Abstract

Oral drug absorption was highly influenced by dissolution rate, especially for poorly and insoluble drugs. Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is practically insoluble in water. The oral absorption rate of piroxicam is dependent on its dissolution rate in the GI tract. Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP) as surfactant can increase drug solubility by means of a micelle forming mechanism. The aim of the study was to know the influence of addition and variation of Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP) on Piroxicam absorption with everted intestinal sac method.  The  concentration of piroxicam solution was prepared by PVP in  1.0,2.0 and 3.0 % respectively. Crane and Wilson tube containing 75 ml of themucosal fluid was taken at 37 0 C in waterbath. Than, serosal solution of 1.5 mlwas added to intestinal sac by turned upside down and tied to a cannula, then put into the tube containing the mucosal fluid and constantly flowing oxygen gas.Serosal solution of 1 ml were taken every 15 minutes and then diluted with 2 ml of Ba (OH) 2 and 2 ml of ZnSO4 then centrifuge until 25 minute. The absorbant of supernatant was measured by UV spectrophotometer and data analyse wascalculated by one-way ANAVA.  PVP at 1%,2% and 3% increased piroxicamabsorption from the phosphate buffer pH 7.5 compared with negative control.According to P app , the values were 2.52 ± 0.43 cm/minute (negative control), 3.41 ± 2.17 cm/minute (1% PVP), 2.75 ± 1.14 cm/minute (2% PVP) and 4.77 ± 4.93 cm/minute (3% PVP) respectively. In conclusion. Lower doses of the surfactant (1%, 2%, and 3% PVP) significantly increased absorption of the drug by altering the membrane permeability. Abstract

Anak-anak termasuk ke dalam kelompok usia yang sangat rentan terhadap penularan COVID-19 dari lingkungan sekitarnya. SDIT Insan Mulia Surakarta merupakan sekolah yang berada di zona merah dan sedang mempersiapkan kegitan tatap muka. Pengetahuan tentang Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) merupakan prioritas yang harus diberikan dan difahamkan kepada siswa agar dapat menjadi salah satu upaya perlindungan siswa dari COVID-19. Selain itu, edukasi tentang obat sejak dini perlu dilakukan agar nantinya tidak timbul permasalahan dalam penggunaan obat. Kegiatan pengabdian berupa edukasi dengan media handout dan buku ajar berbasis aktivitas dilakukan sebagai salah satu upaya peningkatan pengetahuan siswa. Sasaran kegiatan adalah siswa kelas 3 di SDIT Insan Mulia Surakarta pada bulan April 2021. Dalam memahami materi edukasi, siswa dipandu melalui pertemuan virtual dengan platform zoom meetings. Evaluasi keberhasilan program dilakukan melalui penilaian pengetahuan dengan pretes dan postes. Perbedaan nilai pretest dan postest dianalisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon. Pada akhir rangkaian kegiatan hanya ada 37 siswa yang mengisi postes dengan lengkap. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan pengetahuan yang signifikan sebelum dan sesudah edukasi menggunakan buku ajar berbasis aktivitas dengan nilai p=0,047. Akan tetapi, tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada pengetahuan siswa yang diberikan edukasi melalui media handout dan buku ajar berbasis aktivitas ( p=0,777.; p0,05). Media edukasi buku ajar berbasis aktivitas lebih tepat digunakan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa sekolah dasar. Kendala yang dialami selama kegiatan adalah jaringan internet dan fasilitas yang dimiliki siswa. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini telah berjalan dengan lancar  dan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa tentang obat dan PHBS. Melalui media edukasi yang telah disusun oleh tim pengabdian, diharapkan edukasi tentang obat dan PHBS terhadap siswa dapat terus dilakukan secara berkala.

Abstract

Sebagian besar masyarakat di Desa Bandar menanam empon-empon seperti kunyit, jahe dan temu-temuan sebagai komoditas utama. Namun penjualannya selama ini langsung ke tengkulak tanpa pengolahan pasca panen. Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat dari Tim Pusat Penelitian Lingkungan Hidup Universitas Sebelas Maret (PPLH UNS) dengan Mitra Kelompok Petani Suroloyo I ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai jual produk empon-empon dengan optimalisasi pengolahan pasca panen.  Mitra Kelompok Tani Suroloyo I memiliki permasalahan diantaranya: 1) ketergantungan tengkulak untuk penjualan produk curahnya; 2) belum memiliki teknologi pasca panen; dan 3) tidak ada manajemen usaha yang benar. Solusi yang ditawarkan dalam kegiatan ini  adalah pengolahan pasca panen yaitu optimalisasi pembuatan rajangan empon-empon dengan menggunakan alat perajang dan pengering. Kegiatan yang telah dilaksanakan adalah sosialisasi kegiatan pengabdian, pelatihan dan penerapan penggunaan mesin perajang dan pengering, serta evaluasi kegiatan.  Terdapat peningkatan pendapatan petani sebesar yang cukup signifikan melalui pengolahan produk  menjadi rajangan kering dari pada langsung dijual dalam kondisi basah.Kata Kunci: empon-empon, kelompok tani, rajangan, teknologi pasca panenAbstract Most of the people in Bandar Village grow empon-empon such as turmeric, ginger and temu-finds as their main commodities. However, sales so far have been direct to middlemen without post-harvest processing. The Community Service Program of  Universtas Sebelas Maret Environmental Research Center Team (PPLH UNS) with Suroloyo I Farmer Group Partners aims to increase the sale value of empon-empon products by optimizing post-harvest processing. Suroloyo I Farmers Group Partners have problems including: 1) dependence of middlemen for the sale of their bulk products; 2) do not have post harvest technology; and 3) there is no proper business management. The solution offered in this activity is post-harvest processing, namely optimizing the making of empon-empon slices using a chopper and dryer. Activities that have been carried out are socialization of community service activities, training and application of the use of chopper and dryer machines, and evaluation of activities. There is a significant increase in farmers' income through processing the product into dry chunks instead of selling it directly in wet conditions.Keywords: empon-empon, farmer groups, chopped, post harvest technology

