Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of breathing exercises on stress, anxiety, and depression levels among adolescents. The method used was quantitative with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of five adolescent participants aged 15–19 years, selected using purposive sampling based on specific inclusion criteria. The intervention involved diaphragmatic breathing exercises conducted twice daily over seven consecutive days. The research instrument used was the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21), administered before and after the intervention. In addition, participants were asked to write daily reflections regarding their experiences during the breathing sessions. The results showed a decrease in depression and anxiety scores among some participants, especially those with moderate to severe symptoms who practiced consistently. Conversely, stress scores tended to increase in participants who were less consistent. The conclusion of this study is that breathing exercises can serve as a simple intervention with positive impacts on adolescent mental health, particularly in reducing depressive symptoms. It is recommended that breathing practices be incorporated into school-based mental health promotion programs. This study contributes to the growing body of non-pharmacological approaches utilizing breath regulation to enhance adolescent psychological well-being.

Abstract

Penyuluhan kesehatan mengenai Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) merupakan upaya penting dalam membentuk kebiasaan hidup sehat sejak usia dini. Salah satu aspek utama dari PHBS adalah praktik mencuci tangan yang baik dan benar. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan di Desa Kedungwaru Kabupaten Tulungagung pada Bulan November Tahun 2024. Media yang digunakan dengan pemaparan materi tentang cuci tangan, menampilkan video edukasi, serta demonstrasi mengunakan games dan diberikan konseling kepada anak-anak dan diberikan poster. Pemaparan 7 Langkah Mencuci Tangan kegiatan diawali dengan perkenalan anggota, anggota kelompok memperkenalkan dirinya masing-masing kepada murid Paud Anak Bangsa, Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan anak usia 3–4 tahun dalam melakukan cuci tangan sesuai dengan langkah-langkah yang tepat. Melalui pendekatan edukatif yang interaktif dan metode pembelajaran yang disesuaikan dengan perkembangan usia dini, anak-anak diajarkan tujuh langkah mencuci tangan menggunakan sabun dan air mengalir. Hasil penyuluhan menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak dapat memahami dan mempraktikkan kebiasaan mencuci tangan dengan benar, sehingga diharapkan dapat menurunkan risiko infeksi penyakit dan meningkatkan derajat kesehatan mereka. Penyuluhan ini menegaskan pentingnya pendidikan kesehatan sejak dini dalam membangun perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat yang berkelanjutan.  Kata Kunci: PHBS, Cuci tangan, Anak Usia Dini, Pendidikan Kesehatan   Abstract Health counseling on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important effort in forming healthy living habits from an early age. One of the main aspects of PHBS is the practice of washing hands properly and correctly. This community service program was carried out in Kedungwaru Village, Tulungagung Regency in November 2024. The media used were the presentation of material on washing hands, showing educational videos, and demonstrations using games and counseling was given to children and posters were given. The presentation of the Seven Steps to Washing Hands activity began with the introduction of members, group members introduced themselves to the students of Paud Anak Bangsa, This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of children aged 3-4 years in washing their hands according to the correct steps. Through an interactive educational approach and learning methods that are adapted to early age development, children are taught the seven steps of washing hands using soap and running water. The results of the counseling show that children can understand and practice the habit of washing their hands properly, so that it is expected to reduce the risk of disease infection and improve their health. This counseling emphasizes the importance of early health education in building sustainable clean and healthy living behavior.  Keywords: PHBS, Hand washing, Early Childhood, Health Education

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that cannot be cured and requires lifelong treatment, therefore assistance or support from the family will help clients in improving diabetes mellitus control management. This research aims to determine the correlation between family empowerment and Self-Management in patients with a history of type II diabetes mellitus in Tulungagung Regency. This research was quantitative research with a cross-sectional survey method. The research instrument used the Family Empowerment Scale (FES) and The Diabetes Self-Management (DSMQ) questionnaire to determine self-management. The sampling method was carried out using a purposive technique, resulting in a sample size of 320 respondents. The independent variable was family empowerment (X) while the dependent variable was Self-Management (Y). Based on the Spearman rho test results, the ρ value = 0.000 < 0.05, meaning that there was a relationship between family empowerment and Self-Management in patients with a history of type II diabetes mellitus in Tulungagung Regency. With a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.7, it can be concluded that the strength of the relationship is strong. The direction of the relationship is linear (+), which means that the better the level of family empowerment obtained by DM sufferers, the better the level of Self-Management possessed by the respondent. Based on these results, can be used as consideration for related parties to improve the Self-Management of DM sufferers through providing family empowerment.   Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus; Family-Empowerment; Self-Management

