Abstract

The theft of fish resources in the Indonesian sea has caused huge losses to the fisheries sector in order to realize the welfare of the community. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries adopted a strict policy to eradicate illegal fishing through the act of sinking illegal fishing vessels. The magnitude of Indonesia's marine and fisheries wealth cannot be utilized optimally. Law enforcement is very important to deal with violations of law in Indonesian waters. One form of law enforcement is to implement policies such as sinking foreign vessels that steal fish in Indonesian waters while taking into account the efficiency and effect of deterrent effect on perpetrators of fish theft. The sinking policy of foreign fish-stealing vessels in Indonesian waters was pursued to secure the sea from looting by foreign parties. This policy will continue even though it could risk creating friction with the countries of origin of the foreign ship. Based on economic analysts on illegal fishing crimes, criminal fines can be used as an alternative to criminal punishment in addition to imprisonment in order to minimize operational costs of law enforcement.

Abstract

21st-century learning presents chemistry teachers with new challenges in teaching abstract chemistry concepts with various technologies that continue to develop. One of the media that can visualize abstract chemical concepts is Augmented Reality (AR). AR media developed in chemistry learning needs to be valid so that it can be used properly. Therefore, this study aims to examine the validity of the Android-based AR media developed. Four education practitioners carried out the validation as experts, and 13 students participated as respondents. The instrument used is a questionnaire with a Likert scale. The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively with the Rasch model using the facet software. The results of the analysis show that the Exact Agreements are 41.10%, and the Expected Agreements are 42.20%. The most challenging aspect to achieve is media design, while profit is the most easily agreed-upon aspect. Based on this assessment, in the development of augmented reality media, it is necessary to pay attention to display aspects and 3D objects suitable for viewing a material so that it is easier for users to understand the material.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a vital skill for success in higher education and the workforce. However, it is often inadequately emphasized in high school curricula, resulting in students lacking proficiency. Guided discovery-based modules provide a promising approach to enhancing critical thinking by fostering independent exploration and concept discovery. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a developed module in improving thermodynamics-related critical thinking skills among 10th-grade students in Boyolali Regency, Indonesia. Five schools were randomly selected, with two classes from each forming control and experimental groups. The experimental group utilized the developed module, while the control group used traditional textbooks. Validated by experts, a test was administered to evaluate students' critical thinking skills, and statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The developed module demonstrated superior efficacy in enhancing critical thinking skills compared to traditional textbooks. Variations in mean scores among the schools suggest the need for further investigation across diverse educational contexts. The study's outcomes have implications for teaching and learning in Indonesia and other countries where critical thinking is insufficiently emphasized in high school curricula. Ethical considerations were upheld, ensuring participant rights and confidentiality. Future research can explore the module's effectiveness in improving critical thinking across different subjects and educational settings