Abstract

Soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.) chloroform extract has an anticancer agent that can be developed for traditional medicine preparation, even though the extract's solubility is low in the water. This study aims to generate new soursop leaves chloroform extract in the Self-Nano Emulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS). The expected result is that the solubility increases so that the drug delivery system is more effective. The extraction process of soursop leaves uses the percolation method with chloroform as a solvent. It used tween 80 and cremophore E.L. as surfactant, propylene glycol as a cosurfactant, and candlenut oil as a carrier, to make the SNEDDS formulation. Then performed a comparison between the optimal parameters for the physical properties of the SNEDDS formulation with the predictive Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) formulation with the students' t-test statistical analysis [p> 0.05]. Then carried out several tests such as loading dosage extractability, accelerated stability test, particle size, and zeta potential. Furthermore, the antioxidant test was carried out using the DPPH reagent. The optimum composition of candlenut oil, propylene glycol, a mixture of tween 80, and cremophor E.L. based on SLD is 12%: 22%: 66%, respectively. The SNEDDS optimum formulation for chloroform extract of soursop leaves produces a stable nanoemulsion, homogenous. It has a transmittance value of 90.58% ± 0.151, emulsification time of 59.44 ± 1.763 seconds, and a value of separation phase 1. The physical formulation test results showed no significant difference between observations with predictive design expert software. SNEDDS can produce 25.0 mg of soursop chloroform extract with particle size 411.4 nm, polydispersion index 0.482, and zeta potential 34.2 mV. IC50 value in 36.28 ppm indicated the antioxidant potential of the SNEDDS formulation for chloroform extract of soursop leaves is high.

Abstract

The Covid-19 infection has spread to almost all regions of Indonesia. The government has issued a health protocol policy for the public in carrying out their activities to minimize the transmission of covid-19. This study aimed to obtain an overview of public compliance behavior in implementing health protocols as an effort to prevent Covid-19. The questionnaire survey was conducted at one of the pharmacies in the Banjarsari area of Surakarta for the period 14-30 September 2020. The research subjects were determined by purposive sampling method. The questionnaire contains 16 statement items covering the domain of social distancing, use of masks, maintaining hygiene and hand washing, and cough etiquette. Respondent behavior was classified into 2 categories, namely compliance and noncompliance. Respondent characteristic data (gender, age, and occupation) were tested for their relationship with compliance behavior. This study involved 54 respondents who were dominated by women (68.52%), age range 36- 45 years (37.18%), and work as private employees (37.04%). A study on 54 respondents showed that 51.85% of respondents had complied with the implementation of health protocols. Community non-compliance was still high in the domain of maintaining hygiene and cough etiquette. Gender, age, and occupation were not significantly related to respondent behavior.

Abstract

Soursop leaf chloroform extract has anticancer activity.  The active ingredient of soursop leaf was acetogenin polypoid derivatives that have a lipophilic characteristic, and less effective to achieve action targets of drugs in biological systems. The Self-Micro Emulsifying Drug Delivery System (SMEDDS) was an effective drug delivery technique that increases the solubility of lipophilic drugs. This study aims to determine the proportion of optimum SMEDDS formula using Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method. The Formula of SMEDDS was prepared using a combination of Tween 80-Croduret, Propylene Glycol, and Candlenut oil. Optimization formula with SLD method using Design-Expert software based on physical stability parameters there are the percent of transmittance and emulsification time. The optimum formula of SMEDDS was compared with SLD prediction formula using a statistical analysis t-test, then test of loading dose extract, stability test accelerated by centrifugation, particle size, and zeta potential. The proportion of optimum composition of Tween 80-Croduret, Propylene Glycol, and Candlenut oil of SMEDDS was 60.87%; 24.13%; 15.00% respectively. Results of transmittance 41.14±3.78% and emulsification time 119.0±2.08 seconds. The predicted SLD value for the transmittance percent was 55.0% and the emulsification time was 119.59 seconds. The result of the statistical analysis of one sample t-test showed no significant difference between observation results and SLD prediction. The SMEDDS system has F value of 0.99 and capable to load 25.0 mg chloroform extract of soursop leaf each system with an average particle size of 440 nm and zeta potential of +21.5 mV.