Abstract

The elderly group has very complex health problems, both physiological and psychological. Health problems experienced by the elderly include a gradual decline in physical and psychological function, which can cause stress. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of SHG therapy on stress levels in the elderly in Campurdarat Village. This research was a quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test with a control group design. The population in this study were all elderly people in the Campurdarat District Area The independent research variable is SHG therapy and the dependent variable is stress level. Analysis test was carried out using Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results show that SHG therapy affects stress levels in the elderly, it obtained a significance value (p-value) of 0,000<0.05. This is proven by a decrease in stress levels before and after being given SHG therapy in the intervention group. Keywords: Elderly; SHG; Stress.

Abstract

Background: Emergency conditions necessitate prompt and appropriate management to mitigate the risks of disability and mortality. A fundamental component of emergency care is triage, which serves to prioritise patient treatment based on the severity of their condition and guide the necessary clinical interventions. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of peer-led health education supported by audio-visual media in improving students’ comprehension of emergency triage procedures.Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was implemented. The research population comprised second-semester nursing students from STIKES Hutama Abdi Husada Tulungagung. A purposive sampling method was used to select 41 participants. The educational intervention was delivered through peer-led sessions and supplemented with audio-visual media. Data were gathered using a validated structured questionnaire and analysed employing the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test.Results: Analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a statistically significant result (p = 0.000) in both intervention groups, demonstrating that the health education provided had a meaningful impact on students’ understanding of emergency triage. Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney U test indicated a mean rank of 35.43 for participants in the peer education group and 47.57 for those in the audio-visual group, with a significance level of p = 0.019. Conclusion: The findings confirm that both peer-led and audio-visual-based health education methods are effective in increasing nursing students’ knowledge of emergency triage. Nevertheless, the audio-visual approach demonstrated superior outcomes and is, therefore, recommended as the preferred strategy for enhancing triage competency in educational settings.

Abstract

Positive thinking is an individual's ability to see opportunities and solutions in difficult situations, which can enhance self-efficacy or confidence in one's abilities. For out-of-town students, this skill becomes crucial in facing academic and daily life challenges, especially in preparing to enter the workforce. High self-efficacy enables out-of-town students to face the demands of the job market with greater confidence and productivity. This study aims to examine the relationship between positive thinking and self-efficacy among out-of-town students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in facing the workforce. The research subjects consisted of 100 out-of-town students, including 65 males and 35 females, aged 18-24 years. Data collection was conducted using research scales distributed through online surveys via Google Forms and social media. The data were analyzed using classical assumption tests and hypothesis testing. The results showed a significance value of 0.000, indicating a positive relationship between positive thinking and self-efficacy. However, the data did not meet the normality and linearity tests, requiring cautious interpretation of the findings. These results highlight the importance of positive thinking in enhancing the self-efficacy of out-of-town students, contributing to their readiness to face the workforce. This study recommends the development of programs to promote positive thinking as a strategy to strengthen the self-efficacy of out-of-town students. Future research is expected to address the limitations of classical assumption tests to produce more valid and generalizable findings.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) adalah penyakit kronis yang memerlukan pengelolaan self-care yang baik untuk mencegah komplikasi dan meningkatkan kualitas hidup. Dukungan keluarga menjadi faktor penting dalam keberhasilan perawatan mandiri. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross sectional pada 33 responden keluarga penderita DM di Desa Bangoan, Tulungagung, dengan teknik total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS) dan Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) yang telah dimodifikasi. Analisis dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat. Diskusi: sebagian besar responden memiliki dukungan keluarga tinggi (72,7%) dan kualitas hidup tinggi (57,6%). Dukungan emosional dan penghargaan tinggi ditemukan pada semua responden. Terdapat hubungan signifikan antara dukungan keluarga dan kualitas hidup, di mana dukungan tinggi berasosiasi dengan kualitas hidup tinggi. Kesimpulan: Dukungan keluarga yang optimal berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kepatuhan self-care dan kualitas hidup penderita DM. Intervensi keluarga dan edukasi berkelanjutan diperlukan untuk memaksimalkan hasil perawatan. Kata Kunci: Diabetes mellitus, dukungan keluarga, kualitas hidup, self-care
