Abstract

Danau Sadar Village is a village located in the sub-district of Dusun Selatan, 8 km from Buntok, the capital of South Barito Regency. This village has several potentials such as rubber plantation, livestock sector, tourism, and fisheries sector. Even though this potential is quite remarkable, the citizen welfare is still in low catagories due to the lack of skill in managing it. This condition happened because not all workers are engaged in the production process. Related to the condition of the community in Danau Sadar Village, an idea emerged to empower the community, by providing training to improve their skills. The objectives of community service in Danau Sadar Village are as follows: (1) assisting the people of Danau Sadar Village in developing economic independence; (2) improving entrepreneurial skills through the training provided. The community service program has been successful by carrying out two types of training activities to improve citizen welfare: training on biogas reactors from manure and brick making to obtain optimal products in terms of production costs and quality. The citizen in Danau Sadar Village welcomes this community service program. They hope that Palangka Raya University will carry out the community service program regularly in their village.

Abstract

This study aims to develop recitation-based teaching materials for learning qualitative analysis of cations. The procedure for developing teaching materials adopts the 4-D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Dissemination) from Thiagarajan. The development results were tested theoretically and empirically. The theoretical feasibility test was carried out using expert judgment, including chemist expert, pedagogic expert, and learning media. Empirical feasibility was tested through legibility tests and limited implementation tests. Based on the expert assessment, the recitation method based teaching materials developed in this study is content valid with individual readability of 87,86% and group readability of 89,32%. The results of testing the implementation of teaching materials in the learning process showed that recitation-based teaching materials were effective, in guiding students to do independent learning activities with an effectiveness of 84,16%. The use of Cation Qualitative Analysis teaching materials based on the recitation method in online learning is effective in increasing student understanding of qualitative analysis of cations with an N-gain value of 0,81. The students' ability to complete study assignments with the help of worksheets on teaching materials has a positive correlation, with an increase in concept understanding (r = 0,91) with a contribution value of 88,43%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan menemukan konsep dan kemampuan memahami konsep larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit dalam pembelajaran menggunakan Lembar Kerja Siswa (LKS) dengan alur berpikir induktif siswa kelas X MIA-1 SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini melibatkan 34 siswa kelas X. Data kemampuan menemukan konsep larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan instrumen LKS, sedangkan data pemahaman konsep larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit dikumpulkan menggunakan soal tes pemahaman konsep bentuk uraian objektif. Validitas isi LKS dan soal tes pemahaman konsep ditentukan berdasarkan content validity coefficient menggunakan formula Aiken’s V. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa menemukan dan memahami konsep larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa menemukan konsep tentang larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit dalam pembelajaran menggunakan LKS induktif rata-rata sebesar 91,17%. Kemampuan siswa memahami konsep tentang larutan elektrolit dan larutan nonelektrolit dalam pembelajaran menggunakan LKS induktif rata-rata sebesar 80,59% yang tergolong dalam kategori baik. Siswa yang memiliki kemampuan menemukan konsep yang lebih baik cenderung menunjukkan pemahaman konsep yang lebih baik pula.

Abstract

Pt-zeolite catalyst has been prepared by immersing a sample of zeolite in PtCl4 solution. After separation, the sample was dried and calcinated at 550 °C for 4 hours under nitrogen stream. Furthermore, the sample was oxidized with oxygen gas at 350 °C for 2 hours and reduced with hydrogen gas at 400 °C for 2 hours. Total amount of impregnated metal, acidity and surface are of the samples were determined by using atomic absorption spectrophotometric, gravimetric and gas sorption methods, respectively. The activity test was done in a fixed bed reactor and the results of the reaction were analyzed by using gas chromatograph. The result of the characterization showed that the higher total amount of impregnated metal, the lower the surface area and total volume of pores. The acidity and the catalyst activity increase with the increasing of the total amount of impregnated metal. The flow rate of feed and temperature reaction also influence yield conversion. The optimum yield of n-octanol conversion was obtained at 400 °C with the showest flow rate of n-octanol and flow rate of H2 gas was equal to 40 mL/minute.

Abstract

Synthesis of natural clay magnetite composite has been done. The composite was applicated as adsorbent of methylene blue dye in aqueous solution. natural clay was activated with acid solution, synthesis of natural clay magnetite composite was done by coprecipitation method in the molar ratio Fe2+: Fe3+ = 1 : 2 at temperature 85οC. Characterization of the synthesis results is done by XRD and FTIR. Adsorption using batch system with the optimum pH, kinetic and equilibrium aspects of adsorption were studied. The characterization results shows that iron oxide Fe3O4 (magnetite) can be composited with natural clay. The activated and natural clay magnetite composite can adsorbed methylene blue dye from aqueous solution, with the optimum adsorption at pH 3. Adsorption of those adsorbent followed the kinetic eqution of pseudo order 2 with reaction rate constant for activated and natural clay magnetite composite was 1.68 x 10-3 and 7.13 x 10-3 g/mg.minute. The isotherm adsorption is Langmuir isotherm with adsorption capacity was 1.72 x 10-4 mol/g and 1.84 x 10-4 mol/g. This kinetic reactions model shows that the natural clay magnetite composite is able to adsorbed rhodamine B in aqueous solution and accelerated separation of adsorbent from aqueous phase by external magnet field.Keywords: natural clay, magnetite, composite and adsorption.