Abstract

Parijoto (Medinilla speciosa Reinw. Ex. Bl.) is a medicinal plant with cytotoxic effects on cancer cells in vitro. As only a limited number of studies have reported the effect of parijoto on colon cancer cells, this study initially aimed to measure the total flavonoid levels and potential cytotoxic effects of parijoto methanol extract (PME) through cell viability assays and expression of the apoptotic protein on WiDr colon cancer cells as a model. PME cytotoxic activity was determined by conducting a cytotoxicity test on WiDr colon cancer cells using the MTT assay. The synergistic cytotoxic effects of the PME and cisplatin were tested to obtain the combination index (CI) value. Apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry, and the apoptotic protein expression was observed by immunocytochemical tests. Furthermore, quercetin as a major flavonoid in PME was measured using a UV–Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that PME had a moderate cytotoxic activity with an IC50 of 198.64±1.6 µg/mL, whereas the IC50 of cisplatin was 2.34±0.7 µg/mL. The PME with cisplatin combination test showed a strong synergistic effect with a CI value of <1 (0.1‐0.4). The combination showed increased apoptosis properties compared to PME treatment alone. In addition, immunocytochemistry showed that PME alone or in combination with cisplatin increased the pro‐apoptosis proteins (p53 and caspase‐9) and suppressed Bcl‐2 expression. Moreover, the cell viability value increased as the PME concentration decreased. The administration of PME led to changes in cell morphology, lower cell density, and a decreasing number of living cells. Therefore, the combination of PME and cisplatin had a strong synergistic effect in inducing apoptosis.

Abstract

Serbuk kering spirulina yang berasal dari Spirulina platensis memiliki banyak kandungan bahan aktif yang memiliki kemampuan untuk meningkatkan sistem kekebalan tubuh melalui mekanisme antioksidan, antiinflamasi dan neuro protective. Selama ini untuk memenuhi kebutuhan sebagai bahan obat tradisional dan kosmetik, spirulina merupakan salah satu bahan baku obat impor, karena produksinya masih jarang ada di Indonesia. Berada di Kecamatan Tawangsari, Kabupaten Sukoharjo terdapat usaha produksi spirulina dibawah pengelolaan UKM Neoalgae. Namun pengolahan hasil produksi masih berupa serbuk spirulina. Dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini akan dilakukan pengembangan usaha spirulina menjadi produk healing oil yang bermanfaat sebagai cairan obat luar untuk mengatasi jerawat, bisul dan penyakit kulit lainnya. Metode kegiatan berawal dari sosialisasi program, pelatihan produksi dan pembukuan keuangan kepada karyawan di kedua UKM serta pendaftaran produk untuk memperoleh ijin edar. Bekerjasama dengan UKM Andromeda, formulasi dan produksi healing oil ini dilakukan dengan memberdayakan masyarakat sekitar. Hasil yang diperoleh berupa produk healing oil berbahan spirulina yang sedang dalam proses pengurusan ijin edar di BPOM. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan untuk membuat sediaan healing oil dengan menggunakan bahan spirulina telah dijalankan dengan baik. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan alternatif usaha perekonomian baru di masyarakat.

Abstract

Suroloyo Farmer Group I Bandar Village, Pacitan has been able to distill turmeric essential oil. So far, the turmeric essential oil produced is sold to essential oil suppliers. However, the benefits obtained are not commensurate with the energy and time spent. This activity aims to develop diversification of products made from turmeric essential oil into aromatherapy oil products that have high added value. This activity was divided into two stages, the first stage was training on the formulation of aromatherapy topical oil containing turmeric essential oil which was carried out at the Suroloyo Farmer Group I, Bandar Village, Pacitan. The second stage is the manufacture of aromatherapy topical oil containing turmeric essential oil in the Small Traditional Medicine Business CV. PJ. Ching Lung, Sukoharjo. This activity produces aromatherapy products containing turmeric essential oil. Turmeric essential oil is then formulated with fennel oil, eucalyptus oil and Lawang oil to become an aromatherapy topical oil product, which is packaged in a 10 ml roll-on dark glass bottle and labeled with the Ellevacare Oil® brand. This product has been registered for a distribution permit with the POM Agency and obtained a distribution permit number, namely TR213678301. This aromatherapy oil product is sold at a price of Rp. 15,000/bottle. The diversification of turmeric essential oil products can become a new business commodity in the Suroloyo Farmer Group I and increase production capacity at CV PJ Ching Lung. Coordination of the two partners is carried out on an ongoing basis based on the needs of the community which can be directly felt by the benefits.
