Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the analysis of science process skills in textbooks of chemistry grade XI in SMA N 1 Teras, Boyolali. This research used the descriptive method. The instruments were developed based on 10 indicators of science process skills (observing, classifying, finding a conclusion, predicting, raising the question, hypothesizing, planning an experiment, manipulating materials, and equipment, Applying, and communicating). We analyzed 3 different chemistry textbooks that often used by teachers in teaching. The material analyzed in the book was solubility and solubility product concept in terms of concept explanation and student activity. The results of this research showed different science process skill criteria in 3 different chemistry textbooks. Book A appeared 50% of all aspects of science process skills, in Book B appeared 80% of all aspects of science process skills, and in Book C there was 40% of all aspects of the science process skills. The most common indicator in all books was observing (33.3%), followed by prediction (19.05%), classifying (11.90%), Applying (11.90% ), planning experiments (9.52%), manipulating materials and equipment (7.14%), finding conclusion (4.76%), communicating (2.38%). Asking the question and hypothesizing did not appear in textbooks.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the discipline of the Bachelor of Science Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Sebelas Maret (BSESP FTTE UNS) as a learning organization in maintaining performance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses a post-positivism approach with qualitative methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with several informants. Based on the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that the BSESP FTTE UNS maintains performance as a learning organization during the COVID-19 pandemic through five disciplines according to Peter Senge, namely: 1) System Thinking, maintaining the commitment of organizational members in maintaining the sustainability of the organizational work system through the leadership of the head of the study program; 2) Personal Mastery, providing opportunities for each member of the organization to participate in activities to improve their competence; 3) Mental Models, providing appeals, and the right decisions in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic; 4) Shared Vision, having a shared vision and ultimate goal that is still realized in learning, research, and community service activities, even though they have to adapt to changes; and 5) Team Learning, maintaining the Research Group to keep running even though it has to adapt to limitations

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the ethnoscience-based Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) model using aromatherapy incense in improving students’ written communication skills on elements, compounds, and mixtures. This study employed a quasiexperimental method with a pretest–posttest nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of class VIII A as the experimental group and class VIII B as the control group at SMP N 6 Surakarta, selected using cluster random sampling. The research instrument was an experimental report assessment rubric that had undergone content validity testing. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, an Independent Sample t-test, and effect size analysis. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The experimental class achieved higher written communication skills than the control class, with a large effect size (d = 0.747). Improvements were observed in effective introduction, main objectives and ideas, report clear, structured and coherent, appropriate technical language, and grammar. It can be concluded that the ethnoscience-based TAPPS model effectively improves students’ written communication skills.
