributed to meaningful immunological improvement and a substantial reduction in Viral Load. Consistent treatment adherence and regular monitoring remain essential to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Abstract

Bananas are a natural source of carbohydrates and potassium that are commonly consumed as an energy supply before physical activity. Their nutritional content is thought to help maintain metabolic stability during exercise, yet their influence on cardiac biomarkers and immune responses remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the effect of banana consumption on Creatine Kinase-MB (CK-MB) levels and white blood cell counts in students before and after exercise. This research employed a pre- and post-test design involving 15 randomly selected students from the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at Universitas Al-Irsyad Cilacap. Blood samples were collected before and after exercise under two conditions: without banana consumption and after consuming bananas. CK-MB levels were measured using a photometer, while leukocyte counts were analyzed using a hematology analyzer. Paired t-test results showed no significant differences in CK-MB levels before and after exercise (p > 0.05), although a slight increase in mean values was observed within physiological limits. Similarly, there was no significant difference in leukocyte counts following exercise (p > 0.05), with the effect size categorized as very small for both variables. These findings indicate that consuming bananas prior to exercise does not significantly affect cardiac biomarkers or inflammatory responses in students performing light-to-moderate physical activity. Bananas remain safe to consume before exercise and can serve as an energy source without causing notable physiological changes.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a serious, long-term condition that occurs when a person's blood glucose levels rise because the body cannot produce enough insulin. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there were approximately 20.4 million adults aged 20-79 years old with diabetes in Indonesia in 2024, and this number is expected to increase to 28.6 million by 2050. Diabetic nephropathy is a complication of diabetes mellitus that begins with microalbuminuria, which can be detected before kidney function declines, indicated by increased blood urea and creatinine levels. This study aims to determine the relationship between microalbuminuria and serum urea and creatinine levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus  Method: This research is descriptive with a cross-sectional research design using medical record data from patients participating in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) at the  Central Cilacap 1 Puskesmas in the period of April 2025. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and continued using the Spearman non-parametric correlation test. Result: The results of the study showed that the average microalbumin level was 122.9491 mg/g creatinine, the average urea level was 28.60 mg/dL and the average creatinine level was 0.91 mg/dL. The results of the Spearman correlation test showed a significant value (ρ-value) between microalbumin and urea levels of 0.003 and between microalbumin and creatinine levels of 0.003. he ρ-value of each is <0.05 Conclusion: can be concluded that there is a relationship between microalbumin levels and urea and creatinine levels in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Central Cilacap 1 Puskesmas

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible decline in kidney function that leads to the accumulation of metabolic waste products, including urea. Hemodialysis is a renal replacement therapy that functions to remove metabolic waste and maintain fluid balance in the body. Measurement of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis is important to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy. This study aimed to determine the comparison of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease at Majenang Regional General Hospital. This study was a quantitative study with an observational analytic design using secondary data obtained from medical records of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis at Majenang Regional General Hospital during June–November 2025. A total of 103 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and Paired Sample t-Test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the mean blood urea level before hemodialysis was 133.54 ± 38.13 mg/dL, with a minimum value of 29 mg/dL and a maximum value of 244 mg/dL. After hemodialysis, the mean blood urea level decreased to 46.51 ± 21.61 mg/dL, with a minimum value of 6 mg/dL and a maximum value of 102 mg/dL. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the data were normally distributed (p>0.05). The Paired Sample t-Test revealed a statistically significant difference between blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis (p=0.000). In conclusion, hemodialysis is effective in reducing blood urea levels in patients with chronic kidney disease. Measurement of blood urea levels before and after hemodialysis can be utilized as a laboratory parameter to evaluate treatment effectiveness and assist in monitoring the clinical condition of patients with chronic kidney disease..

Abstract

Burdock (Arctium lappa L.) is a medicinal plant that contains active compounds such as flavonoids, lignans, and phenolic acids, which act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and hepatoprotective substances. This study aimed to evaluate the blood biochemical profile following the administration of burdock root extract in white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study was conducted experimentally using eight male and female rats, divided into four groups: a negative control group (aquadest) and three treatment groups receiving doses of 150, 300, and 450 mg/kgBB orally for 28 days. Blood biochemical parameters were examined on day 36, including albumin, total protein, globulin, glucose, urea, amylase, cholesterol, ALT, ALP, total bilirubin, creatinine, and creatine kinase. The results showed that most biochemical parameters remained within the normal range, although significant changes were observed in some groups. Urea, amylase, and total bilirubin levels remained stable, while total protein, globulin, and ALP levels tended to be higher in female rats. Elevated glucose, cholesterol, and ALT levels in most treatment groups indicated potential disturbances in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, while increased creatinine levels in some groups suggested possible nephrotoxic effects. Administration of burdock root extract influenced the biochemical blood profile, particularly related to glucose and lipid metabolism as well as liver function. Further studies are needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and evaluate the long-term safety of burdock root extract.

Abstract

ABSTRAKDesa Kutabima memiliki potensi besar pada komoditas pala, namun pemanfaatannya masih terbatas akibat minimnya teknologi pengolahan, kapasitas sumber daya manusia, serta akses pasar. Pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan valuasi ekonomi produk atsiri pala sekaligus mendukung pengentasan kemiskinan dan mitigasi bencana longsor. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan produksi (manisan pala, sirup pala, dan minyak atsiri daun pala), workshop manajemen usaha dan pemasaran digital, serta reboisasi lahan kritis. Mitra kegiatan adalah Kelompok Tani Sri Cikawung Jaya dan BUMDes Bima Barokah Sejahtera dengan total peserta 30 orang. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pretest–posttest, observasi keterampilan, dan monitoring usaha. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman teknis peserta sebesar 80%, peningkatan kemampuan manajemen usaha sebesar 75%, serta terbentuknya tiga produk turunan pala dengan identitas branding dan legalitas usaha (NIB dan PIRT). Reboisasi menghasilkan penanaman 300 bibit pala dengan tingkat hidup 82%. Aktivitas pemasaran digital meningkat dengan kenaikan jangkauan hingga 320% dalam satu bulan. Program ini terbukti meningkatkan kapasitas produksi, memperluas peluang ekonomi lokal, dan memperkuat mitigasi bencana berbasis agroforestri. Kata kunci: pala; minyak atsiri; pemberdayaan masyarakat; UMKM; mitigasi bencana ABSTRACTKutabima Village has significant potential in nutmeg commodities; however, its utilization remains limited due to the lack of processing technology, limited human resource capacity, and restricted market access. This community service program aims to enhance the economic value of nutmeg essential oil products while supporting poverty alleviation and landslide disaster mitigation through skills improvement and institutional capacity strengthening. The implementation methods included socialization, training on the production of nutmeg preserves, nutmeg syrup, and nutmeg leaf essential oil, workshops on business management and digital marketing, as well as reforestation of critical land. The program partners were the Sri Cikawung Jaya Farmer Group and Bima Barokah Sejahtera Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), involving 30 participants. Evaluation was conducted through pretest–posttest, skills observation, and business monitoring. The results showed an 80% increase in participants’ technical understanding and a 75% improvement in business management skills. Additionally, three nutmeg-derived products were successfully developed, complete with branding identity and business legality (NIB and PIRT). Reforestation activities resulted in the planting of 300 nutmeg seedlings with an 82% survival rate. Digital marketing activity increased by 320% within one month. This program effectively improved production capacity, expanded local economic opportunities, and strengthened disaster mitigation efforts through an agroforestry-based approach. Keywords: nutmeg; essential oils; community empowerment; MSMEs; disaster mitigation.
