Abstract

This study aims to develop relevant and adaptive English for Specific Purposes (ESP) materials for students in the Hospitality Department at vocational high schools. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, expert validation sheets, tests, and documentation. The needs analysis based on the Need, Lack, and Want framework revealed that students require English proficiency for front office operations, guest relations, and handling complaints, while existing materials are still too general and not sufficiently aligned with industry demands. Students also expressed a strong preference for role play activities and the integration of digital technologies, such as AI-powered chatbots, to support authentic learning. Expert validation confirmed content feasibility with a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.92, while design and interactivity aspects received an average score of 88%. A limited product trial showed a significant improvement in students’ average scores from 62.3 to 78.5 after using the developed materials. These findings highlight that deep learning-based ESP materials can enhance relevance, effectiveness, and employability readiness of vocational hospitality students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study seeks to determine the types and frequency of tactics employed by teachers in teaching English speaking. This study focused on the English instructors in Jambi. The data was qualitatively examined. The findings revealed that the teachers employed four distinct tactics. These were enhancing student discourse, developing role play, developing narratives, and training interviews. In teaching English as a second language, role-playing was the most prevalent approach employed by teachers. Teachers determined that by implementing the developing role play technique, pupils became more active and confident when playing a role based on the materials provided by the teachers. In addition to making students more passionate about learning English, role-playing encouraged them to engage in more conversation with their classmates and peers. Keywords :Analysis, Strategy, Public Speaking

Abstract

This study discusses social edupreneurship innovation as an effort to strengthen literacy and numeracy among elementary and junior high school students in Dharmasraya Regency. The main issue addressed is the uneven development of students’ abilities in reading, understanding information, performing calculations, and applying mathematical concepts in everyday life. These conditions are influenced by limited learning resources, differences in students’ abilities, low levels of family support, and the suboptimal use of learning data in schools. To address these issues, this study proposes the concept of the Village Literacy and Numeracy Center as a community-based learning model. This program connects schools, families, village governments, volunteers, and local communities through guided reading activities, reading corners, diagnostic classes, contextual numeracy laboratories, as well as mentoring programs for teachers and parents. The uniqueness of the program lies in its use of local community life as a learning resource, such as village markets, agricultural products, folklore, and local economic activities. Through this approach, literacy and numeracy are understood not only as academic competencies but also as essential life skills. The program also emphasizes simple evaluation through student progress data, enabling teachers to adjust learning strategies according to students’ actual needs. This study highlights that strengthening basic education must be carried out collaboratively, simply, equitably, and sustainably in order to reduce learning disparities and build a strong educational culture at the village level through the active and responsible involvement of all community elements.