Abstract

Clay is a natural material from crystalline silicate with layered structures, has high cation exchange capacity, and large surface area. These advantages can be used as an adsorbent for the removal of contaminants in aqueous solutions, such as heavy metals and dyes. In Indonesia, clays from Java, Sulawesi, and Sumatra islands have been used as adsorbent, furniture, and construction materials. Due to limited information about basic characteristics of clay from Kalimantan, this clay has not been utilized well. Therefore, natural clay from Kalimantan, especially in Central Kalimantan, was used as adsorbent of cationic dyes in this present study. However, the clay has difficulty for separating the solid phase from aqueous solution after adsorption process. To solve this problem, combining clay with magnetic material was opted. The objectives of this study are to synthesize the magnetic composite material from natural clay by coprecipitation method and to characterize the synthesized magnetic composite material using an x-ray diffraction method, transmission electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The adsorption properties of the synthesized magnetic composite material were evaluated using rhodamine B and methylene blue dyes in aqueous solution. Before magnetic composite material was synthesized, the clay was previously being activated for removing impurities. The magnetic material formed in the structure of clay had magnetite with particle size of 2.75 nm and the magnetization value of 24.91emu/g. The adsorption capacities of natural clay, activated clay, and magnetic composite of clay in rhodamine B were 34.29, 76.27, and 81.46 mg/g, respectively, while in methylene blue were 30.25, 83.92, and 133.90 mg/g, respectively. These results suggested that magnetic composite of clay can increase the adsorption capacities against dyes and accelerate the separation of the adsorbent solid phase from aqueous solution with largest adsorption capacity on methylene blue dye.

Abstract

Kimia memiliki beberapa jenis konsep dari segi dimensinya, salah satunya adalah keabstrakan. Sistem periodik unsur merupakan salah satu materi dalam kimia yang bersifat abstrak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penguasaan konsep siswa kelas X MIPA 7 SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 28 siswa kelas X MIPA 7 SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya tahun ajaran 2018/2019 yang sudah menerima pembelajaran sistem periodik unsur. Data penelitian ini berupa dokumen RPP yang didapat dari guru yang bersangkutan, data penguasaan konsep yang didapat melalui tes uraian sistem periodik unsur berjumlah 11 butir soal dari 3 indikator dan data hasil wawancara siswa. Data-data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profil penguasaan konsep siswa pada topik sistem periodik unsur yaitu sebesar 61,7% dan berada pada kategori sedang. Penguasaan konsep siswa terbagi kedalam 2 kategori yaitu tinggi dan sedang. Sebanyak 5 siswa berada pada kategori tinggi, dan sebanyak 23 siswa berada pada kategori sedang. Siswa mampu menjelaskan perkembangan sistem periodik unsur menurut Triade Dӧbereiner, Oktaf Newlands, Mendeleev, dan Moseley dengan penguasaan konsep sebesar 37,5% dan berada pada kategori rendah. Siswa mampu menentukan letak suatu unsur di dalam tabel periodik berdasarkan konfigurasi elektron dengan penguasaan konsep sebesar 100% dan berada pada kategori tinggi. Siswa mampu menentukan sifat periodik suatu unsur berdasarkan sifat keperiodikan unsur seperiode dengan penguasaan konsep sebesar 56,8% dan berada pada kategori sedang.

Abstract

The concept of chemical bonds is one of the subject matter of high school chemistry class X. This study aims to describe the mastery of the concept of chemical bonds in class X students of SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in 2017/2018 Academic Year. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 29 grade X students of SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya in 2017/2018 Academic Year who had received chemical bonding learning materials. The data used in this study are RPP documents obtained from the teacher concerned. Data on students' mastery of concepts was obtained through chemical bond description tests using 7 essay items covering 5 indicators. Supporting data using the results of interviews with students. Mastery of students' concepts in writing electron configurations and determining the electron valence of elements 94% with very high categories. Mastery of concepts illustrates the structure of Lewis 62% of the medium category. Mastery of concepts illustrates how an element to achieve stability of 74% in the high category. Mastery of concepts classifies the noble and non-gas elements 22% low category. Mastery of concepts explains the duplet rules and 20% octet rules in the low category. Mastery of the concept explains the process of forming 49% ion bonds in the medium category. Mastery of concepts illustrates Lewis's structure and determines the chemical formula of a single covalent bond compound of 51% of the moderate category. The mastery of the concept illustrates Lewis's structure and determines the chemical formula of 65% double covalent bonding compounds in the medium category. Mastery of concepts illustrates Lewis's structure and determines the chemical formula of 40% triple covalent bonding compounds in the low category. Mastery of the concept explains the process of forming coordination covalent bonds 29% in the low category. Mastery of the concept explains the process of forming metal bonds and explains the properties of metal-bound compounds respectively 31% and 45% in the low category.

Abstract

Atomic structure is one of the chemistry subject matter taught in high school / MA. This material was studied in class X SMA about the development of atomic theory, the basic particles making up atoms, electron configurations, and quantum numbers. This concept is the basic concept of chemistry to understand chemical bonds. This study aims to describe the profile of the mastery of the concept of Atomic Structure in class X high school students. This research is a type of descriptive study carried out in SMA Negeri 4 Palangka Raya with 30 research subjects as Grade X MIPA-1 students. The data used in this study were in the form of the chemistry teacher's lesson plan, the student's concept mastery data obtained through the description test, and student interview data. The results showed 1) an average of 62.16% were in the medium category. 2) Students can explain the development of atomic theory to show the advantages and disadvantages of each atomic theory with an average mastery of the concept of 68.75% with the medium category. 3) Students can determine the elementary particles (protons, electrons, and neutrons) of an atom based on atomic number and mass number with an average mastery of concepts of 61.47% in the medium category. 4) Students can classify elements into isotopes, isobars, and isotope with an average mastery of concepts of 88.88% with a high category. 5) Students can determine quantum numbers in the outermost electrons of an element or ion with an average mastery of concepts of 21.04% in the low category.
