This study employs mixed research method, involving forty-eight participants. To gather the data, questionnaires and interview on students’ anxiety are used as the instrument. The results of the study revealed that the students were mostly in moderate-level of anxiety. Additionally, students’ low confidence in listening process and task, difficulty to concentrate, text speed, and confusion when listening to important information were related to listeners’ characteristic theme. Both contributed to students’ anxiety in their listening performance.Another finding addressed factors which cause students’ anxiety. It can be summarized into four categories, such as teachers’ factor, students’ factors, listening material and process, and another factors. Teachers’ factor related to teachers’’ characteristic and condition. Students’ factors closely related to students’ performance in listening activity. Listening material included listening difficulty and material. Other factors included environmental factors and other situation which was not mentioned in above three factors.

Abstract

Tasks and technology are reciprocally related since the integration of technology can benefit task-based language teaching (TBLT) implementation. This study investigates students’ speaking performance, learning experiences, and perceptions in a speaking course specially designed with video recording activities involving online audiences based on the principles of TBLT. Thirty-eight undergraduate students majoring in English and enrolled in the speaking class served as the respondents. The data were collected through speaking tests, Likert scale questionnaires, and interviews. The findings indicated that the students developed their speaking performance after experiencing speaking class through a computer-assisted language learning (CALL)-mediated TBLT with video recording activities. They were also able to find their strengths and weaknesses by watching their own video recordings on YouTube. The findings also showed that the students had positive learning experiences and perceptions of video recording activities with online audiences on YouTube. Nevertheless, a further investigation of the online interactions toward the use of tasks and digital learning platforms with online audiences is highly advised.

Questionnaires with close and open-ended questions were used as the research instrument as well as interview to gain the students’ opinion while the data to identify the strategies used by the students were gathered from interview. The subject of this study was 12 students who join Basic Listening subject. The result of the study shows that the problems are related with listening materials, students’ performance, and listening equipment. Regarding the strategy, this study reveals that students applied five tactics to comprehend the listening materials better. Those strategies are: giving pause and replay, guessing unknown words, finding difficult words in the dictionary, predict the content by using background knowledge, making notes or rewrite the text.

Abstract

Despite extensive research on vocabulary acquisition, limited attention has been given to how these theories are applied in English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching practices, particularly in Indonesia. This qualitative case study addresses this gap by exploring English lecturers' perceptions and use of incidental vocabulary learning (IVL) and the involvement load hypothesis (ILH) in their classrooms. Data were collected through interviews and classroom observations with five English lecturers from universities in Malang, Indonesia, and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and themes. The findings revealed that all participants recognized the importance of vocabulary in language learning and preferred implicit learning methods, such as exposure to authentic language in literature and films. However, the integration of theoretical concepts like vocabulary size and frequency into teaching practices was limited due to constraints such as time and lack of dedicated vocabulary instruction. Moreover, participants were unfamiliar with the ILH, though some of its elements were present in their teaching. The study suggests that better dissemination of research and professional development is essential to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ultimately improving vocabulary instruction in EFL contexts.

Abstract

This community service program focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance teachers’ competence at the Aisyiyah elementary level in Mataram city. The study aims to introduce an innovative teaching and learning tool: AI-generated teaching media. These media are designed to incorporate visually appealing graphics and contextually relevant contents align with the curriculum. The development process integrates advanced AI technologies to create customized content, age-appropriate materials, culturally relevant, and pedagogically effective media. The project employs a participatory approach, involving teachers in the design and evaluation phases to ensure that the media address the learning needs and preferences of the target audience. This program employed a qualitative methodology, including observations, tutorials, and focus group discussions, to evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-generated media in improving teachers’ competence. Data were analyzed to determine how this innovative approach impacts teaching practices and learning outcomes. This initiative aligns with broader educational goals to incorporate technology as 21st century skills among young learners, and as ongoing attempts to make AI more engaging and accessible in Indonesia. This study is expected to be a replicable model, to demonstrate the potential of AI to revolutionize education, and to inform how innovative tools can transform traditional learning experiences.
